Sera's eyes widen when she realized that the girl's Soulmon, Kylie she believed the girl called herself, was the same gender as her. The sword user had heard that something like that happened, but she had never seen it herself in person. Saraph was also surprised but he just smiled and nodded his greeting to the girl and her Raichu Soulmon.

"Um...it's nice to meet you," Sera said. "I don't think I've meet you either before...but any where..."

"Sera, I don't think you know a lot of people," Saraph said with a chuckle. "You're not really the social type, if you ask me."

Sera was about to yell at her Soulmon when General Mc Murfee coughed again. The two turned their attention to the old general as he looked at everyone. "Well, since most of you are here, I think I should continue with what I wanted to tell you," Mc Murfree said. "Now...could someone name me all the factions known?"

Sera raised her hand and Mc Murfree nodded in her direction, letting her know that she can continued. "There's the Three Kings, the Holy Knights, the Dark Angles, the Shadow Force, the Wolf Soldiers, the Doom Fires, the Aqua Queens and the Bladed Jacks."

The general smiled kindly, "Is that all? Really? What about the new faction that has made itself known?" He said.

"You mean Team Fallout?" Sera asked, then scoffed. "They're nothing but a bunch of wanna-be nobodies. They say that they want to actually want to end the war but everyone knows that's just BS. I mean, anyone who actually believes that stupid stuff have are nothing but stupid in the head. Just they're name shows their true intent."

"Be that as it may, they are still a faction that has at least some influence on the battle field," Mc Murfree said. "In any case, I am here to inform you that a new faction is being made as we speak. A faction, that will have much influence in this war. A faction, that will have the strongest and best soldiers in it. A faction that will unleashe a new and very powerful being upon the world. And that faction...will have all of you soldiers in it."

Jacob gave a small half-smile to Meredith as she spoke, but their conversation was quickly cut off by the captain. He slid his eyes over to him, curious as to why they had been gathered. The general was a rather well-built man, to the point that Jacob felt that if there was a fight, somehow, between him and the captain, he'd have absolutely no chance of victory. Even with the other higher-ranking members, Jacob normally could find a weakness somewhere in their form, or with their Soulmon. But not McMurfee.

There was a slight lull in the conversation, and the young man returned his attention to Meredith. "I'm not entirely sure. All I can really get from McMurfee is confidence in whatever he's going to talk about. He knows how to guard his thoughts, and his shinen is extremely basic." He frowned. "He knows how to keep from leaking information in pretty much any way possible." Turning, he looked at Eve. "You getting anything I'm not?"

The Gardevoir shook her head slowly. <No. It is as you say, Jacob. His mind is a tightly guarded chest. His Garchomp too, has an interesting mental block on it. All I get when I try to read it is a dull buzzing sound. No thoughts, no feelings. It's almost like it doesn't have them.> The slim pokemon let a shrug take her shoulders, showing that she was just as baffled as he was.

Before conversation could continue, however, McMurfee began to speak again, asking about factions. A girl near the front, who Jacob only recognized due to her attitude, gave the answer the general was looking for about the factions, steering the conversation to an interesting point about Team Fallout before the bomb was dropped.

A new faction.

"Waitwhat?" Jacob asked aloud. He'd been approached a few times by the Shadow Force, and he had more or less planned to join them. This, however, was an upset that he wasn't entirely prepared for. "Why?"

Robert's ears twitched as the General began to speak.
"Well, since most of you are here, I think I should continue with what I wanted to tell you." Mc Murfee began. "Now... Could someone name me all the factions known?"
A girl raised her hand. Robert recognised her from Close-Combat classes. She seemed anti-social, but then again, so did he. He tried to think of her name. Sarah? No, that wasn't it. After the girl began to speak remembered it. Her name was Sera. Robert realised he was beginning to zone out again and quickly began to listen again.
"...And that faction... will have all of you soldiers in it," Mc Murfee finished.
"What? Which faction?" Robert whispered quietly.
"A new one, and that girl with the Charizard was talking about Team Fallout," replied Polo. "Weren't you listening?"
"I was... I just..." Robert laughed nervously but quietly.
"You what? I told you to listen!" Polo muttered.
Robert fell silent. Team Fallout? To him it sounded lame. But a mission was a mission so he would do it. A new faction sounded pretty cool. He wanted to make a difference in the war and earn respect like General Mc Murfee. He wanted medals. Robert loved things that shined.

Katie listened, keeping her face impassive. Raion growled low, a sign that he was upset. She stroked his head. Her eyes gained a thoughtful gleam as she gazed around the room. A new faction, made up of all the people in this room and maybe a few others.

We're screwed, Raion whined to her. Katie frowned thoughtfully.

I certainly hope not. Besides, we can work with this people. They seem capable enough to me for fighting.

But just because you're almost incapable at getting angry doesn't mean everyone else is. Some of these guys look about ready to murder each other. Or close.

Don't be such a pessimist. Anyway, did the general just say that the people here are the best soldiers? Does he mean the best in our field or the best as a future team?

Hopefully it's the first. Katie inwardly sighed and listened again.

"So," Alicia muttered under her breath. "What do you think?"

What is there to think? A new faction made up of every person in this room. Sounds interesting, no?

"That depends," Alicia answered, her eyes darting from face to face. "Most of these people look like they have potiental. But they also look like they have weaknesses."

Well, everybody has a weak point.

"It doesn't help when 'everybody' is young, new, and has absolutely no combat experience," Alicia grumbled. "Succeeding and managing to survive will be difficult enough, let alone working together as a team."

Yes, well, I'm sure the general knows what he's doing. After all, he always seemed to have sense. I'm sure he thought this out. Remember the perfectly thoughtful way he treated you when you were a child?

Alicia vaguely thought about the time the general had nicknamed her and Aili 'Alicia-poo' and 'Nuffy-poo'.

"Is that supposed to console me?"

Suke was in the back panting and sweating profusely. A faction?...With all of us as soldiers?

I can't do this. I'm to weak.

Alydia must have seen his saddened expression and scooted over to cheer him up. "It'll be fine, Suke."
"No...It won't. I'm no fighter. I'll just let everyone down."

Alydia found the thought of this faction exciting, but Suke was obviously scared to death. "You'll be fine! And you've got me, and everyone else. A faction sticks together and has each other's backs."

Suke dropped his head. "But no one would have mine...."

"You have to be detirmined! Then you'll succeed..." She gave him a light kiss and rested on his head, but he wasn't feeling much better.

Kylie smiled at Sera "Well it's always great to meet new people, none the less!" She said.

Just then, the General spoke up to the now crowded room. He asked someone to name the different factions. Kylie started raising her hand to answer the question, but Sera's hand shot up before hers was even fully extended. The General called on her and she began naming off the factions. While she did that, Kylie boredly went through the names of all the factions in her mind. Wolf Soldiers, Doom Fires, Aqua Queens.... A simple question enough, Kylie thought to herself. During her training, the six names of the factions were all drilled into her head until they felt like an annoying song that wouldn't stop playing in your mind.

Next, the General started talking about a new faction that was currently in the process of being created. Kylie's eyes widened and she leaned forward on her desk, a curious expression on her face. Mimi did the same as well.

"And that faction... will have all of you soldiers in it."

What? Us??? Mimi said in shock.

Kylie's eyes grew even bigger with surprise. "B-but we're only trainees!" She turned and whispered to Mimi. "How could we possibly help to uphold a new faction?"

I guess we're better trainees than we thought we were... Mimi's fur along her tail stood up in excitement.

"Well I knew we were pretty good when it came to training, but this?" Kylie stared blankly ahead at the General.

Well let's put it this way; if we were chosen for this new faction, then we probably are good enough to help maintain it!

"Good point there.." Kylie turned her head back to Mimi and whispered. "I can't believe this Mim! We're going to be part of a brand new faction! Chosen by the General himself!"

I know! I'm so excited! Mimi whispered back. Kylie could tell she had a hard time containing herself where she sat. Giving a small smile, she turned back towards the front and listened for what the General was going to say next.

General Mc Murfree looked around at all the people gathered, seeing their reaction to what he had said. Some people seemed excited, some seemed warry while others seemed to think that they or others shouldn't be there. But over all, the old general liked what he saw in everyone. He was very sure that they would make great soldiers in the new faction.

"Now, before I tell you the name of this new faction, I will now tell you abou the mission you came here to learn about," the general said, both him and his Soulmon walking forward to the soldiers. "Now, couple someone please explain to me about the 'One'?"

The shock from the general's words made Sera a bit slow. It wasn't until Saraph recovered himself and nudged the girl before she shook her head and raised her hand once more. Mc Murfree nodded and Sera said, "The One is the creator of us all and it was it who decided that a man's soul should be outside of the body and that that soul should represent who that man is. The One is also said to have been the one to create the our souls and is the one to decide what their final form is."

"I'm glad to see that you've been studying up, my girl," Mc Murfree said with a kind smile. "But, can you tell me how many souls the One has?"

Both Sera and Saraph blinked at the same time and looked at each other. After a little bit, Sera turned back to the general and said, "Well sir...I've read in the text books that the One only has one soul, just like everyone else. That was one of the first things they teach you back in pre-training."

"Oh yes, I'm well aware of what we teach younger recuits," the general said. "But I'm here to tell you all that the One doesn't have one soul...it has 16 souls." Both Sera and Saraph could only blink in surprise before the general turned to his Garchomp Soulmon and said, "Slayer? Could you get the plate dear?" Slayer noded and turned around to some boxes, searched though them for a little bit, before pulling out a large, dark red plate.

"Now, this is what one of the One's souls looks like," Mc Murfree said as he took the plate and held it up for everyone to see. "Now this one is just a replica of the Flame Soul. Sadly, we don't have any idea what the other souls look like, though we think they are much like this one but of different colors. The only reason we why we know how this one looks because there a photograph of it. Sadly, we don't know who took the photograph or what they did with it after wards." He gave the Flame Soul replica back to Slayer.

"Now, here is your mission," Mc Murfree said as he turned to face the group once more, "you must go out and look for the Souls of the One. If we are able to collect all of the Souls, then we can use the combined powers to finally bring and end to this war and peace will finally show itself once more to this world. You will all leave tomorrow night under the cover of dark with special medals. These medals will show all the other factions that you must be helped, given shelter and food. Though beware when using them. I do wish it otherwise, but some dirty soldiers in certain faction may try to kill you for the medals. Not to mention that if you have to choose between battling factions, what ever one you pick will offend the other and they may not help you later on. I suggest only using them when up absolutly have to. Also remember to look around and ask about the Souls. Any questions about this very special and important mission?"

Alicia stared. All right. The Creator had sixteen souls, and it was their mission to find each of them and combine them in order to end the war. They would have medals and would be given special treatment from other factions. Her thought process had a rather harder time than usual registering the information.

"What is the general thinking?" she murmured. "If it becomes known we are given special treatment, we'll be surely disliked by all the other factions. They might give us food and supplies to follow orders, but they'll make sure we're miserable all the less. Surely it's a bad idea to provoke jealousy and anger among our own soldiers?"

And to make matters worse, every person here is green to the core. Nobody's ever been sent on a real mission before, not even you. And we're teenagers. The adults, especially the hgih-ranking ones, won't like this one bit.

"Exactly," Alicia said in a low tone. "It would be better to operate in the dark, in complete secrecy."

But I suppose one way or another, information would leak out. That would create an even bigger shock for the public. Perhaps this is done in order to prevent that? Aili suggested thoughtfully. Sooner or later, people will get used to it and will help us. Maybe that's what the general is hoping.

"That may be it," Alicia agreed. "But still...if we worked in the shadows at first, and then the truth was suddenly revealed, people would still know that we had already completed many missions. They might begrudge us a little, but then they wouldn't be able to deny our ability. Wouldn't that be better?"

Aili shrugged. Who knows? I am sure the general has his reasons for this. Besides, he added slyly. I see you are already referring to this new faction as 'we'.

Alicia glared. "It was only a matter of speaking."

Right.

She jerked her head up crossly. "There's no way I'll actually have to work together with these people."

She was not sure if she believed herself or not.

Sixteen souls. Sixteen pairs of people and their soulmons. That makes sense, but why us? We're just a bunch of teenagers. No one will respect us or give us the special treatment that McMurfee told us we would get. "This is rediculous." Meredith whispered to Camden, "What are a bunch of teenagers going to be able to do?"

You are underestimating yourself. You and Jacob are the best in the Long Range class, and the rest of these people are probably the best as well. Just you wait, I'm sure there's a reason for everything.

"Yeah I'm sure there is, but why wouldn't McMurfee pick more experienced fighters?" Meredith then spoke louder, "Sir, if i may be so bold as to ask, but where are we supposed to start looking for these Souls? They're probably hidden all over the world. I mean, where are we supposed to begin looking?"

You idiot. I don't think he'd send anyone off looking for something without a clue as to where it is.

"You may be right but I just want to be sure." Meredith gave Camden a quick response and looked back up at the General.

Katie raised an eyebrow. Interesting. This mission smells off. This faction's mission is to collect the Creator's souls to end the war? Sounds like an ultimatum.

Or worse, a cover-up. Raion muttered. Katie put the suspicion to the back of her mind.

The other factions are gonna treat us like dirt until we prove ourselves.

Why should we have to? If the General thinks this group has what it takes, then why should they get upset over it? Raion argued, tilting his head.

She shrugged. Jealousy, though I don't see why. We're a bunch of newbies sent on a retrieval mission. Even if it's key to ending this war, they should just take what they can get. Glory isn't all that important. Raion rolled his eyes and dropped the subject.

So are we going to hide or go up to them with confidence?

Both probably. Depends on who takes charge. She faintly heard that girl, Meredith, ask a question and paused.

As General Mac Murphee spelled the words out, Artifabre's round eyes widened. Even Tifa didn't have the nerve to scream out loud, but she talked with Marco telepathically instead.
-Wow, a new faction! Holy acrylic, that's a surprise. And it all has roots in the One!, Artifabre said rapidly. Marco was still calm. –Well, I'm glad that we don't need to choose a faction. We already have one, Marco said happily. Artifabre seemed to calm down minimally too. –Yes, and we're done with training!, Tifa thought. But this time, Marco didn't show any response…

~~~
Hmmm… With a new faction we need a new symbol. Oh, it should be great. Maybe a gem or something. Yes, and the colors! Maybe using blue and orange wouldn't be such a bad idea? Green and Purple would look a little poison-like… Or all the three primary colors! Though it may look childish, I could totally make it work. Maybe the symbol should symbolize the One, since he is the origin to all this. I know, it should be a diamond, symbolizing the one, and a rainbow shining through it, symbolizing his souls.
~~~
-That would be a great idea, Marco… Ooops!, Artifabre interrupted…

–Tifa, you heard it all, didn't you!, Marco said telepathically. She nodded, but this time she replied out loud: "Well, in my defense, it was pretty impressive". "Well, still… Well, I really have nothing to hide from you, so it's OK" Marco replied in acceptance.
He raised his hand, and spoke as the general nodded. "Excuse me sir, but is the faction named yet? And does it have a symbol? If it does not have a symbol, then I have a nice suggestion…" Marco said before awaiting the General's reply.

Marco looked around and scanned his future teammates… or rivals. He noticed a dragon who looked like had been dragged out of a children's fairytale. None the less, it looked powerful. Full of potential. He noticed two feline soulmons, both belonging to girls, who looked similar, the big difference being that the color-scheme of the coats were opposite. It couldn't be helped. He wanted to see them all in action. And he wanted to show them his skills.

Marco snapped out of it, and focused on the general again, who was about to answer his question…

Kylie looked down at Mimi, who was shaking in her seat. Her expression on her face looked like a mixture of excitement and fear. Tomorrow night?! Mimi whispered over to Kylie, her voice filled with worry.

"So soon.." Kylie said, her voice sounding very far away as she stared off into space.

Mimi reached over and lightly shook Kylie's arm, who jumped slightly at the touch and shook her head back and forth. She looked back down at Mimi.

What are we gonna do, Kylie?? She said, her voice holding a desperate edge to it. We could get ourselves killed!

"Ok ok ok calm down..." Kylie tried to soothe her soulmon while at the same time trying ot sort through the many thoughts racing through her mind. It proved very difficult. "First thing, we can't assume everyone is going to be a good guy, but at the same time we can't automatically assume everyone is out to... to kill us." Kylie mentally shuddered at the thought. "We don't have to stop at any faction if we choose not to.. I'm sure if we go well prepared than we'll be just fine living outside for a while.." Reaching down, she drew her hand across the back of her soulmon, soothing it with her light touch. "Not everyone is going to be a bad guy, Mimi. Plus we have our team, remember?" She said softly, gazing around at all of the people in the cramped room with Mimi. "It'll be ok.. It'll be ok.." Kylie said, not sure whether it was to sooth Mimi or herself at this point, as her own hand hand begun to shake a little as well...

"Ah, yes, I did forget to mention the name of this new faction, didn't I?" The general said with a chuckle. "How foolish of me. I guess that's what happens when you get old. Anyways, the new faction will be called 'Soul Fighters'."

"Soul Fighters?" Sera repeated, finding the name to be quiet strange. "Why would you name us that, General?"

"Well simply because you all are fighting for not only for the Souls of the One, but also for alll of our souls too," Mc Murfree said. "As for the symbol, Marco, we did have an idea. But if you have a better idea I would love to hear it. First, though, I want to explain where you might be able to find the other souls." He started to walk back and forth. "Now, we read on a very old tablet that the plates should be somewhere that is of importance. It also helps if it is natural, like some great waterfall, but if it's very old, like the pyramids, then that should work as well. Also try to think of all the elements, that should help you find the Souls as well."

"So for the Water Soul we should look for some place that is important and has a lot of water?" Sera asked, actually paling a bit when she thought about it.

"Yes, excatly," Mc Murfree said with a nod. "Of course, it's not always going to be that easy, but if you have any idea as to where the souls might be, at least it's a start." The general then stopped and clapped his hands. "Alright! That's all for now! You all should report back to your classes or rooms. Remember, this mission starts tomorrow at night fall."

Minutes later, the General wrapped up his explanation, clapped his hands, and dismissed the faction. Shuffling could be heard from the small room as people got up and ready to head out for the day ahead of them, but it sounded far away to Kylie. Her and Mimi stayed seated where they were, deep in thought and trying to process everything that the General had just told them. Suddenly, Kylie shot up in her seat. "Mimi, I know we can do this." She said to her soulmon.

Mimi looked up and blinked. How so? She asked, tilting her head sideways.

Kylie turned down and grinned. "We just have to believe in ourselves! I know it's easier said than done, but I'm sure if we just watch our backs and be cautious nothing too horrible should go wrong."

I guess it also helps that the plates are to be somewhere natural.. or really old. Mimi nodded. Which means we technically don't have to go to any of the factions.

"And even if we do, not everyone will be evil." Kylie stepped beside her desk and pushed in her chair. "But we must ready ourselves now if we want to be fully prepared tomorrow."

Mimi gave an enthusiastic nod. Let's do this!

With that said, the duo left their desks and began to file out with the rest of the Soul Fighters, ready for the road ahead of them.

See I told you, they wouldn't send us out in the world without knowing where we might be going.

"Yeah but still..." Meredith drifted off in thought. Where will this take me? And how far will I be able to stray from the main mission? This is all very wierd. I wish s more the Gen. gave us more details. I mean, there are so many ways we can take this. I could make this work for me. I'd bend it my way and make it work for me. Yes, this might actually be--

You're being stupid.

"Aww thanks, you're so sweet." Meredith spoke louder again, "Where are we meeting next time?"

General McMurfee glanced her way and answered...

Fire. Water. Grass. Rock. Ground. Steel. Bug. Flying. Psychic. Dark. Ghost. Fighting. Normal. Dragon. Ice. Electric. Sixteen types, sixteen elements, sixteen Souls to search for. The water and grass Souls may be easy, but what about the rest? Would they have to climb steep cliffs in search of the Rock-type Soul? Would they brave fierce storms of sand and snow in order to retrieve the Ground and Ice-type ones? And what of Fire and Steel? Would they travel to volcanoes and mines hidden deep underground?

Feeling a bit worried? Aili asked.

"Of course not," Alicia retorted. "I'm just thinking about it. In fact, this is a very good opportunity for us. We could discover the land and hone our skills to the maximum. There will be thousands of possibilities waiting for us out there. And we will find what we lack: experience. This mission is perfect for us. We'll have the chance to learn more than we ever imagined."

True, Aili agreed. This will be a great chance for us to nurture our strength and grow strong.

"Exactly." Alicia gazed towards the general as he turned to answer the girl called Meredith. "To tell the truth, I'm rather looking forward to next nightfall."

Marco listened to the name. "Soul Fighters". –Catchy, said Artifabre. –Well, I would prefer soul searchers, but hey, Marco thought. He went down to the general.
"Well general, sir. I would like to suggest a symbol. I don't want to be picky or bothering, but I came up with a really genius idea!" Marco told the General. Mac Murphee was a kind man, listening to the young boy. "So, I was thinking that a diamond, symbolizing the one… And a rainbow, shining through it, being his souls. It would look pretty good, if you let the rainbow shine from the left diagonal of the diamond!" Marco explained nervously and enthusiastically at the same time. The General nodded, and answered: "Yes, I will remember it and discuss it with my contacts. Thank you, Marco". Marco saluted and went off, exiting the building.

It was dark outside. Soul Fighters had about 24 hours to get ready. Marco went to his bedroom. As soon as the soul-siblings entered the room, Artifabre lay down in her bed. "It has been a long day, Tifa" Marco said, while taking his shirt off. "For sure! And what a surprise. Yesterday we were merely recruits. Now we are a part of the world-saving Soul Fighters!" Artifabre said, enjoying the moment. Marco got undressed, and went to bed in only his boxers. "Night, Tifa" Marco said, yawning. "Nighty night, Tezorro" Artifabre said, joyfully. Marco frowned, and turned the lights off…

"Sixteen souls." Robert shuddered. The thought of it scared him but he couldn't help feeling a little excited. He knew as soon as he opened that letter that things would be tough, but this seemed impossible. Although he had a few ideas where to search for some, he hadn't a clue where to look for the others. Fighting, steel, dragon, ghost. The words repeated in his head. What was going to happen next?

Robert's thoughts were interupted by his Soulmon.
"Soul Fighters. Pretty cool name, huh?" Polo started.
"Guess so. It feels so weird. I can't wait, but at the same time, I feel nervous and sick." Robert replied.
"It'll be a good experience. This is what we trained for. Now it's finally happening." Polo smiled.
Robert nodded. Polo was right. He could finally prove himself. However, the thought of people trying to kill him and his team-mates scared him.
"Team-mates?" Robert looked around.
These people weren't exactly what Robert wanted to see. He wanted to be alone.
"Still, I could learn to like them," he muttered.
"Huh?" Polo looked puzzled.
"Sorry, nothing. Just thinking out loud again," Robert explained.

Robert listened to all the questions. They seemed important but his mind was blank. The ideas for great and the information was useful. Soon, Robert and Polo would be using all this to try and find the sixteen Souls of the One. They would have to team up and be careful with their trust. Right now, just about anything could happen.

"We will meet again at the next nightfall, when you all leave the Safe Zone." Mc Murfee said as he started to walk away with Slayer beside him. "I suggest you all prepare before hand."

Sera just nodded and walked away back to her room, Saraph right behind her. There was silence between them as they walked back to their room. Once they entered their living area, Sera walked over to the bed and collapsed upon. Saraph just watched mutely and stood a bit away from the girl as she stared up at the ceiling to her room. Then she sighed and sat up on the side.

"So...suddenly, we're in a faction we didn't choose to be in...Going on a mission that sound all but impossible...For reasons we don't even really know," Sera said with another sigh. "What are we to do?"

Saraph growled lowly and moved to stand beside his partner. "Look, don't worry about it," the blue Charizard said. "You were going to graduate soon anyways. I know that the faction isn't the one you wanted but I'm sure that this will work out. We'll get through this together. Although I myself don't get why the general has choosen us or the other students for this faction, but he picked them and us for a reason. I trust him and his decisions, do you?"

"To an extant," Sera said, with another deep sigh. "But, I understand what you are saying. I guess we'll just have to see what comes out of this...for better or for worse."

-/-/-

Later, at nightfall...

Sera and Saraph stood by the north entrance/exit. Neither had said anything as they waited for the other members of the Soul Fighters to appear. Both the human and her Soulmon stared off into the darken distance, trying to see into the gloom. Sera then sighed and looked up at the star filled sky. She looked at the full moon as it moved through the sky.

"I wonder what will happen to us...if we survive this," Sera mused to the sky.
