Question: Posting bug or am I just doing it wrong?

I was trying to create a thread in the New Users/Welcome area and tried to post this:

"Hey there PC!

I'm a newbie, as indicated by the sub-forum that I'm posting in and by the title of my thread. You can call me Pancake or Pancake-fong, but I do prefer Lady Yuri Mistress of the Entire Universe and Pancakes. (But I'll understand if you just call me Pancake or Pancake-fong as Lady Yuri Mistress of the Entire Universe and Pancakes is quite cumbersome to type and remember, *insert Silly smiley here*).

I look foward to getting to know my fellow Pokemon fans!"

When I kept getting an error message saying that I wasn't allowed to post links to other sites until I had 15 posts, even though I wasn't trying to link to another site. I decided to test something and just removed the smiley and instead tried:

This time around I managed to get it to post. Is this a bug or did I just fail at something? I don't think that smileys are supposed to count as links...

Well, I'm not sure if that's a bug, because I think smilies are the only image that you can post. :\

Smilies count as images, therefore you cannot post them if you have less than fifteen posts. :/

Oh, okay. That makes sense. I guess I was just confused by the error message was just saying links to other sites.

Yeah, no links or images will be shown in posts before 15 posts, but images and links will show in signatures before 15 posts.
