I know there is a specific forum for GS/AR questions, but I believe this to be just plain Glitch related possibly.

So far, PokemonElite2000 hasn't been 100% helpful, neither has Gamefaqs nor nintnendo, but that hasn't suprised me. I'd try Serebii, but their forums are down sadly.

    So, here goes...

I recently purchased a used copy of Pokemon Ruby to help "catch em all" for my Pokedex. The game itself has the national dex, as well as some high ranking pokemon on it. THe previous player left his Rayquaza and Lati@s on the game to catch.

After I filled the trainer's eyes database, I traded between the games a few pokemon and TM's.

One of which was a Lvl 30 Hardy Kecleon nicknamed Sethleon (the original trainer's name was Seth)

Then, with my lvl 49 Wobbuffet, proceded to hunt the Lati@s.

When I found the pokemon, they did very little against my Wobuffet, but I sadly couldn't capture it with the Ultra balls I had on me. When the Lati@s finally KOed itself with struggle, the oddest thing happened.

I gained the experience points expected, but the battle wasn't over. The game then said:

    Pkmn Trainer sent out Sethleon!

And out came the exact pokemon, nickname, stats, moves and all that I had previously traded. I caught it with the masterball I had on me to be sure it was what I had traded.

To see if this was a glitch or not, I tested it again with trading back the Sethleon and the Wobuffet, and then trading the Wobuffet for Blaziken currently on the ruby game.

Once again, the same thing happened and I tested the following scenario:

This issue is repeatable, and a more interesting note:

If I kill the latios outright, the match is over. Nothing more.

The next time I repeated it, I found that the trainer had 5 pokemon on him, plus Latios. Upon further inspection, it appears that the first pokmeon in my party was replaced with Latios, while the rest of the party are exact duplicates down to the IV's and EV's.

If let the Latios Struggle, and kill the other party members he throws out, then the battle continues but I just OHKO the pokemon, or have shadowtag/arena trap out otherwise the pokemon flee just like Latios.

Does any one have two gameboys that they can test this with as well on their game as I want to be sure this is an AR hack (as I have scoured the game for any other oddity, in either trainer ID or pokedex entry and have found none.)

My great concern now, with some trades and items being exchanged on this game, is that if it was ARed or not, and if it was, can that corrupt the game data on a receiving game pack?

    Thank you for your time,

Hmmmm.... Well this question can be answered like this:

The game you bought was corrupted no doubt. If you bought if fro ma friend or the game was not brand new, then the person who previously owned it made major AR cheats and probably didn't do one right. The reason being, the game's coding keeps replaying yourself battling something. The Latios you found was actually a shadow Pokemon, not the real thing. It's the miscoding of something along the lines of Missingno, except that the coding might've put itself into a Latios mode, and once it KO's itself, the game repeats yourself battling another trainer, so actually, you're fighting the shadow of a AR.

That cheat site didn't help. I want to avoid AR and GS, not embrace them.

Okay, the results from vigerous testing is in.

When I trade to and from the Ruby and Saphire game packs, and then encounter Latios on the Ruby game, the following happens:

When I outright kill it, the game functions as normal.
When I outright catch it, the game functions as normal.
When I run away, the game functions as normal.
When it runs away, the game functions as normal.

When I Shadow Tag it, and keep it around until it struggles, whatever team I had on Saphire during the trade, except for the first pokemon in my lineup, makes a special guest appearance on the Ruby Game.

    When that happens:

If I keep Wobbuffet out, and kill the opposing team, I get experience points for each and the battle ends.

If I keep WObbuffet out, and catch any of the other pokemon, the battle ends, and it's an exact duplicate of my captured pokemon. Even the obediance bit is duplicated.

If I replace the Wobbuffet with any non trapping pokemon, then the pokemon currently out flees just like Latios.

When each of the three above happens, Area Unknown shows up on Latios as it should.

If someone could test this on their own as well, without Action Replay and repor the findings, it woudl be helfpul. Thanks.

I think that it's your game that's the problem, as Wobbuffet is commonly used to capture Lati@s, even at the same level and everything, so a problem like this would have been mentioned beforehand.

You say that the game was used, and you purchased it from a shop (I'm assuming). Does the shop have a dodgy reputation? Was the packaging top quality? Anything from the manufacturing process to the delivery process could have been mucked up. Although, like you said, it may be a hidden glitch that no one's found yet. Very strange indeed. :/

The game has a great reputation. I get all my used games from them, they always test them as thoroughly as they can, and their return polocy is either 30 or 90 days. I can't remember which, but I do know that I need to get it back in soon if I find it to be really glitched or if this is just a common glitch that nobodies found. My wife and I both caught our Lati@s with our masterballs, and I know of a few others who did. This was my first encounter with a legendary struggling to death, which was rather funny to be honest. = )

But if this is a common occurance, when done that way (trade, don't shut off game, then go chase down Lati@s, then let it struggle to death) then I want to be assured of it. I have a friend who may lend me his Saphire game on Monday, but his reliability is very limited.

    Thanks again,

    MagSynchro

If the game and store are not the problem, then it's a glitch. Try going to the store and asking if they can check the game for bugs and glitches. It's most likely that your game is following under a repeat coding and chaning it around, like what you did, alters it and the messed up coding turns to normal. That's all I can say. I'm very puzzled about your game.
