Pokemon PRO
A fanfiction
Rating: Mature for violent/scary themes
Thank you for visiting my fanfiction! This storyline was intended for a comic, but then I realized that my writing is way easier to understand than my strips, so please enjoy it anyway.
Pandah is a field worker at the Pokemon Rescue Operations building. Follow through her eyes in a roller coaster story filled with danger that reveals the worst in human nature. Pandah and her coworkers want to create a world that is abuse and neglect free for all pokemon, but with the people in their reports it is going to be a tough ride.
Prologue (see bottom of this post)
Ch 1: An Unexpected Call
Prologue: Everything Starts Somewhere
The slightly annoying sound that comes from your alarm in the morning had been ringing in my ear for a while. I have a high tolerance for annoying, but the somewhat quiet ringing in the back of my head had begun to work my nerves. Flying not-so-gracefully back into reality I realized that the tone was in fact my handbook. It's kind of like a really cool cell phone that shows images of the people you are speaking to. Everyone at my work has one.
Taking a few more moments to swim back into my skin, I heard a familiar voice slipping out from under the closed handbook, "Pandah! What are you doing? Where are you?" I yawned, opening the screen so I could hear him better, "In bed, Lewie. Where else would I be at this time in the morning?"
He looked on at me with an admonishing stare, "Take a second look at your clock, Pandah. Lieutenant is going to be here in ten minutes!" Following his command my sleepy gaze turned toward the meowth that was happily guarding my clock. It took a few moments, but I knew my face churned into something horrid, because I heard my notebook laughing at me.
"God d-! I'll be there as soon as I can!" I shouted back as I ran from the room to get ready. I barely heard his reply, "Bring the paperwork with you- I'll stall for time." With a rush and a hurry I dawned my work clothes (a green and white sport suit that had a panda bear patch sewn to the front thanks to the sense of humor of one of my old bosses) and combed my mess of bubblegum hair. Giving up after a moment I slipped on a white beret to hide most of the monstrosity and rushed out the door, nearly forgetting my bag and the ever important paperwork.
Come to think of it, this is my ritual nearly every morning. I work at PRO. That stands for Pokemon Rescue Operations. We are a wildlife protection agency that deals with all sorts of abandoned and abused pokemon. In the past we have helped out in crisis to evacuate wildlife and to reunite trainers with their partners.
But today, that isn't my job. My manager is out and it is my job to make sure that our quarterly inspection goes well. Let's just say being late isn't the best impression. When I finally made it to the PRO building it was about 20 after, and my knees were shaking. As I approached the front doors they slid open automatically- as they always do- to reveal a lobby that was just what you would expect out of a lobby: White, decorated with the dull, clearance paintings no one even notices and fake potted trees. For the first time in forever, though, I hadn't noticed any of this as I stepped in. All my eyes could focus on were the two men standing in the center of the room.
One of them was Lewie, my operator. He has an unmistakable geeky appearance. Pale skin, freckles, messy dirty-blonde hair. He also chooses to actually wear the PRO uniform, a dark grey and red outfit that isn't in the least bit cool at all. My heart calmed down as I saw him and his goofy grin, however. That meant he was up to something.
He turned to the man beside him, the uniformed Lieutenant Pierce, "There she is! Did you get everything the fire department needed to send us? I told her that she would be late if she went to grab them, but she insisted that finishing up on that job was more important." There was a moment of awkward silence, but it was closely followed by a booming laugh, "That is the spirit, Pandah!!! It is people like you that this company needs!"
He bought it…
"Haha. Thank you, sir… I guess we should get on with the inspection, then."
