OK so I just finished reading RS and I'm in the middle of FR/LG, so in the ending of RS did Celebi send Ruby into an alternate dimension or change variables in the Space-Time continuum. It's also amazing how the author could streamline the fact that the Red and Blue orbs are advanced forms of the Ruby and Sapphire gems respectively.

And also how come Ruby gets what he wants while Pryce is sent flying around the Space-Time Continuum. (Which could get Dialga and Palkia mad)

To my understanding, Celebi used the power of the Red and Blue Orbs to turn back time on Steven, Norman and Marge, thus bringing them back to life and destroying part of the Orbs along with it, creating the Ruby and Sapphire stones Giovanni used in the FR/LG Arc.

RS ending is always the best and touch. I'm nearly cried when I read that book.
Celebi followed Ruby because maybe Celebi already know the future so Celebi has to stick with Ruby.
And also, Johto and Hoenn are different timeline. When Red won the battle of the match (RBG Ending), Ruby and Sapphire are only about 4 to 6. Ruby said "I heard Dad said in Kanto, there's a strong trainer" and he's meaning Red.
So Ruby might caught Celebi when Pryce released Celebi.

There is about a year between GSC to RS, so he caught it little after that.

Ruby and sapphire was 7 years old when Red won the battle of the match.
