Pokemon Mystery #1: The Pink Butterfree

A.) It was from Pinken Island and had its body saturated with the fruit that turned it pink

B.) It was yet another variation in appearance from the Orange Islands. Prof. Ivy said herself that Pokemon in that area look different from Kanto Pokemon, so obviously if the pink Butterfree was from the OI it would look different

C.) It was a design device to set it apart from the other Butterfree, so kids could know which to keep their eye on

Its the anime why would you care its just so little kids can tell that its different and its a girl so it fell in love. simple as that. or if you wanted a smart answer its from one of the orange island called Pinkan island which holds pinkan berrys which turns pokemon pink either that or she migrated through the island you take it from there.

you don't really know what gender the pink Butterfree was, it could of been a boy

Umm, keep in mind, the idea of a pink Butterfree came into play LONG before shiny Pokemon ever did.

But, arguably, it's one of the things that sparked the idea in the first place.

I always thought they were just trying to show that the other butterfree was girl. I never really put much thought into it.

I don't think they meant for you to. xD

It was pink to point out that it was female, and it's just one of the many things that they throw in to an episode and hope no one will question. Sort of like the baby Pikachu in an early Kanto episode. Seemed normal at the time, but now that Pikachu has a pre-evolution it's so horribly flawed.

I like the Orange Island theory for this pink Butterfree, though. <3

I think it was an easter egg showing a different colored Pokemon. Maybe that's what lead the creators to think up shiny Pokemon.

I always assumed it was done to tell the female Butterfree and Ash's Butterfree apart from the other Butterfree.
Ash's Butterfree was wearing a scarf while the female Butterfree was pink. The other Butterfree's where... erm well, just Butterfree's.

Makes sense, but I mean in terms of story that leaves a bit of a plot hole. Then again, the writers more or less just want us to go with it.
