Poke'mon: The Challenge

Shadow smiled. now that the Champions had left, he guessed it was time to get going. As he walked out of the pokemon center, he waved good bye to the nurse Joy. Shadow paused outside of the pokemon center and began to think. "Where would they hide? Most certainly not the most obvious places." So Snowpoint Gym and temple would be out. maybe the nearby forest?
He had heard that there were some pretty rare pokemon in there. so he could kill two birds with one stone. he would find a champion, and a rare pokemon. Shadow smiled as he walked into the forest.

"You did good." Kenneth walked over to Luxray and began petting her firm blue fur. She purred to show her affection. Ken noticed a few wounds which he healed within seconds. After using his potions, he decided to stock up on inventory. Ken looked up at Kirkiri and spoke to her. "You did good too. Maybe we should battle some other time. I'll look forward to it." He stood up and walked towards the pokemart. His thoughts circles around the battle. As it normally did after a battle. Then he remembered about the challenge and ran off to the pokemart.

Rayna trotted happily in front of her trainer and teammate, nose lowered to the ground in an attempt to sniff out unusual scents. In a more familiar place she would have much more success, but she truly had no idea where she was going, what she was doing, or what was what. At first Fyora had been watching the horizon, keeping one eye on Rayna, but now she focused entirely on her tiger-striped pattern, deep in thought. Not only was she completely lost in a completely new place, but she felt as though there had been a mistake. Was it really right for her to be there? Was she worthy of the attention of the champions?

Worst of all, if she wasn't, she'd given up the chance to be with her family, her whole family, for the first time in several years. 'This had better be worth it,' she thought solemnly. Just as she did pain exploded from her torso up to her forehead. Rayna had been keeping up a blistering pace, and as a result Fyora had been as well in an effort to keep up. But she should have been watching the path ahead of her. Rayna may be small enough to fit between the mass of trees that had stopped Fyora dead in her tracks, but she was not.

"That was a stupid mistake," she grumbled, confidence plummeting. Razor hissed angrily at Rayna for leading his master into such a problem. She barked back, teeth bared. Before a confrontation occurred Fyora recalled the Growlithe into her ball. "I guess we need a new approach."

Razor considered her words, then hopped off her shoulder, going at a measured pace back to the Center. At first she thought he was taking there so that she would quit and go home. His patience had never been high and it was likely that he was already sick of the entire ordeal. But then he went around it, leading her to the heart of the city, where the gym was located.

"Razor, we're not battling the gym here," she reminded him. He chattered back at her, disgruntled. Of course he knew that. He wasn't stupid. He then led her straight to the west of the gym, to another wall of trees. Instead of leading her straight into them, however, he slipped through a gap between them. Fyora inched closer and discovered the gap was large enough for her too, if she wiggled a lot, so she did. After a bit of a struggle she was in the clearing with Razor, looking around confusedly. "What now?"

And i'll win next time... Kirkiri thought as the guy she had just fought left. Petra was tugging on Kir's sweatshirt, trying to get her to hurry up. On her next fight, she would have to be more careful. "Petra, stop rushing me. We need to figure out a way to get Gala to the pokemon center. Its not like we can just carry him you know." she said, looking over at Petra. This wasnt going to be easy, and it wasnt like she had any pokemon that were bigger then Gala. It was almost impossible to get Gala from where he was to the pokemon center. Now that she thought wbout it, it pretty much was impossible. She looked as Petra tried to drag Gala by the tail, but failed miserably. It wasnt like she could just put Gala inside of a Pokeball and bring him there that way. Gala had never been inside of a pokeball before.

How am I going to do this...?

Shadow sighed. He had been in the forest for a while now and he still had nothing to show for it. As he tripped over a rock again, a small bit of annoyance crept into his voice. "Gaaah where are they?" He wasn't just talking about the champions. He hadnt seen a single pokemon yet. "Come on out Blooney." Shadow threw Blooney's pokeball into the air and the drifloon appeared in a flash of light. Shadow held out a poketreat and said "Hey Bloloney if you can find anything in this area i'll give you a Poketreat!" As Shadow said this, a pokemon ran out from the underbrush and tackled his hand.

"Ow! Son of a- Yes!" Shadow stared down at the pokemon that now lay before him. The Swinub looked at him and said "Swi-swi-swinub!" Shadow turned to Blooney. "Blooney use wrap!" The small pokemon nodded and wrapped it's two long arms around the swinub with ease. "Now use Gust!" Blooney aimed his mouth at the Swinub and released a large blast of air. The Swinub cried out in pain and wriggled out of Blooney's grasp. It shot a large beam of ice directly at Blooney. "Dodge it!" Shadow yelled. The Drifloon began to move, but the edge of the ice beam caught Blooney's arm. Struggling to float, Blooney whimpered in pain as the ice slowly began creeping up her arm.

Shadow was struggling to make a decision when it happened. little blue balls of flame shot out of Blooney's mouth and began to float towards his arm, melting the ice as it floated. Shadow stared shocked. "Is that willowwisp?" As the swinub stared mesmerized at the scene above it, a plan began to form in Shadow's mind. He shouted with clarity and pride now. "Blooney use willowwisp then use wrap!" The Swinub tried to run when Blooney started coming towards it with the little blue balls of flame in front of her face, but it didnt make it. The poor Swinub was caught in Blooney's grasp, as it was burned from willowwisp. Using the final move, Shadow yelled "Now use gust!" A powerful stream of air burst from Blooney's mouth battering the swinub. Shadow readyed his last pokeball and threw it at Swinub.

3....2....1....Click!

"Yes!" shadow exclaimed "I just caught a Swinub!" he smiled at Blooney as he sprayed a potion on her arm and then returned her to her pokeball. he released the Swinub with a potion in hand. The Swinub looked around as if confused and then it looked at Shadow. "Swiii?" it asked. Shadow smiled. "By your high pitched voice, im going to guess you're a girl. Very well. your nickname from here on out shall be Squeel. Now, stay still." The small Swinub whimpered slightly when Shadow came near, but let out a huge sigh as the potion sprayed into her fur. Shadow dug a dried Oran berry out of his pack and handed it to her. "Here." he said. Squeel ate the berry satisfactorily and then Shadow returned her to the pokeball. He needed to restock. Since he knew no one was in the forest, he turned around and headed towards town to buy more potions and pokeballs.

Fyora glanced down and at her feet found a mid-sized wooden crate. "What's this?" she asked aloud, kneeling down to examine it. She brushed snow off of the top, only to find that there were no distinguishing marks, nor a place where it opened. Razor inched forward cautiously, sniffing the air. "Snea," he commented, gesturing at it. She nodded absentmindedly and picked it up in one hand to discover that it wasn't all that heavy. What to do with it, then?

She contemplated taking it back to the Center and showing a champion. This could perhaps be their quarry. But what if it wasn't? If she brought a wooden box back to Lance as if it were a prize surely he would laugh at her. Usually she wouldn't care, but this was Lance, Champion of the Johto region. It would be better to exercise caution.

Of course, that didn't mean she wasn't curious as to what was inside of it. Her mind made up, she gestured for Razor to come to her. He crawled over to the box, opposite her. "Razor, can you pry this open? Do it gently, we don't want to break it if its fragile."

He extended his claws and dug them into the space between one wooden panel and another, and began to wiggle them back and forth. After a bit of effort he managed to get one side completely loose. That was good enough. Fyora grabbed the panel and pulled, removing the top of the box.

Mariah was incredibly gald that Molly followed her, saving her several awkward moments. She was slightly relieved when Molly asked if she was alright. "Yeah, I'm fine...that happens a lot." she said, just loud enough for Molly to hear. Come ON Mariah, you can do better than that. Start acting like you know what's going on already. As Molly let out her Skarmory, Mariah figured another pair of eyes could only help. She let Wings from his Pokeball, and instucted him to fly up and look all around the city.

Oddish was practically glued to Wooper, now, chattering excitedly. Mariah was happy about this, and seeing how fast of friends they were, the thought of Rapidash sprang forward in her mind. She removed the incredibly warm Poke'ball from her pocket and it enlarged in her hand. She pressed the circular button and in a flash of red her best friend appeared. Her smile turned to a happy grin instantly.

As Takumi approached the Gym he saw the two trainers that had been battling. One of the trainers were still there, attending to her Luxray. He thought about asking for help but decided to pass on. Besides, she seemed like she had it under control.

When he made it to the Gym, he saw that one of Candace's gym trainers were there. He was standing by the door. Takumi decided to ask the trainer if he had seen Candace around.

"Hey, have you seen the gym leader lately?"

The Gym Trainer replies, "No, she left early this morning and we haven't seen her since. I'm not supposed to let anyone in." He doesn't flinch away from the door for even a second, though he pulls his coat tighter around him every few minutes.

The crate contained a pure white envelope, a shade so bright it almost blinded her. Fyora tilted her head slightly out of curiosity. What was in the envelope, she wondered? Was it any of her business? What if it was something personal to someone, and she'd happened to come upon it?

'If it was personal it shouldn't have been left here,' she decided, curiosity getting the better of her. Besides, what would it hurt? During the interval it took her to decide snow had begun to fall in the box, blending in with the envelope. She grumbled and brushed the powdery white with her hand until she felt paper. Her fingers closed around the envelope and she removed it from the box, slipped two fingers in the seal, and began to tear it open.

Molly watched in awe as the heat and warmth of the fire Pokemon Mariah had just released hit her in the face. The warmth sure was welcoming.
"Awesome Pokemon," Molly commented, her eyes still wide. "Is it a Rapidash?"

As Molly was still admiring Mariah's Pokemon, she didn't realise Raze had touched back down. He shook snow off his clawed toes. Tapping Molly on the shoulder, the girl swung round.

"Oh, Raze! That was quick," Molly crossed her arms, slightly oblivious to Sticky and Mariah's Oddish jumping about in the snow, chattering loudly to eachother. "Did 'ya find anything?"

With a gleam of his steel sharp wings, he turned his head, pointing in the direction of the Mart. Molly nodded her thanks to the Skarmory before returning him to his Pokeball without any disagreement from Raze.

"He must really hate the snow," Molly thought to herself before turning back to Mariah. Again Molly admired the fire type Pokemon Mariah had released.

"Seems like Raze found something, so when your flyer gets back we should check out anything they found," Molly said. She was eager to get going and hopefully solve this odd puzzle the Champions had arranged. "Sounds good?"

Mariah's smile rose as Molly recognized Flare. "Yeah. This is Flare. Flare!" The flaming Rapidash raced over to Mariah, almost knocking her over, again. She laughed though, and having known Flare for so long, she rubbed her neck without getting burned. "I figure she's one of the best Pokemon to have out here, since it's so cold out."

Mariah nodded excitedly to Molly's proposition. "Sure! Wings should be back any second now. He's a fast flyer." As she said this, she felt weight on her left shoulder. That would be Wings, she knew. "Alright! Did you find anything?" she asked. Wings nodded, and attempted to pull out som eof Mariah's hair. She shoved him off her shoulder and he flew towards the Pokemart. "Ah...they both pointed the same direction, so I guess that's where we'll go."

Takumi just stood there and looked at the trainer, as if looking at him would make him change his mind.

"Hey, I"m not supposed to let you in. Do you know what Candace would do if I did?" The trainer seemed to be getting annoyed.

"Well, fine," Takumi said. He turned around and walked away from the gym. What now? He was stuck again. He thought he'd been on to something, just to get lost once more.

He began to think about where he'd been to figure out somewhere else to go. He'd already been to the Temple, the Pokemon Center, the Snowpointe Gym. What was there left? He couldn't just barge into someone's house. Then, an advertisement on a nearby post caught his eye. The post said: ULTRA BALLS 20% OFF! Of course! He should try the Pokemart. He decided to head toward the Pokemart at once.

As Shadow came out of the forest, he saw a few of his teammates, or whatever they were, head towards the pokemart. He released Squeel with a flash of light. "Hey Squeel do you want a berry?" The swinub responded with a very high pitched "SWIIIIIIIIII!" Shadow nodded. "Okay Squeel, but we have to be very careful. we wouldn't want to fall in a pit of loose snow." Squeel stared at him curiously. "Swii?" she asked. Shadow crouched to her height. "Don't fall." Shadow scooped her into his arms and began jogging to the pokemart, with a renewed and quickened pace. Once again he wondered if it were coincidence that this many of his partners were headed for the pokemart. Then he realized that this must be where a champion was hiding. Shadow smiled. The others probably just wanted to restock. But he knew.

The Pokemart shopkeeper looked out the window and smiled. The four champions were all in this desolate town of Snowpoint, and one of them was ever in his back room. This was great! He snickered, but there was a customer in here - he quickly muffled the sound. He could finally have a say on that stupid league of theirs. Soon enough, he thought, the Indigo League would be gone for good. He couldn't keep that creeping smile from widening all over his face. Of course most trouble Blue would be able to avoid easily, but...this was different. In fact, Blue was already most likely coming closer to the room...

Takumi walked into the Pokemart. There were several people walking up and down the aisles. Some were looking at Pokeballs. There were some who were wondering if Pokemon clothes were sold. They flocked to the counter to ask the shopkeeper, who looking like he was in his own world. He looked kind of creepy. Takumi walked up and down the aisles and wanted for something else to happen or least for the shopkeeper to be free so that he could ask him. Finally, the shopkeeper finished answering everyone's questions. Takumi walked up to him.

"Hey, have some seen anyone, um, important, come in here?" The shopkeeper looked puzzled.

"What do you mean, important? Are you saying that I'm not important?"

"No, I mean, er... like an important person, not that you aren't important but er..." He didn't want to tell the innkeeper that he was here for a secret contest and that he was looking for the League Champions. He waited for the shopkeeper to answer...

OOC: Wow. That was a totally perfect line for the shopkeeper.

IC:

"So you really don't think I'm important! You're so rude. Why are teenagers so rude these days? You know I really oughtta - customer Johnny, customer!! Well, kid, you didn't here this from me, but..." the shopkeeper snickered inwardly. If only he could eliminate all teenagers, not just this one, as he dealt with Blue. "I've got one of the League Champions in the back room" he whispered. As he rose his voice back to a normal tone, he continued, "And how many super potions did you want with your two hundred Great Balls? A thousand?" He grinned. Information is expensive, kid. Hahaha.

Shadow saw Takumi enter the pokemart, and he picked up the pace, hoping there wasn't a huge line inside. He put squeel away right before he entered. Shadow grabbed the potions he needed, and went looking for the pokeballs when he heard Takumi ask if there were any 'Important' people in the pokemart. Shadow slowly eased closer, hoping for more information. He heard the shopkeeper tell him he was important, and then he told him an interesting tidbit. A league champion was in the back room! Shadow smiled. He knew it! Shadow backed out of the line and went behind a shelf where niether Takumi nor the shopkeeper could see him. He grabbed one of his pokeballs off of his belt and released the pokemon inside. "FLOOO-" Shadow cut the drifloon off right there. He motioned for her to be quiet with his hands. He began talking to her, his voice barely above a whisper. "Hey Blooney, remember the League champions in the pokemon center? Well I think one of them is in the back room. Will you go check?" The drifloon nodded and turned transparent, floating through shelves and walls to the back room. Shadow hoped she wouldn't be discovered.

Takumi was puzzled. Was this shopkeeper out of his mind? What did mean, expensive? He just turned his back, shrugged his shoulder and walked off. I don't think I like his tone, he thought to himself. I mean, he had just been chewed out by a shopkeeper? What was up with that? Then he turned back around.

"I tell you what," he attempted to strike a deal. "I'll buy one 5 great balls and 5 super potions. Deal?" The guy had just helped him so he had to help him in return by giving this him a little of his business.
