I'll start off with hi, I'm StarryDay(or just Starry), and I'm new here. lol Honestly I'm not a nut about pokemon, but I enjoy the games and have always fantasized about making my own. Which is why I'm here. =) This is my idea for a game. Let me know what you think, and if it's workable. I'm not planning on making a huge game makeover because I'm still a novice at this. But I'm hoping to make an enjoyable hack for all of you.

This game would be based off of Pokemon Ruby, and takes place in the Peppest region, a collection of small islands inhabited by Pokemon and their trainers. You play as an young trainer who has lived their life around Pokemon, and can't wait to go out on their own adventure. Finally the day has come, and you go to Professor Hoover's lab, conveniently located in your town.

This is where I'm trying to decide whether to go with 'real' Pokemon or create a few of my own for the game. Opinions there are welcome. If I am to go with already made Pokemon, the three starters will be Cyndaquil, Squirtle, and Treecko(not sure if I spelled that one right). Basically my favorite of each starter type from the first three generations. X)

Anyway, no matter which option I end up going with, Professor Hoover is out doing field work, so you go to find him(because I think completely changing the beginning of Ruby would be too difficult for me), and find him being chased by a wild Pokemon. I'm assuming you know what happens from that point until you get back to the lab. He is perfectly happy giving you the Pokemon you used to save him, but he asks another favor of you - to help him with his research. Seeing your natural talent with Pokemon, he expects that you'd be a good lab assistant. He gives you a Pokedex to complete, and then explains to you that there are many Pokemon in the world that are considered Legendary. Since not much is known about them, he wants to be able to do more research on them. Your main goal in the game is to find and catch every legendary Pokemon from all three generations.

Ideally, there would be different sub-plots related to the Legendaries, for example:

Legendary Bird Trio - While exploring the mountains of Peppest, you find nests at each of the peaks, each containing a different egg. Later on, you get word from Professor Hoover saying that Team Triad has invaded the mountains, and you find that the eggs are gone. From there you have to defeat Team Triad, and once defeating the boss, you find the three birds caged up. After freeing them, Moltres and Zapdos flee but Articuno lingers. Professor Hoover walks up and says that Articuno seems to like you, and it's added to your team. The other two birds can be obtained by defeating them when they randomly appear in the mountains.

During the course of the game, Team Triad is attempting to turn Pokemon into their slaves by harnessing the combined powers of the Legendary Trios. The final battle with them is to free the Regi's, at which point they realize that their plan's not going to work and they leave Peppest.

Of course there's the badges sub-plot as well, and after defeating the Champion you are allowed onto the secret island(as of yet unnamed as well) where there's a 1/25 chance of finding a shiny Pokemon.

So, I'm sure I can't do this alone, being new to this and all, so if anyone thinks there's a chance of making something of this idea, please feel free to offer your help and guidance. I'm currently working on the maps for the region, and was wondering if there was a tool for changing pokemon sprites, or just how to change sprites using hex editing if there's no tool.

Um... I think that's it. An suggestions and critique are welcome, this is only one of my ideas for a Pokemon game, and hopefully at least one of them are reasonably interesting.

Thanks for any and all advice/comments.

Oh, sorry. It's a hack of Ruby. =) I'm still figuring things out and reading up, but if you're willing to help, I'll let you know as soon as I need something. Thank you very much.
