THE INT'L ASSOCIATION OF POKEMON LEAGUES PRESENTS
Introduction
Pokemon Pacific Blue is the first in an upcoming series of open source Pokemon fan games based on locations around the world, created by the International Association of Pokemon Leagues (the IAPL for short). While the game will use Iron Python for most of its code, the engine itself is programmed in C# and uses XNA for the graphics subsystem, as well as several custom written libraries for moves, pokemon, etc, so in reality, this is really two projects- an open source game engine in C#, XNA and Iron Python (as well as a mapeditor for the engine, which will be released as a seperate open source project) that anybody can contribute to and benefit from, and an open source game to show it off.
Edit 2/4/2011- Linux/Mac support will be coming at a later date, via the FourStarMon engine! This engine is programmed in C/C++ and uses OpenGL for graphics. Stay tuned for more info~!

Storyline
Summary
X years before the story, NorthCo makes an incredible discovery. While disposing of pollutants caused by one of their factories, an accident occurs leading to a toxic spill. The contaminated environment encourages the propagation of Grimer and Muk which soon overrun the area. Disposal of the Muk lead to the discovery of gold nuggets occasionally forming in the body of a Muk, leading to hidden "Muk Farms" in the present day.
Criminals are gathered and form a gang called Team Toxic to help prevent discovery of the Muk Farms and hinder any investigations into the pollution. They are called on to take care of any odd jobs and illegal matters, along with the disposal of evidence. The team is lead by a group of administrators whom only answer to Balgenorth.
Some time later, Cedar, a lower-ranking administrator who did research on Pokémon at the time, soon realized that there was more to Team Toxic's operations than just punking around. He turns around and defeats Team Toxic, and forces them to end their plans for the time being.
About six years later, Sean and Marina, along with Chadwick, receive their Pokémon from Professor Cedar, each with different goals in mind. Team Toxic (and NorthCo), having finally recovered from Cedar's betrayal, are now even more set in establishing their Muk Farms. Slowly but surely, they begin re-appearing, and the player will first encounter Team Toxic in Meadowvalle, and will come across "Club Toxic", a recruitment centre under the guise of a dance club. The player will continue to encounter and sabotage the plans of Team Toxic throughout the game, culminating in the infiltration of NorthCo and the defeat of Balgenorth.

*Hard mode Elite Four- these aren't your grandpas Elite Four! In Pacific, they are true masters, with pokemon up to lvl.92, holding items such as Leftovers, and Amulet Coin*

Unfortunately, as of right now, we don't have any, and we may not have any for a while. That is because screenshots this early in the process will skew peoples expectations of what the game will look like- and trust me, it looks very, very ugly right now :p

We are working on releasing a private alpha version in spring 2011, to coincide with Pokemon Black and White. Currently, there is no timeframe for a final version.

Yes! We badly need people who can-
Sprite and do concept art
Create Music
Program in C#, and know how to use XNA
Program in C or C++, and know how to implement OpenGL
Don't worry though, if you can't do any of those things well, you can help out with script writing (for Pacific or other regions if you wish), you can help out with the wiki... there are many, many ways you can help out!
