    Hello everyone :)

    -edit-

So I had an idea to have a gaming channel where I talk about old school yard rumors we all heard about video games. I have a whole bunch, some crazier than others. While I was thinking of some of the rumors I heard as a kid, Professor Oak's Funeral popped into my head. It was a rumor that if you beat the Elite four 100 times or something like that, you will unlock professor Oak's Funeral and after that, you can get Celebi. I heard a little different of a version, but the problem is, I've searched the internet far and wide, and I can't find anything about this rumor! At first I thought maybe it was just a rumor between me and my friends, except I was able to find 2 archived forum posts where 2 other people reference Professor Oak's funeral.

Does anyone else have any other information about this old rumor?

Sorry, I've never heard of this rumour :(

Somebody here will probably know something!

I've been playing for years and I've never heard anything of the sorts. Even did a Google search and the only thing that comes up is this thread. Sounds like something that would come from the earlier generations of Pokemon.

yeah you can unlock oak's funeral in pokemon colosseum and also the original japanese pokemon green version only

in colosseum there is no e4 or professor oak, so you have to use an action replay along with the e-reader and do some crazy crap, but it is possible. i haven't played in a long time, so i'm not too sure

but in green this is possible for certain. maybe you guys are wondering "what are you talking about? celebi is gen 2 and green is gen 1!" yes it is true. this wasn't possible before, but after this speedrun of pokemon gold, somehow the glitch and the fact that so many people were watching caused some weird quantum time thing to happen, making celebi's code move from that copy of pokemon gold to every copy of pokemon green in existence in an infinitesimally small amount of time (don't ask why, it can time travel). this is why celebi is in all pokemon green versions. you should also learn japanese because pokemon green is, as mentioned before, in japanese. so now you can defeat the elite four and trigger oak's funeral...but you can't yet! oak is still alive, so how can you have a funeral for someone who is still alive? you must find a way to dead him first. one method is to break your cartridge, because that will kill professor oak, but it also kills your game and you don't want that. the only other known method is to get 6 rhyhorn (levels 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) and name them "die", "prof", "oak", "please", "delete", "yourself" (but obviously in japanese since it's a japanese game) and order them in that order (or the order that makes sense in japanese grammar, i wouldn't know because i'm not a weeb). after talking to professor oak, he will delete himself from the game meaning he is now dead. i think his code gets deleted, but his sprite gets replaced with a tombstone tile from pokemon tower. note that you have to do this after the 99th battle with the e4, or you have to start over again. if you do it before you beat the e4 99 times (meaning oak is dead before your 99th battle with your rival), your rival is still too cocky to realize that his grandpa is dead and won't care about performing a funeral for him (of course, it costs a lot of money to do so!) so you have to kill oak before you challenge the e4 for the 100th time. this time when you beat your rival, he will be humbled, because he respects the number 100. when he realizes his grandfather is dead he says "oh no, i must perform a funeral for him, because he was such a good grandfather to me" (of course in japanese). then the funeral will happen instead of the end credits, and celebi will appear when you start your game again.

    tl;dr

All jokes aside, to the OP, I don't really think the Professor Oak's Funeral was ever much of a rumor. The only references of it are that in PokeCommunity. Which would be this thread, and an archived thread. It is unlikely all traces of this rumor would be removed from the ENTIRE Internet. The word funeral doesn't even appear on Professor Oak's Wiki pages. Maybe you were dreaming and remembered the theory you composed in your dream? There were a few articles about how people were ruining funerals by playing Pokemon Go. Maybe your subconscious mind was thinking about that and formulated that into a made-up rumor? Other than that.. This doesn't really seem to exist.

I can confirm this is true. Also if you fight the elite four 1000 times then go to the top of the Pokemon tower in Lavender town, you can battle professor Oak's ghost.
