Well, I've been trying to get this rolling, reading through tutorials and watching tutorials and tutorialing tutorials.

Well, truth be told, I was always more of an idea kind of guy than a game creator, but I'm confident that with realistic goals for my first project, I'll be able to accomplish something. This thread will be used as a mark to signify where I started should I end.

This game utilizes Pokemon Essentials as well as RPGMaker XP

    The Introduction

The game has two selectable characters you can start with, the more gentle Psychic Boy Morpheus or the more rebellious, rowdy Undina Tribe Girl Diana. These two characters have different starting points and hometowns they will eventually revisit.

(Naturally, these characters can be named, these are just 'default' or 'official' names.) These two have seperate starters to go with. Morpheus starts with Staryu and Darumaka while Diana starts with Tynamo and Inkay. To make up for fixed starters, you get to catch a wide array of Pokemon on the way.

Morpheus' goal is to find his highly-praised father that everyone else in his village claims has died when he was but a toddler, while Diana's goal is to prove to her tribe that she doesn't need to conform to their ideas of grace and beauty, instead choosing to embrace strength. They run away from home, bump into Professor Ibaraki's lab in Splinter Town, one thing leads to another, and they learn about the Pokemon League with their badges and E4 and whatnot, and decide that their goals can be achieved by participating in it.

If you choose one, the other will be your rival. I might plan one more rival character, that I can say. Additionally, some other things, most notably the first and eight gyms, will be different depending on the chosen characters.

    Aims, Goals and Other Things

Pokemon Centres will still be around in some towns but absent in others for the sake of immersion, and when interacting with the PCs, it will have dialogue about how you're too technology-illiterate to use them. Thinking about this feature, I decided to implement Mewtwo(Morpheus)/Keldeo(Diana), mysterious Pokemon that wish to aid you, claiming that they are repaying some kind of debt. Mewtwo/Keldeo will also serve as a Pokemon Centre function-wise, being an NPC to interact with where they will not only heal your Pokemon, but also substitute the PC's Item storage and Pokemon storage features. They'll be in the story, but that is another story. You can still interact with Pokemarts as per normal, though.

The Available Pokemon are planned to span from Generations 1 to 7. Seeing that this'll leak into Generation 8, I'll consider including Mons from those Generations as well. While I have no Fakemon planned at all, I might plan alternate forms of existing Pokemon. There are also many kinds of Legendary Pokemon to be encountered and caught throughout, and this will become more abundant after the 8th Gym.

I plan to use Sprites that make full use of RPGMaker XP's 32x32 tiles. All trainer battle sprites are intended to be pre-made for this, whether from scratch or based on existing sprites, and will likely be 200x200 pixels each. All Pokemon Sprites for real Pokemon will either be official Gen V static sprites or from Smogon's Gen VI or Gen VII Sprite Projects, with some modification to them should alternate forms be made for the game. The tilesets used are intended to be taken from a mix of original tiles and credit-provided ones from the community or Deviantart.

There are 16 Gyms planned, the first 8 in the first region and the second 8 in a new region. The way each Gym works will have you enter the Gym, being unable to leave until you lose a battle or defeat the Gym Leader. When facing the Gym Leader, you have to select the same number of Pokemon that they will use (this part is ultimately discarded from the seventh Gym onwards, where Gym Leaders will have full teams of six from then on). Gyms 4 an onwards will possess a Mega Evolution each for their Gym Leader, so be careful! The Elite Four is to be presented in the style used from Gen V onwards, where they can be battled in any order desirable.

HMs will be replaced by 'Skills', which, mechanics-wise, are key items. Yes, you the player are effectively breaking rocks, trees and even traversing the map in an instant with your own bodily limitations, which is actually pretty high all things considered. This will make you wonder why you even need Pokemon.

There are a lot of other things planned to be including, such as your starters being following Pokemon, outfits, the VS seeker, so on.

My primary goal for this Project is, in addition to presenting a story in the form of a game, to present a Pokemon Game so challenging, you cannot Nuzlocke it, but still manageable and reasonable. I intend for money to be an easy-to-obtain resource compared to standard Pokemon games, however.

    The Story

There are two sides to the story – the personal story, which refers to your character's own goals, their inner feelings, and the overarching story, which is where the big bad appears and does big bad things. Everyone likes the sight of titanic Olympus Mons razing everything so I'll talk about the latter instead.

Our big bad team, Team Kingdom, has a goal of making their leader a 'King' once more through various means. Their primary goal is to resurrect the Dragon Pokemon that had split into Zekrom, Reshiram and Kyurem, as their leader strongly believes that owning the 'original Dragon' is an emblem of a King worthy of ruling a region. What do these Grunts have to gain? Well, noblehood in a newly-revamped region.

It is said that their leader already possesses Kyurem, so don't expect your first impression of him to be a pushover!

    Well then…

Well, I've written a lot. All things considered, there's not a lot more to describe, and I don't want to spoil anything.

Depending on how long I take, I intend to release a 4 gym demo at minimum, or an 8 gym demo ideally. If I'm that desperate, a 2 gym demo. After the demo, each major update will release gyms two by two, alongside a juicy chunk of plot. After the Gym 16 update, expect the final update to be the Elite 4 and Champion. Considering the rate I'm doing things, I am unsure if I want to include Post-Game Content. Maybe I will at a leisurely rate, but I would most likely wish to start on another project after accomplishing this one.
