Pokemon Names

Yeah I know that. I was asking the creator of the thread.

Generally, when someone asks a question on a thread, that person will accept an answer from anyone. If you have a question for a specific person, then ask them on VM or PM. Also, if you knew the answer, why did you ask the question? :/

I remember a wheel turning in my head and, Ekans is snake backwards, and Arbok is Cobra backward (except for the k)

That's an easy one. Sometimes, it becomes sort of like a game to guess what words the Pokémon's name is made up of. I'm weird that way. :D

I despair for humanity sometimes. Ten years and people never realised that Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee were named after Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee?

A lot of English names for Pokémon are taken directly form the Japanese (e.g. Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi), with slight edits to take into account for differences in language, i.e. some 'r' sounds becoming 'l' sounds. As for those that are renamed in English, most are fairly obvious. For example, 'Poliwag' comes from the archaic English word 'polliwog' and the word 'wag'. Discerning the origins of names really isn't difficult at all if you use our friend Mister Common Sense every now and again.

Oh, and if you didn't realise that 'Ekans' was 'snake' backwards you deserve to be removed from the gene pool. :D

I didn't. He answered a question I didn't asked.

Well why do you think they called them that?
Did you think they just liked the ring of the names and decided to call them that?

Basically, they think up of creative ways to express the origin or reference of that Pokemon in one name.

I didn't. He answered a question I didn't asked.

Yes, he did answer a question you asked. "they think up of creative ways to express the origin or reference of that Pokémon in one name" seems like a suitable answer to "Well why do you think they called them that?", as well as an answer to your other question, if you would stop to think about it.

(I guess I'm just a grammar freak. Not saying your grammar is bad or anything [I've seen worse :D] but "I didn't asked" isn't right.)
