People say that the Pokemon world is geographicaly based off Japan. They say that there are 9 basic regions in Japan and the Pokemon regions are based off of them. What if the make games with two regions. Then use up all the regions. what will they base it off next, another Asian country like Russia, China, Mongolia, India, Saudia Arabia? I hope they don't use up Japan and quit the Pokemon series!!!

Whoa, hold on there! They still have a pretty long way to go if that's the case. This would be region 4/9, and considering the giant generation gaps, I'd say we have a really long time to wait before we have to worry about GameFreak running out of regions. I'm more worried about GameFreak running out of ideas for new Pokemon.

But there stating to make the games a little bigger. I know its a long way off but eventually the'll use up Japan. and it is possible that a nother region could be in this game because in real life the area that shinou is based off of is connected to other parts of Japan by caves. I bet there will only be one region but its a possibility. I hope they dont close this thread...I haven't seen any other thread discussing Pokemon Geography.

    Interesting thought…
Let's take a look at our current worlds:

Kanto is based off of a real region in Japan called Kantō
Johto is based off of Kansai
Hoenn is based off of Kyushu
Shinou is based off of Hokkaido
The Sevii Islands are based off of the Bonin Islands, off the coast of Tokyo

And Orre, from Colosseum and XD, is actually based off a region from Arizona (lol).

If you take a map of Japan and mark all the areas that have been done, there's still a lot of areas to cover. Plus, a new world of Pokémon only appears everytime Nintendo releases a new gaming platform, which happens once every 3 years at the current rate. So it'll be at least another decade and a half until they run out of Japan, and there's still a ton of little islands (Japan is composed of over 3,000 islands, you know)

Well, if they run out of places in Japan, Ash and co can always cross the pond to a region like the US...

but that'd be a zillion episodes if every US state counted as a league...

    ......HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Oh that is hilarious!

Ahh...I was thinking about this earlier, oddly enough, and I came to the conclusion that they'll go to China next, and that's enough landmass to take Pokemon for many years more.

If every US state counted as a league; 50 states times roughly 80 episodes to get through a league equals 4000 episodes!

There are still 4 regions left which would make another 10 years... :P But anyway, Orre proves that they are looking on other countries than Japan as well. Japan IS a suitable courty from Pokemon of course, having sea and almost every kind of places but there are other counrties that could fullfill that as well. (like Greece, hell yeah! xD) By the way, this is a Japanese map colored accordingly the regions. It's from WikiPedia.
