[ROM Hack] Pokemon Nova Hoenn H4X Run

(Due to my laptop crashed and got a factory reset the save file is deleted, therefore the run is cancelled)

Pokemon Nova Hoenn is a rom hack of Pokemon Alpha Sapphire by Punxhi05 released at 2017. It replaces Brendan & May with Max & Jenna (from Sinnoh and Unova respectively) as playables and rivals, Team Aqua is replaced by Team Yami and all gym leaders, elite four, Steven, Zinnia and Birch are replaced by other characters as well (either canon characters from other games, anime, manga or oc's). All wild Pokemon and normal trainers are randomized (except for Aarune and post game rematches with Wally, the elite four and Steven). All Pokemon that evolves by trading can evolve in another way.

The game seems to be obscure as i only heard about it earlier this year and that nobody in here has ever talked about so im the first one to do so. The game is apparently originally created in Spanish with an English version released later. All the playtroughs on youtube that i find are all in Spanish which means mine will be the first one in English.

I play the game using an emulator that im not sure i am allowed to mention as it has a useful screenshot function and it is the only way i know to play the game. I would use PkHex in order to make my life easier. I would most likely use it only to clone a pokemon and changing the species to make an item useful, to give my Pokemon a usable STAB(s) and/or legal movesets or give my self rare candies and heart scales to spare my self from grinding.

To make this LP more fun (and to spare my sanity) i decided to input a catch trainer's pokemon code. Note as this is my second playtrough i decided to only catch pokemon from trainers that i did not catch on my previous playtrough (with a few exceptions). For example a Lass has a Spoink and Seedot, Anna (my PC from the first playtrough) caught her Seedot so in my LP i can only catch Spoink. For trainers with only one Pokemon that means i must defeat it if Anna caught their pokemon before otherwise i can catch it. Note that i can catch more than one Pokemon from the same trainer.

I would also do my best to nickname every pokemon or at the bery least members of my main team. This is for story related reasons to keep the role playing feel.

As for how long i would play the game, i would play until the end of the Delta Episode as the second battle against Zinnia as that is the last battle that is not randomized. Though i might make an epilogue episode.

Also note that apparently if you patch the game all the text edits are undone... but since i did that before i know about it so i never know about the original story. If anyone can tell me the original story in detail do tell me. But at least it allows me to put in cheat codes so thats a good thing.

Note that the LP will use less screen shots than you might expect as the story is exactly the same as regular Alpha Sapphire. Instead expect more screen shots of the randomized wild pokemon and trainers mostly to show off whats available and what are you going to face against.

Episode 0: Backstory

Dear diary, this will be my last entry in Sinnoh. Tommorow i will be moving to Littleroot town at Hoenn. My step father got fired from his job at Ribbon Syndicate and the only job he can get is to become Petalburg city gym leader. He could not bear to be separated from mother so we have no choice but to move with him. While he is my father i usually call him Mr. Magatroyd and while my mom immediately change her last they never bothered changing mine untill i move to Hoenn. I lived my whole live in Resort Area and the only time i left there is to go the Fight and Survival Areas. I never left the Battle Zone so i have no idea what people in Hoenn will be like. I wonder how would they react to a psychic like me? I hope that they treat me as a normal human being insted of some sort of living god to be worshiped. People in the Resort Area treat me just like everyone else but a few tourists think i am some sort of diety which is a little unsettling. I have psychic powers but my most powerful ability is telekinesis. I remember giving twisted spoons i make myself to visiting psychics at Resort Area. I can also ride bikes without pedaling them. On the bright side moving to Hoenn means i can finally achieve my dreams of becoming a contest star. I always admire the contest stars that often visits Ribbon Syndicate and it has been my dream to become one since i was 3. I never go to mainland Sinnoh let alone Hearthome city so this is the only chance i got. Anyway i better start packing soon for my new life.

Sorry it took me more than a month for the next episode, simply put so much happened in my life i forgot about this. Anyway here is episode 1,5 (and a bonus episode to!).

Episode 1,5: Hoenn Unconfirmed (Part 2)

Moving north from Oldale town we go to Route 103 for our first battle with not May. This battle is quite hard which why i decided that only one starter is not enough.

Is he your step dad? He only looks a few years older than you.

I was prepared specifically for this.

I'll give you a taste of crushing defeat!

Anyway this battle is cheap and this applies regardless of which starter you pick. Unlike vanilla Alpha Sapphire the rival's starter actually has its own elemental move! While each starter has super effective coverage they are most likely KO-ed by your rival's super effective STAB. "Horsea" players however get the short end of the stick as Poison Sting can't 2HKO "Seedot" without you getting lucky on poisoning it on the first turn. "Seedot" however can 2HKO you as Vine Whip has extra 5 base power over Bubble and Ember. The worst part however is that neither Seedot nor Treecko actually get Vine Whip in their level up moves. Treecko gets Absorb which despite being a draining move only has 20 base power and Seedot actually has none!

With poison on the first turn and smart switching i was able to defeat "Seedot" and gain exp for all team members.

It was quantity over quality against you.

Which one does she mean by "that Pokemon".

Including an aggressive Poochyena.

With one last farewell to mom its time to move on to Route 101 (again).

What is it?!

The one feature that defines ORAS.

I will. Note that since most areas have more Pokemon than the original this can cause the DexNav to have hilarious graphical glitch where some mons can only be shown off screen, this means that you can not chain certain mons in some areas because of it.

Littleroot residents are well known for screaming people's names.

I guess its invisible. :P

But there is nothing on the DexNav!?

Or i could just run yet nothing still happened.

Note that it took me a month long after i become champion in my previous playthrough to figure out that i must walk while holding "D". Previously i thought DexNav is only possible on water mons and even then i have to be lucky with positioning and speed. Anyway if you talk to not May after this she just said the dialog that she use if you fail to catch it because POOCHYENA IS NOT A WILD ENCOUNTER IN THIS ROUTE. This just shows the fine attention they put into detail in this game. Party members so far:

A pretty solid team if you ask me.

Bonus 1: About the Nova Hoenn Starters.

Spoiler:

They intend to change to original Hoenn starters in this game, but thanks to their super 1337 hacking skills the results are quite bizarre. With the exception of Nuzleaf and Seadra the data structure of the starter lines are swapped with other Pokemon. Note that with the exception of dex data, cry and amie data everything is swapped perfectly. Note that evolution methods is more or less the same as their original counterparts and that all three can reach their final stage through friendship.

Seedot Line

Seedot is swapped with Treecko in terms of data. Like Seedot however it evolves into Nuzleaf at level 14. Nuzleaf does not switch places with anything but Shiftry does with Camerupt. This means that if its friendship is high enough you could get a fully evolved Shiftry before the first gym at level 15! Note that Numel, Grovyle and Sceptile does not switch places with anything. Also they are the only starter mon here that all members including the ones that got swapped are all native to the Hoenn dex.

As for move pool Seedot starts with Peck, Magma Storm and Mud Bomb. It later gets Tailwind at level 9 and Fake Out at level 13. Upon evolving to Nuzleaf it gets Power Swap and assuming it reaches max friendship it learns Attack Order when it evolves to Shiftry at level 15. Note that Shiftry is the only starter to get a STAB move with pure level up learning Pursuit at level 22. As far TMs goes the earliest that gives stab is Thief at Slateport which at that point you'll likely already learned Pursuit. The earliest grass TM is at Fortree being Grass Knot. Later on you can get Solar Beam in Safari Zone (please use it with Sunny Day available at the nearby Scorched Slab), Dark Pulse at Aqua Hideot and if you're lucky Snarl from a Mirage Cave.

Growlithe Line

Growlithe is swapped with Torchic in terms of data. Since Growlithe only evolves once it can fully evolve even earlier than Seedot at level 6 if you run around for around an hour and a half. Arcanine switch places with Diancie of all things but Combusken and Blaziken does not switch with anything. Note that the actual Growlithe line is the only starter mon here to not be in the Hoenn dex.

As for move pool Growlithe starts with Thunder Shock, Belly Drum and Thunder Fang. Note that neither Growlithe or Arcanine get any STAB moves from level up so you have to rely on TMs. The earliest that gives stab is Incinerate in Mt. Chimney with Flame Charge and Overheat soon after at Jagged Pass/Lavaridge Gym respectively. If you have enough cash you can buy Fire Blast at Lilycove Deparment Store for 30K. The last TM you get is Flamethrower all the way at Victory Road!

Horsea Line

Horsea is swapped with Mudkip in terms of data. Despite evolving to Seadra earlier than the original at level 24 instead of 32 Horsea still evolved the latest compared to the other starters. Since trading is unavailable you can evolve Seadra with Water Stone... except by that time you would most likely ended up evolving it with friendship anyway. While Seadra does not switch places with anyone Kingdra does with Audino. Note that Marshtomp and Swampert does not switch places with anything. Like the Growlithe line Audino is not native to the Hoenn dex.

As for move pool Horsea starts with Poison Sting, Mist and After You. At levels 9, 12, 17 and 20 it learns Fake Tears, Night Daze, Attract and Bulldoze respectively. Upon evolving to Kingdra at level 25 it learns Detect. Like the Growlithe line, members of the Horsea line have to depend on TMs for STAB. The earliest you could get is Surf after beating Petalburg gym. The rest of the TMs comes in late game with Dive and Waterfall available after beating Mossdeep and Sootopolis gyms respectively, Scald at Seafloor Cavern and Draco Meteor through tutor at Sootopolis.

Episode 2: Power Sleeper

Remember how in the last episode i note how DexNav Poochyena is not available in this game? Well... as you can tell I'm not a person that is willing to go empty handed that easily so...

Yes. I decided to temporarily move this save file to vanilla Alpha Sapphire just to catch the damn thing. Anyway meet Kagerou, while i won't use her in battle since we already have Shadow i figure she would be a rarity in my PC with her being the only mon that is completely legit.

Moving on to Route 102 the first normal train you can find is Youngster Calvin and he is a mandatory battle.

Yes he has an Exeggutor. Fortunately its only level 4 and its move set is not too deadly and at this point even with a base attack of 95, and you can catch fully evolved mons like Purugly in Route 101 to make it more equal. Its move set includes Body Slam, Razor Shell, Calm Mind and Water Sport. It gives a huge amount of exp so i recommend all members of your team to participate for a level boost. I already catch it in before so in a previous playthrough so i skip it.

It gives enough exp to give Wurmple a new move.

The next battle is an optional one but i skipped him before so i won't this time.

I got my very first steal!

I figured this would be a good name. Also he has Bolt Strike which is neat.

Well who doesn't like free berries. But i won't bother with replanting since i would forget about it. You can battle the youngster nearby and...

I don't plan to add it to my team so i won't bother with a nickname. His other mon is a level 2 Maractus btw.

I got a new member of the squad.

It was only 13 seconds.

But you were facing the other direction.

If you check your DexNav you get Beutifly's entry and that cutscene is the only time you can. Note that the lass nearby has a Kakuna but i catch it in my previous playthrough.

Well time to go to Petalburg City.

Well i try to go to Route 104 but i stumble upon Mr Magatroyd and forced to eavesdrop him.

Episode 3: Salty Rocks, Transforming Camels and Deadly Sweepers, Oh My!

There isn't much things in the South Route 104 so you better of just move on as quickly as possible. On the beach there is a youngster you can battle. Rotom-H isn't too bad but Whimsicott is too annoying so i don't.

The one and only Rich Boy Winston.

Move set is Barrage, Power Trick, Refresh and Disarming Voice. It's a deadly move set in the early game and given to fully evolved pokemon to boot. He still has his Full Restore so good luck!

I have to resort to this to stand a chance but at least it gives plenty of exp.

The dex entry speaks for itself.

The first evolution in this LP! With Wurmple evolving to Silcoon now i can start thinking its nickname. Also it learned Gunk Shot.

He had a level 10 Nidoran♀️. Its moveset isn't deadly but the level can throw you off.

It defeated Sleeper but Salty defeat it despite being half of its level. Needless to say it reached level 7.

Even if you have more than one Pokemon you would use both on the first battle and can't battle me twice in a row. Stupid.

Finally no more switching mons for exp.

Unlike vanilla Alpha Sapphire you need the exp share to keep things balanced.

At least i don't have to go back to the poke center this time.

It has Hi Jump Kick and Sleeper is the last one standing. If this is a nuzlocke i will cry.

I could use this to sweep the gym.

Finally my starter getting a good move. Also he had a Luxray but it has bad movepool so Salty defeat it with ease.

This is the first route that has a legendary (Heatran) but good luck catching something with a catch rate of 3 with only Poke Balls. (Route 101 Diancie horde does not count since its technically Arcanine, also you can find a Cresselia in common or rare hordes in Petalburg Woods).

Just say yes so i can unlock something later on.

Now i can actually take care of the berries. Also a little girl near her will give a random "common" berry per day.
