As a tip maker and participant of the other three alpha fan chapters, in the shadow of Christom, I would like to present the Johto chapter of project alpha fan

What is it?
An attempt to get Pokecommunity into the Guinness Book of World Records. We're going to do this by setting a record for a speed run in every generation. This is the thread for the GSC versions, the HGSS alpha fan will be made later, as this is for the originals
What you do
You sign up here, and then can do a couple of things to help. You can attempt to get a fast time for one of the games. You can post tips and tricks to make it easier for those who are trying to get fast times (such as areas to skip, certain trainers to avoid, stuff like this), or you can post ideas for teams for those who are doing runs.

May I give a hearty thank you? This is in fact what I would have wanted more than the original Project Alpha Fan. I am a big fan of G/S/C, but I chose R/B/Y due to the fact that it was the only record I knew, and that more experienced players would like it more. But I thank you for creating this thread.

I do suggest that you figure out what the record is, as well as footage. Try searching the words "Pokemon Gold Speedrun". It should turn up. I also suggest that you all plan out the maps and calculate the rate of encounters. Due to the gameplay features of the 2nd generation games, the encounter rate varies in a way that is meant to allow more enjoyable grinding time, though this may cause problems for you. It seems that the game knows if you want to find Pokemon by a simple formula. If you walk in zigzags, the odds increase. If you walk in a straight line, they decrease. This was also carried one into R/S/E, but discontinued in the other games.

You should also plan what times of day you will play. For example, if you want a Zubat early on you would save a large portion of time by simply going on Route 32 at night. On the other hand, if you want a Mareep you should go on Route 32 during the Morning.

Strategically speaking, your best bet would be to get Totodile, a Gastly from Sprout Tower, and a Growlithe from Route 35. This way (if done correctly) you will be able to have a team with the following:

Totodile

Surf

Bite

Blizzard

Iron Tail

Gastly

Thunder

Shadow Ball

Night Shade

Hypnosis

Growlithe

Dig

Flame Wheel

Rock Smash

Bite

This team alone will be able to get you past Bugsy(Flame Wheel), Falkner(Thunder), Whitney(Dig/Rock Smash), Morty(Bite), Jasmine(Flame Wheel/Surf), Pryce(Flame Wheel/Thunder), Clair(Blizzard), and most of the Elite 4 if you are wise enough. This is merely a suggestion, so by all means try different methods.
