If it would be possible to implement a filter in the Game Development forum that would stop posts from containing the word "hack", that'd be great.
Something simple; if the filter picks up that word, it comes back to the post edit screen with a clearly visible message reading something along the lines of: "Be aware that this is the Game Development section for games made from scratch. For romhacks, please go here." Placing in links at the appropriate areas would be obvious.

Anything along those lines would be awesome. Thank you.

From what I see, you're trying to stop users from posting the word 'hack' anywhere in Game Development. But what about those users who tries to explain what the difference between a hack and a game is? I see this a lot, especially on first posts. And without the use of the word 'hack', it wouldn't make much sense.

Besides, filtering the word 'hack' itself isn't really much of a solution, if anything.

It doesn't make any changes , they would still use words like h4ck or whatsoever.

Besides the post above that states that it could be used to explain stuff... False positives. Hack has a lot of different meanings. What if someone was really trying to say "hack" in the context of hacking a tree down? Or any other meanings? There's a reason such a word filter should not be implemented.

It doesn't make any changes , they would still use words like h4ck or whatsoever.
... Why would they, though? The purpose of the filter would be to let them know that they're in the wrong section or that they used to wrong word.

As to the other points raised, I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to filter it once so that it lets you know, and then allows you to post if you attempt a second time. Kind of like an "Are you sure that's the word you meant?" sort of thing.

I just find it extremely annoying that in the majority of threads in the Game Development showcases, there's posts at least every second page about how the hack looks great and what emulator you need and so on, and this means that there are up to two more posts telling the person that no, it isn't a hack and that it's made with whatever program.

I'm asking if there's some way this sort of thing can be avoided other than by expecting the majority of users who are too ignorant (I'm sorry, but there's no other word for it) to pay attention to which board is which.

I don't see the problem in letting the mods do the filtering job, to be honest. All wrong threads can be easily closed (along with a note so the member know what's going on), and no false positives.

That's really overzealous in what it posts it would actually flag.

And it would piss off everyone trying to use the word in a legitimate manner.

I like this idea, but not the way it was suggested. If there was something added that scanned threads created in Game Development for the word hack, and then had a message stating that if they're posting a ROM hack, that Game Development isn't the proper forum.

Since hack has multiple meanings, I wouldn't think it would be all too safe to filter threads with the word hack (even in Game Development alone) would be too wise. If they were still able to post the thread, then that'd be much better!

"We noticed that your thread contains the word 'hack' in the content. Please be aware that this forum is for games developed in entirely from scratch, rather than a ROM hack. If you're posting a ROM hack, please click here (link will bring you to a new window/tab). If not, please close this message." And then when they close the message, they'll be directed to the thread preview or the posted thread.
