This isn't a debate thread, but rather a description of a game my fiance and I created together. He plays YGO competitively, but as much as I love him, I never really got into it, preferring to stick with Pokemon. This lovely little compromise came up after we both had a little too much beer or something- I don't quite remember how it spawned, but it's all in fun so it doesn't really matter. We did our best to try and make a balanced, easy to understand game. We failed. If you feel this should be moved to General Entertainment, I can understand.
To play this game, one player must have a Pokemon deck and the other needs a YGO deck, obviously. The game begins as normal, with the YGO player drawing five cards and the Pokemon player seven. If the Pokemon player does not have any basic Pokemon, the YGO player has the option of drawing extra cards, but must discard at the end of the first turn if it exceeds six. Play continues as normal (or as normal as it can be anyway) for both players, with the following rules in effect:
- Pokemon's HP and damage values are multiplied by twenty when considered against YGO attack and defense points. YGO monsters' attack and defense values are divided by ten when attacking Pokemon as well.
- The YGO player can only target the active Pokemon, but since multiple monsters can attack in one battle phase, if the active Pokemon is knocked out, the Pokemon player must replace it, allowing multiple to be defeated in one turn. If the Pokemon player's last Pokemon is defeated, he or she loses as normal.
- The Pokemon player has no life points, and cannot receive damage from monsters or magic/ trap cards. The Pokemon player can make a direct attack with his or her active Pokemon if the YGO player does not have any monsters on the field.
- The Pokemon player takes a prize after each defeated monster- after six are taken the Pokemon player wins. Monsters offered as Tributes do not count.
- YGO card's effects that destroy all monsters on the field affect the Pokemon player's bench, but not the active Pokemon. The active Pokemon can be destroyed instantly by single target effects, but only if there is a benched Pokemon to replace it.
- YGO monsters "heal" after a battle phase as they would normally. Pokemon do not, and receive damage counters as usual.
There were a few other rules too, but I don't remember them right now since it's so late (I will put them up if I do). Anyway, I'm aware that this game is horridly flawed and yes it is very stupid, but hey, it only exists for fun. It's also quite possible to build decks for both games specifically tailored to combat the other. What do you guys think? Could this actually work? :7:
