Robert listened carefully to the General. He got up as he noticed people were beginning to leave. He slowly began to walk back towards his room. Polo followed but remained silent. Neither of them knew what to say. This was the biggest thing that had ever happened to them.

After a long and quiet walk, Robert reached out and opened the door to his room. He immediately lay down on his bed. Finally, Polo broke the silence.
"A new faction," she groaned. "What was Mc Murfee thinking?"
Robert turned his head to face her.
"I don't know, but he must know what he's doing. I'm not sure I like the whole idea of this new faction though."
"I agree. We don't even know what to expect from these people."
"Well, one thing's for sure, this is either really good, or really bad." Robert sighed. "Guess we'll just have to wait and see..."

---

Later, at nightfall...
Robert and his Soulmon marched to the north entrance. Sera, the girl who answered the questions at the meeting was there with her Charizard, Saraph. Robert stood a little away from her. He didn't know if he should talk to her or not. Nothing came to mind and he was almost too nervous about the mission to even move. Polo gulped.
"Well... This is it..."

Alicia collapsed on her bed, with her elbows on her knees and her head in her hands. Aili jumped, landing softly next to her.

Are you all right?

Yeah. Just thinking.

About what?

What the general said.

What about it?

Didn't you listen? When you all leave the Safe Zone. I suggest you prepare beforehand.

So?

He's warning us. The moment we leave the SZ, we'll be completely open. That's probably why we're leaving in the dead of the night. So that we won't cause an uproar. The other factions won't stand for this. Either they'll be jealous, or they'll belittle us and worry about our safety. And the most important thing...

Hm?

I suggest you prepare beforehand. He's telling us to pack all of our weapons and the right supplies. We all have dozens of knifes, blades, arrows, and tools to choose from, not to mention our main weapon. And we have to make sure we have enough food, while still being able to travel light. We need a very precise and sensitive amount of balanced food and material. Then we have to take into account the raw materials we'll find in the nature...

Good thing we had classes about survival and supplies, right?

Yeah.

Aili rested his hard, blazing golden gaze on Alicia's face. Are you ready?

Slowly, she nodded.

Nightfall, and, with it, their mission, would soon begin.

Katie sighed almost exhaustedly, shouldering her small black bag. Raion glanced at her anxiously. She smiled at him reassuringly.

"Don't worry," she murmured soothingly. "We'll fulfill this mission, whatever it takes."

"I don't care about the mission," he hissed, eyes dark. "I care about you. How are you gonna be okay with these people? How can you be so calm about this?"

She shrugged, "I don't want to stress myself out before everything starts. I can do that later." He nodded and forced himself to relax. Quietly she slipped out the door. Gazing forlornly at the now bare room, Katie knew she would not return.

"Goodbye and good luck," she whispered to the air, walking away. Outside, others were waiting. She sighed again, settling against the wall. Katie drank in the night air. "Soon now, whatever this is, it will all truly begin."

Silently pacing away from the storage room, Samuel reflected on his options. An entirely new faction, made up by him and all of the other teens. Why had he been chosen? He'd liked to ask the General, but he had never gotten himself to speak, afraid that he would make a fool of himself and lose the offer. "Hecate, I'm not really sure if I'm ready for this", he said to the bird strutting at his side. For some reason she seemed all confident- Samuel had often seen that triumphant smile during their years togethet, but it was as though she had just won an estate at a school bazaar.

She nugded him with her black and red wing in response. "Rubbish, Samuel", she replied. "We'll do just fine". Samuel did not find the words all comforting. He fidgeted with his hat and smoothed out invisible folds in his dress. "But what- what if they don't trust us? Thanks to my beloved father, no one seems to trust us no matter where we go".

"Then why aren't you happy we'll finally get the chance to restore the status of the Pinefield name? If we do this special misson well, no one will ever think of your fathers mafia-scheming again!"

Samuel frowned. What she said was true enough. It all depended on the Soul Fighters abillity to coordinate and stick together. He simply said "Let's go pack, Hecate!" and qiuckened his pace.

***LATER***

Samuel silently made his way out of the school, a bag in his hand. For the occasion he had dressed in the darkest shade of grey he had, and the feather that adorned his hat had been replaced with one of deep blood-red. Hecate circled in the air above him, having spent the entire day grooming her feathers. The moonslight was absorbed by her dark coat of feathers and made her lick look like a shiny vulture. Samuel caught sight of some of the others waiting and quickly walked over to him. Once again the Honchkrow landed in front of him, ready to defend her friend from all offensive remarks.

"We're almost there, Mims." Kylie looked down at her soulmon walking beside her. The moon shone down on her, making her fur shine. On her back she carried a small nap sack, filled with only the essentials they would need in order to survive this ordeal. Kylie carried a bigger bag on her back, also filled with only the items of most importance. She wore dark clothing, consisting of black pants and a long black sweatshirt, which protected her from the cold at the same time as concealing her the best she possibly could be. However, even though she was protected from the chill of the night she was still shaking a little on the outside.

You ok, Kylie? Mimi asked, looking up at her partner with bright eyes that shone in the moonlight. Her breath could be seen coming out in little translucent puffs as she spoke in her hushed tone.

Kylie glanced down at the Raichu and smiled. "Of course I'm fine! I'm just a bit excited, that's all."

Mimi smiled back. Yeah, me too! And nervous.

Kylie nodded in agreement. Looking up at the star filled sky, she spoke quietly. "But we shouldn't worry too much. I'm sure everything'll be ok. For now, we must focus on ending this war. And trust me, if the General is telling the truth about this ending the war for good, then you bet I'm going to do everything I possibly can do to get those plates."

Same here. Mimi agreed.

Eventually, they had reached the North gate. Waiting there already was Sera and Robert and both of their soulmons. "Hey guys." Kylie and Mimi greeted the group as they walked up next to them and stood there. Quietly, they awaited the other team member's arrivals.

Robert turned as he heard a voice. It was a girl named Kylie.
"Hey," Robert mumbled. He was scared, but he didn't want to admit it. "So, what do-" he said pausing. "What do you guys think is going to happen next? Once we leave the Safe Zone, things are going to be so much tougher."
He stopped and and looked outside at the dark sky. He began to shiver at the thought of leaving.
"It won't be so bad," Polo said in a comforting tone. She put her arm on Robert's shoulder.

Sera watched everyone as they appeared at the north gate. She looked upon the scene tensly, watching as they either talked to others or their Soulmons. She also watched their faces. Some seemed nervouls while other seemed confused. Not that she blammed them. Sera felt those things herself. She just didn't know where this mission was going to take any of them.

It was while she was musing this that the general and his Garchomp once again appeared before everyone. Mc Murfree lookd at all of the students gathered before saying, "Now, I want you all to know that you are the best of the best. If you were anything left then you would have not even been considered to be a part of the Soul Fighters. Now, this mission will not be easy. It may take you quite a few years in order to finish. I would be surprised if al you came back alive. Or even came back at all. But, I do not have a doubt that you will be able to complete this. You all have my confidence."

Mc Murfree then walked up to everyone and gave them each a medal. "This is the medal I told you about eariler. Anyone who sees it must help you. But know to use it wisely." When he had finished doing that, he took a step back and waved up ahead. There was aloud 'clank' and the north gate doors started to open. "Good luck, and may the One watch over you." He saluted once last time before turning around and walking away.

Sera and Saraph also saluted before turning to the north gate. Once the doors were fully open, they picked up their bags and left the Safe Zone of Oxfield, into the waring world ahead.

Robert gazed at his medal as Mc Murfee handed it to him. He really felt like a Soul Fighter now. Robert jumped as he heard a loud noise. The North Gate was open. It was time to leave Oxfield. The General saluted.
"Good luck, and may the One watch over you," he said to everyone before turning away.
Robert and Polo saluted and then turned. Robert caught his bag and threw it over one shoulder. He took a deep breath.
"Like the General said, this may be the last time we see everyone alive."
He looked around at his comrades.
"Well, I guess we should go," said Polo.
With that, the two friends left the Safe Zone and headed out to a world where anything could happen. Robert turned back and took one last look at Oxfield before disappearing into the darkness.

"I don't see anyone" Meredith said to Camden.

Of course you don't. He responded, you led us to the wrong gate dummy! See the sign? We're at the western gate, we're probably late by now.

"So how are we going to get there in time?"

Well... There's something I'd like to try

"No! Do you remember what happened last time?"

Yeah yeah, but I've been practicing and i have gotten better at it!

"All right... but I don't think I'll ever feel comfortable doing it."

Camden was of course talking about flying to the north gate with Meredith on his back. But the last time they tried to do something like this, they ended up crashing into the governors house and destroying his personal office. They got in so much trouble that they had to do community service for a week.

Meredith climbed onto Camden's back with ease and nervously looked around for something to grab hold of.

"Um.. Cam? What do I--"

Here we go! Camden leapt off of the ground and shuddered through the air. Meredith flung her arms around his neck and held on for her dear life. Camden was flying just above the tops of a few trees. Meredith relaxed a little as she felt Camden flapping his wings less often and more stable than her last experience on him.

They neared the North gate when Meredith had a horrible thought.

"Um Cam? How do you land?"

Easy, i just land glide to the ground, flap a couple times, and drop to the ground. And as a sort of demonstration, he glided quickly to the ground.

Meredith panicked when she saw that they were going to crash into a wall.

"Camden! What are you doing!?"

When I say go, I want you to jump off and roll! Camden shuddered and Meredith did not have a chance to jump, she slid off his back and landed in a bush while he flew straight into the brick wall separating Oxford from the outside world.

Everyone who was already there started laughing at them. Meredith struggled out of the bush and tried to dig Camden out of the pile of bricks that had toppled all over him. "Are you serious people? Help me!"

Alicia gazed at the medal clutched in her hand. Somehow, it cast a soft, peaceful aura. She took a deep breath, feeling the not unpleasantly cold, smooth medal against her skin.

Aili stood on his hind legs, his front paws scrabbling Alicia's arm as he fought for balance. He nuzzled his way into her hand and sniffed the medal. What is it made of? he asked curiously.

She shrugged. "Don't know. Platinum, probably. Or iron. That's what most of the badges of rank or section identification are made of, right?"

Yes, but this smells slightly different. He pushed his muzzle further into her hand. It feels a bit strange too. I can feel a faint, pulsing aura in there.

"Pulse?" Alicia said, alarmed.

Yes.

"Are you sure?"

Aili wrinkled his nose. Very sure. It's extremely faint, but distinct. It's strange, though. When I touch it the tip of my nose becomes very slightly warm. But so slightly that I can't tell whether it's because of the medal or of my nose overheating. Though I hope it isn't the latter.

Alicia frowned. "I can't feel anything."

As Aili prepared to jump up her arm to get a closer look at the medal, she dropped it onto the ground, deciding that she prefered not being between her intrigued Soulmon and the medal. He ignored this, continuing to examine the object in question as he repeatitively ran his muzzle across its metal surface.

Just then, a large something flew by, crashing into the wall near where she was standing. The wall exploded in thousands of flying bricks, dusy smoke rising up in the air, hiding the dark sky of the night and the lustrous glow of the moon. Alicia coughed, one eye closed, holding her elbow in front of her as she advanced towards the avalanche of bricks. There was a huge, dark lump lying on the heap, presumably unconscious. Another smaller, shorter figure suddenly heaved itself up from behind a bush, coughing as well. It sounded like a female voice.

Probably another Soul Fighter, Alicia thought. She thought she heard people laughing behind her as well, but she ignored them.

"You idiot," she growled. "You just woke the whole campus. Now how are we supposed to escape without anyone noticing?!"

"I don't think he woke up the whole campus," Mc Murfree said, though he frowned. "Still...it would probably be best if you left...right now."

"Yes sir!" Sera said as she once again saluted the general before turning around and starting to walk away. Saraph also saluted the very well known general before he quickly followed his partner outside of the SZ. Once they were a few yards out, the blue Charizard looked behind him once more before turning to Sera.

"So, nervous at all?" Saraph asked with a smirk.

"No, why would you ask?" Sera grunted. "We're only going on a very important mission that could decide on everyone's future. Said mission that will more then likily get us killed or worse. Not to mention that we could also escilate this war to new hights! How would you feel?"

"Very, very nervous," Saraph said with a chuckle. "But hey, we're going to get through this, I know we will. We just have to believe in each other and-"

"Oh would you cut that out," Sera muttered. "I'm not in the mood to hear that kind of stuff."

"Okay, whatever," Saraph said with a shrug. "You want to keep you gloom and doom attitude and think that we're going to fail and die, then fine by me. I, personally, would like to keep at least some hope that we'll be living long lives after this." Sera didn't say anything and the silence lasted for a while between the two.

Katie was torn between laughter and faint irritation. She settled for neither and ran to help Meredith. Raion loped beside her, struggling to contain his own amusement.

Awful rude today aren't you? she chided lightly, starting to dig.

Raion shrugged and climbed gently onto the fallen Dragonite. You thought it was funny too. He started tossing bricks to the ground.

Yes but you're the one out of us who's more likely to make fun of the poor Soulmon. He huffed, rolling his eyes. Raion threw the brick at her head, which she caught expertly.

Don't be such a spoilsport. I'm surprised you're not angry for them for giving us away. Katie glanced toward the others, who were still laughing, except for Alicia. Her glare looked like it could shatter glass. Her Soulmon looked amused.

I'm just wondering why these guys aren't hiding when we could have the entire base on our heads any second. With a quiet sigh, she plopped a few bricks in the pile they were making.

Well, why aren't we?

She smirked slightly.First rule of teamwork: never abandon your comrades.

Maybe that's what they're doing.

Hopefully.

Excitement pulsed through Kylie as the General handed her the medal.

You ready? Mimi said, equally stoked.

Before Kylie replied, a loud crash sounded as the brick wall in front of them exploded into pieces. She ducked just in time to miss a brick flying at her head. Once she looked up again she saw through the dust and debris what looked to be on of the chosen ones. She was one the ground, and Kylie assumed she had been the one who hit into the wall, causing it to break.

Kylie's expression turned to that of concern. She looked down at her soulmon, who was currently trying her hardest just to hold her laughter in. She had to admit, the situation did sound pretty amusing, but her thoughts were on the comrade who had caused it, who might possibly be seriously injured.

Kylie walked briskly over to the stunned girl. Coughing from the dust, she looked through watery eyes at the scene, and saw that the girl was being helped up by another person. Once she got closer and the person got to her feet, she made out the figures of Katie and Meridith. "Hey, are you ok?" Kylie asked as she approached the two, her voice filled with concern. "That looked like it hurt. A lot..."
