Pokemon real life lookalikes and cognates

Lots.
PsyDUCK = Duck :)
GolDUCK = Duck :)
I like Ducks
Charmander = Lizard
Magikarp = fish :O
Goldeen = Fish :P
Pretty much every Pokémon is based off an animal. Some are more obvious then others but it's there :D
 
skitty, meowth, glameow = cats
mareep = sheep
caterpie- caterpillar

too tired to think of any others :)

I always found it strange Growlithe acted so dog-like despite looking A LOT like a tiger. I'm not contradicting you like Growlithes always act to much like puppies, just found it weird cause I never met a stripey orange dog

Horsea = Sea horse
Seaking = Fish
Mew = Cat
Mewtwo = Large freakish looking clone of a cat with humanish appereance to make him seem more intelligent and evil? O.o
Geodude = A rock?
Biddoof = Whatitcalled ._.
Buizal = Otter isn't it?
Squirtle/Wartortle/Blastoise = Turtles :D I love turtles

Oh and Murcrow is a crow I believe xD

Growlithe looks like a tiger cub to me as well. Arcanine looks like a beast lol :D

Bulbasaur looks like a mutated plant O.o Frog sounds about right though lol

Ralts family = Humans (?)
Ho-oh = Phoenix
Yanmega = Beelzebub Meganeura (a large prehistoric insect)

Whailmer is a whale as is Whailord :O
Kyogre would be a blue whale? Like with a bad ass twist?
Quilava = Otter :) I like Quilava as well
Khangskan is a Kangaroo. They don't exist in other countries :)

Possibly.

Based on my "reseach", those two are supposedly based on the Behemoth and Leviathan, in that order respectively.

And Rayquaza is supposedly based on the Ziz. (Which resembles a bird, where Quaza doesn't)

I'm confusing, huh? xP
 
Yeah, tons of em are based on an animal of some sort. Some of them even have thesame name give or take a few letters, example is Mankey = Monkey.
Ekans = Snake (read it backwards) this also works with Arbok. Just dunno if Kobra is spelled like that...
Arceus = Goat (whoever's sig i've seen that in is a genius)
Kricketot = Kricket
Persian = Cat
Empoleon = Penguin (Mine one are called a Pingu:P)
Houndoom = Dog
Girafarig = Giraffe (Another one that's cool to read backwards)
Infernape = Ape
I can tell you what any of them are based off. Just not some that aren't animals. Examples being Regi's and Giratina (Centipede?)
 
Pokemons based on dinosaurs:
Lapras: Plesiosaur
Cranidos/Rampardos: Pachycephalosaurus
Shieldon/Bastiodon: Chasmosaurus (similar to Triceratops)
Aerodactyl: Pterodactyl
Tyranitar: Tyrannosaurus rex
 
hmm lots of the original ones were based of real animals but modern ones not so much

most of them have already been gotten in the thread though, i've not got much more to add :(
 
Girafarig = Giraffe, and works if you spell it backwords too.
