Project PS; The Pokemon shifter case, part 1:

Coran grabbed her bag from the hall. "What baggage... We've only got one rucksack between us!"
She paused, rubbing her temple. "We'll have to buy new clothes, too. If we're wanted... our outfits will be too much of a giveaway." Coran was secretly quite looking forward to that. She was a typical girl in the fact that she liked trailing around shops and admiring herself in mirrors.

She wandered after Teioh, leaving Rave in a huff at the legs of her chair. The house was impressive, but messy. There was so much paper everywhere, too! Notes, and diagrams... Coran didn't dare touch any of it. As for the dirty plates... well, she'd be more than happy to wash them the instant she was introduced to her good friend the sink.

{ooc| I'm going out on a limb here and inventing Rhaine's house as I go ^^;}

OOC: Really? An idea with Roberts, the character I made up in about two seconds? Though it was quite fun to steal his shirt to escape the LG base. ^^ Honestly, I'd welcome anything you've got Alter.

Mara & Squirt
-----------------------

"I smell a shopping spree!" Mara called out enthusiastically; Coran was not the only one that liked shopping, Mara was just more outspoken about it. "You can never have too many clothes. Hey, Squirt you get to come with us too and experience the awesomeness of searching for the perfect shirt," she added, trying to picture the blue-haired girl with them.

"Yeah, uh thanks for the offer. Though I've been shopping with you before Mara. I just wasn't human," Squirt said, trying to feel a bit happier. She wanted so much to just forget what she had been thinking, and she supposed that helping to clean up Rhaine's house was the perfect way.

They were shuffling through everything from papers to hidden objects like old telephones that Mara was sure must have been sitting there for a year. Some things were obviously new or recently used, but others were so dusty that they had the appearance of being ancient.

{I think that this place needs more people than us to clean it,} Growlithe said in a flat tone, staring around at all the mess, {I stepped on something wet and squishy back there. Smells like a pastry of some sort.}

OOC: Yup, really. I kind of alluded to what I had in mind at one point waaay back. Heh, Roberts is going to have a little chat with his bosses. I've been waiting for a chance to put those two back into the game anyway. They are such a lovely duo. Which I incidentally thought up in about two minutes too. XD Oh, and maybe you ought to give Seth a cue once in a while? I don't feel like I can portray the guy probably, usually happens when dealing with others' characters.

IC:

Teioh grinned at Coran's and Mara's enthusiaism about buying new clothes, wondering if there wasn't maybe just a little bit more involved in it than necessity. He had never really understood the intriciaties of fashion decisions himself, just going for something simple and usefull that didn't clash too badly with his own colours, usually little more than a black t-shirt and a pair of dark blue jeans. Working as Rhaine's lab assistant, Teioh was quite used to the idea that anything even vaguely fashionable would begin to look utterly blasted after a week or two anyway. It was better to take clothes that could stand the wear and tear, or failing that, were easy to replace.

Showing the way to the guest room wasn't really such a big deal, it was just a simple matter of heading back into the entry room and then heading up the staircase, although one had to mind the fifth step, counted from the foot of the stairs, as the board had a nasty tendency to wobble) and then taking the first door to the left and what luggage they had was quickly deposited. The room itself wasn't that spectacular and actually seemed fairly well organized, three beds, somewhat old fashioned but servicable, were arranged by the walls of the room, two by the right-hand wall and one, slightly larger than the others, by the left-hand one. The wall opposite to the door had a fairly sizeable window set into it, a wooden desk and chair located right by it so that whoever sat down to write there could do so in the sunlight, although of course the curtains were drawn, upon the desk a small lamp for night-time needs had also been located. Overall, the room looked far cleaner and more organized than the rest of Rhaine's house, although there was a slight covering of dust on the furniture. Apparently the room hadn't seen use in quite some time.

Next came of course the usual shuffling and poking about that soon-to-be cleaning staff went through, including the discovery of various objects that had been left undisturbed under piles of paper for untold amounts of time, probably simply forgotten.

{Nonsense...} Teioh said at Growlithe's comment, shaking his head {I managed to keep this place in a fairly tidy order with only Pixie for help.} Emphasis being on fairly he added in his mind {I'm sure it's not as bad as it seems.}

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile at the LG Inc. headquarters in Balautenos City, more specifically at the executives' floor, the sizeable, not to mention nervous, figure of Roberts knocked on the door of the office bearing a plaque which read "Arikawa & Harimoto, Senior Executives".

"Come in..." came a icily polite voice from the other side.

"Pray enter..." said another, practically identical to the first. Somehow the words respelled themselves within the guardsman's head, sounding, in his mind, like "Prey, enter."

Inside of the office, all the lights seemed to have been dimmed except for an almost blindingly bright white lamp situated straight behind a large, and very expensive, wooden desk, causing the two men sitting in the luxurious armchairs behind them to seem like little more than black silhouettes and causing what little difference there was between them to dissipate altogether.

"Ahh, mr. Roberts." the figure on the left said.

"We have been expecting you." the right-hand one noted.

"Please come in." said the man on the left

"Have a seat." the right-hand one prompted, gesturing towards a somewhat plainer looking chair located on the other side of the desk.

Roberts muttered a nervous response in return, dutifully waddling over to the chair and sitting down on it, his hunched shoulders causing his formidable frame to seem quite pathetic, like a punctured spare tyre slowly flattening, he knew that this wasn't going to be a pleasant meeting. After all, why else would they have summoned him if not to explain the escape of a certain shifter and her cellmate?

"You seem a little tense." the man on the right said, his black shades covering what little emotion might have otherwise had, although Roberts had the distinct expression that he was smiling, or at least, attempting to.

"Indeed, there is no call for such." the left-hand man said, tutting dissaprovingly.

"Perhaps you're thirsty?" asked the one on the right, obviously taking note of Roberts' profuse sweating.

"Erm...I'm fine sir." he muttered quietly, returning his gaze to his feet and wishing that the darnable lamp wasn't so bright.

"Nonsense." the left man said.

"It's a hot day." said the right-hand figure.

"We could all use some refreshments." the left one noted, and before Roberts had any chance to voice a protest he had already snapped his fingers, a low-level grunt in LG uniform walking over, carrying a tray with three glasses, two made of crystal and one made of glass, and three bottles of LG inc. mineral water and carefully placing them on the table. Pouring out a glassfull of liquid to each from their respective bottles and handing the glasses over to them, Roberts fumbling slightly and hoping that the glass wouldn't slip from his sweaty fingers as he held onto it.

"Well then." the left man said.

"Let us toast." said the one on the right.

"To LG Inc." the left one concluded, raising his glass

"To LG Inc." the right one concured.

"To LG Inc." Roberts said hastily, all of them taking a good drink of the liquid before placing their glasses down again. He had to admit that it was good stuff, nice and refreshing as it poured down his throat, seeming to ease his tension just a bit.

"Now..." the right man begun.

"Isn't that better?" the left one finished.

Roberts nodded, muttering out a somewhat hoarse 'thank you'.

"Oh don't mention it." the right-hand one said.

"But please." the left one added.

"Drink up." concluded the right man. Both sharing brief and identically cold smiles as the guardsman took another drink from his glass, the grunt quickly rushing in to empty the rest of the bottle's contents into the now almost empty glass.

"And then..." the right one said.

"We will talk bussiness."

Roberts nodded, still feeling too awkward to say anything. There was something thoroughly unnerving about these two men and the way they completed each others sentences seamlessly, as if they were but a single person speaking through two bodies.

"Our sources tell us..." the one on the right began.

"That there was an accident at Biffin Town." continued the left one.

"A most tragic accident."

"An unfortunate circumstance indeed."

"Valuable specimens lost."

"Ones that know too much."

"No less than three in fact."

"And one that has escaped our grasp earlier."

"All at the same place."

"And all dissapeared."

"Taking one of our more mercenary employees with them."

"Could you offer an explanation for this..."

"Mr. Roberts?"

"I-" the guard muttered, staring at his feet and feeling the panic build up within him once more as both men leaned in over the desk just a bit. "I was caught of guard."

"Not to mention outwitted." the right-hand one added.

"By a little girl..." the one on the left noted.

"...a Slowbro..."

"...and an old rat."

Roberts felt the colour rise to his cheeks, a hollow feeling building in his stomach as he reached for his glass once more, hoping that a drink might calm him down a bit. Although he didn't notice it, both executives smiled once more as they witnessed this.

"You must understand..." the one on the right began once more.

"That in these competitive times..."

"...we cannot afford trade secrets..."

"...or other classified information..."

"...not to mention test subjects..."

"...or employees..."

"...to simply leave our organization."

"That is why..."

"...we called you here..."

"...Mr. Roberts."

"You want me to go after them?" Roberts asked, raising his head up. He would love to repay Squirt and her two four-legged friends for the humiliation they caused him.

"Perhaps..." the one on the right replied.

"In a manner of speaking, certainly..." said the one on the left.

"...although you would be supervised."

"For you see..."

"...for these delicate assignments..."

"...we need someone with the intelligence..."

"...and skill..."

"...not to mention experience..."

"...that tracking entails."

"One who has never failed us before..."

"...and who has the proper incentive never to do so..."

"...and unfortunately..."

"...you fullfill none of these requirements..."

"...Mr.Roberts."

They both shook their head in unison, as if to express their regret over this sad fact.

"But please..." the one on the right said.

"...do drink up." they both gestured towards the liquid remaining in Roberts' glass, giving the man two almost demanding stares.

Roberts nodded, feeling the frustration building within him as he emptied the glass, wiping a few remaining droplets from his lips with his sleeve.

"What would I be doing then?" he asked at last. Admitedly, the thought of serving someone else didn't appeal to him, but he still might get a break to get even again, maybe even regain the trust of his employers.

"You shall find out..." the one on the right replied. Identical grinns of triumph forming on both men's faces.

"...momentarily." the left one concluded.

Just as Roberts began to try figuring out what the two found so amusing, he suddenly felt a clenching feeling in his stomach that caused him to double over, holding onto it with both hands while the world began spinning around him and a feeling of nausea overwhelmed his senses, a bright light seeming to envelop the man's body as he feel of the chair, his skin beginning to feel hard and ripply and a stabbing pain suddenly erupting from his shoulders. Just as he was about to pass out, Roberts heard speech coming from somewhere above, vaguely aware of that both executives were now standing right beside him.

"Perform properly..."

"...and we might change you back..."

"...once your services are no longer required."

The last thing that Roberts saw was a pair of identical shark smiles as the white light suddenly turned blinding and he slipped into unconsciousness, a sizeable Graveler lying curled up on the office floor.

"Well then..." the one on the right began.

"...I suppose that is that." the left one finished.

"You there..." the right one added, adressing the, now rather pale, grunt who had brought in the water.

"...take this one over to the training center..."

"...our operative will be waiting there."

"And do be mindfull..."

"...not to repeat Mr.Roberts' mistakes."

"Ye-yes sir!" the grunt called, performing a nervous salute before pulling out a pokéball with an LG stamp on it and striking the unconscious Graveler with it, the newly formed Rock type dissapearing in a flash of red light. The grunt then proceeded with equal haste to leave the room, practically running to the elevator in an effort to make this delivery as soon as possible.

{ooc| My family name is Roberts ;; Don't dis us cornish families! *shakes fist* lol, those bosses made me laugh.}

Coran grinned. "Why, Squirt, there's so much to get you! Jeans, and flirty skirts, and sensible shoes, and not-so-sensible shoes, and swimwear, and underwear, and t-shirts, and jumpers..." she trailed off counting on her finger. God, it would cost a lot. Did Mara have enough? She'd probably have to buy more clothes for herself, let alone the ex-pokemon.

Coran entered the room, running her finger along the desk. She eyed it warily; her finger tip was now black. "Hmm... dusting's obviously going to be somewhere high up on my list of things to do..." She opened the curtains, bathing the room in sunlight, and threw the window open. She inhaled the seaside smell longingly. "Maybe tomorrow... once we've shifted some of this mess... we could go swimming...?" she cocked her head, trying not to seem to eager. Inwardly, Coran was crying out to go rejoin the spray. Just the smell of the sea was enough to make her leap head-first into the salty water.

She turned back to Teioh and Growlithe. "Don't worry," she said to the little stripy dog, "It won't be too much work. We could always use your butt as a duster, you've got the fluffiest tail I've seen in ages." She grinned.

OOC: Fwee! Roberts is a Graveler! I made sure I compared him to a pokemon just in case he got thirsty later on... ^^

OMG! I totally forgot about Seth?!! >.< Rhaine must think there's something wrong with the lad.

Your family name is Roberts? What are the chances of me randomly picking your name out of the bunch that I know? o.o

Anyway, onward:

Mara & Squirt
-------------------

Growlithe looked up at Coran, absolutely appauled that he should be expected to use his precious tail to sweep up filth. It was only a joke, but Growlithe was not the kind of pokemon to take a joke.

{I should think not!} he said, his eyes narrowing.

Squirt grinned widely, chuckling a bit to herself. Growlithe's attitude always cheered her up a bit; even if it was at his expense.

"Yes, you're right, there are a lot of things to buy for me," Squirt said, to Coran and Mara, "But really, you don't need to buy too much for me, it already feels so strange wearing clothes. I much preferred a shell."

For some reason she found herself picturing a long evening gown that was white. She blinked. Another part of a memory? Perhaps something she used to own? Ah well....

"Oh boy. Women thinking of shopping," Seth said eyeing Mara and Coran, "I can tell where all of our hard-earned money's going to go."

Growlithe looked over to Teioh, {You going to use your tail and bottom to wipe the floor?} He half-smiled.

OOC: Heh, I toyed with the idea of transforming him ever since I wrote up that one line for Biggs' 'Sleep Talking'. XD Anyhow, Mr.Roberts just doesn't happen to be the brightest crayon in the box, but Ms. Roberts is of course quite free to feel dissed if it makes Ms. Roberts feel important. ^^ And the siamese LGs...ah, I just love those two. Best pair of sub-characters I've ever made. And among the first too. *Pats self on back* Glad you find them amusing. ^^

IC:

{This little thing?} Teioh asked, bringing his forked tail up for inspection {You heard what she said...I'm far too small for that.} he grinned slightly, wondering whether Growlithe would pick up on how he had just 'argued' against the statement a while back.

{We could try using this big lug.} Limpy suggested, pointing at Biggs, {With a bottom like his we'd have this place swept in no time.}

At Seth's comment, the boy-Espeon switched over to one-on-one mindspeak so as to not draw unwanted attention. "I know what you mean..." he said, looking at the three girls as their discussion continued "But they've been through a lot, I suppose it's only fair that they get something in return. And besides..." he added, "I think we're both too soft not to give in to nagging anyway. Might as well make the best of it..."

Coran laughed. "No worries, Seth. We'll get jobs. Modelling or something, eh, girls?" she winked at the pair of them, wiggling her hips jokingly. Coran had always fancied herself as one of the posh women that strutted their stuff down the catwalk. The only problem was, she was pretty short, and it's pratically the law that you have to be tall to get into that career.

Sensing this was, perhaps, a subject that they ought to get over and done with any way, Coran continued. "We will need to get jobs, though. We can't expect Rhaine - even though I'm sure she'd be more than happy - to feed us all, and supply us with all the junk we trainers need. Even if it's just serving Mochas in the coffee shop... We'll be earning a few hundred yen an hour. Every little helps!"
The girl smiled to herself. She wouldn't let anyone pay her way, not now, not ever. She was determined to keep her independence, and if that involved paying for her own food and clothes and potions, she was perfectly obliged.

{ooc| That's weird. It's not really a common name any more... used to be.
I, Ms. Roberts, (I'm not married to my Dad, Alter xD) will never take offence from anything my dear fellow roleplayers happen to say in jest.}

OOC: Ah, yes, um... I hope you're not married to your Dad. XD

Ugh... not quite sure what to do with Seth... he's just sorta this extra baggage hanging around. I can't make up a past for him; I don't know what Deadly Aim had in mind for him. >.< Fuuu.....

Mara & Squirt
------------------

Seth nodded to Teioh first, smiling, and then to Coran, "Yes, jobs would be a good idea. Who knows how long all of this mess is going to take to sort out. I still can't even believe this is happening. My life's been one huge adeventure ever since I saw that guy... it's just really weird." He looked over to Mara as she spoke up suddenly.

"Calm down Growlithe, I won't make you dust things with your tail," Mara said, noticing that Growlithe was lagging behind the others.

Growlithe nodded at her, but still curled his tail a bit under him as if afraid that someone were about to steal it away. Squirt laughed at this, which made Growlithe nervous enough to flush a bit in the face. Well, as much as a dgo pokemon could. Which wasn't very obvious to humans, but to other pokemon it was quite obvious.

{There's nothing to laugh about,} he looked over to Biggs, {Why can't you just use your psychic powers to clean up this place?} Growlithe obviously wasn't aware of just how helpless Biggs was unless in the pressure of a serious moment.

{Because the big lump's tiny mind would boil over from the exhaustion of merely thinking about something as big as that.} Limpy replied in his usual blunt manner, absent-mindedly picking up a piece of candy that had remained on the floor for goodness knows how long and unwrapping it, plucking the treat into his mouth, something which caused Teioh to cringe slightly.

{It's...true...} Biggs muttered, hanging his head slightly in shame {I'm not much good with psychic powers...not like Teioh. I just mastered telepathy a short time ago and even that tires me.} his shoulders sagged {Looks like I'm a failure as a pok?mon...just like as a trainer.}

{Nonsese.} Teioh cut in at once, shaking his head, {It's just that Slowbro aspect dragging you down. You're a quick learner for your species and there's certainly nothing to be ashamed of. Right guys?} he turned to the others for support.

OOC: OMG! Melissa's posting and she didn't need a reminder! O__O

Mara & Squirt
------------------

"Teioh's right Biggs," Squirt piped up, as she had a certain fondness for both of her fellow cellmates, "After all, without you we surely wouldn't have made it out of that place as easy. Maybe not even at all." She nodded as she said it, hoping the poor guy would believe her.

Growlithe mentally shrugged. He didn't know Biggs well enough to have an opinion formed. And he wasn't one to just give support because he was nice or something. Instead he just kept looking around the room they were all in.

Mara looked at the time. "Hm... looks like we should get some rest you guys.... Why don't we start cleaning tomorrow morning? Maybe we can look for a job or two as well. Oh Squirt... do you think you can even get a job? I mean, you are a human, but I don't know if you'd be comfortable working in a world you don't remember."

Shrugging, Squirt merely replied, "It's worth a try."

Seth nodded, "Well, what do you guys think? Rest?"

Coran shrugged. "I don't mind... I'm kinda tired, but exercise makes energy!"
She hadn't been able to keep track of the pokemon's banter, but as Squirt drew the conversation to a close she sensed something was wrong. "Don't worry, Biggs," she said, "No matter what you're like as a pokemon, we swear, we'll fix you."
Coran tilted her head to the side. "How about... we go to the beach? I mean, if we go this afternoon, it'll be too cold to swim, but we could have a barbeque on the sand, and look for jobs at the same time. It's probably a bad idea..."

{ooc| soz 4 shrtness}

OOC: OMG! Melissa's posting and she did need a reminder! XD

Mara & Squirt
-------------------

"I agree with Coran!" Squirt said with a smile, "Let's work! It'll help us feel like we're actually accomplishing something for once." She began to pick up some old food wrappers from the floor.

Mara frowned, "All right...," but she was a bit dissapointed; she had wanted to take a break for Squirt's sake, as he friend didn't seem all to well right now. Though, Squirt was the one that seemed most enthusiastic about working... why?

Squirt did have her reasons. If she could work and get her mind off of her memories, then perhaps she wouldn't remember them. Besides, she had this feeling of uneasiness about her, and she had to get rid of it by working hard. Growlithe sniffed at the floor and then stuck his nose up at it.

After a moment, Squirt turned to the orange dog, "Hey, mind if you carry these over there on your back?" Growlithe looked as if the girl had just asked him to eat dung. "Okay fine, I'll carry them I guess," Squirt replied to his look, though she turned to him as she made her way across the room, "You're going to have to help out sometime you know!"

OOC: Pwhee! Alter ish posting too! Rejoice y'all! XD

IC:

Biggs looked up at the supportive words that the others gave him, smiling widely at all of them. {Thank you...} he said, his voice almost completely choked by emotion. {But I shouldn't wallow like this.} the Slowbro straightened his pose, a new vigour entering his body {We've got work to do, remember?} he lumbered over to Squirt, {I can carry those if you want...} he said, obviously doing his best to be helpfull {I feel pretty strong and the excercise will do me good.}

"I guess we're off to work then." Teioh said with a shrug, wondering what on earth he could do to help. Sure, he could haul about things from one place to another with his psychic powers but only as long as he had undisturbed eye-contact to the place he was moving them to, and walking while he carried something psychically was too straining. On top of that, his Espeon form was frailer and somewhat weaker physically than his human one and of course, had the distinct disadvantage of lacking arms, so he wouldn't be much good for the chores. Remembering Coran's comment, the boy-Espeon took a bit of distance, ready to step in if he was needed. "And I'm sure we can go to the beach later on..." he added in response to Coran's suggestion, "Only..." he sighed, grinning sheepishly "I'm not comfortable with going out there when it's so...crowded, lots of bad memories..."

"Mara?" Coran put a hand on her friend's shoulder. "Is there something wrong? You don't sound very happy..."
The girl trailed off, catching sight of her friend's disappointed expression. Maybe Mara was tired? Squirt should be, with all that emotional upheaval... but she seemed perfectly content. Coran pulled away, and sat down on the bed. She was worried about Mara and Squirt. She hardly knew the girls - she didn't know where they were from, or anything like that. Well, Coran decided, I'll just have to find out!
"Or... we could order take-away food, go to bed early, and get jobs tomorrow! We could go swimming, aswell..." she added hintingly.

Coran laughed at Teioh's comment. "Bad memories?" she asked, her curiousity showing in her voice. However, she didn't dare pry any further. She didn't Teioh getting all...embarressed. They had suffered quite enough of that on the train.
{ooc| so...tired... My feet hurt, my hands hurt, and my ears ache from all that barking. xP Working in the kennels was fun but REALLY hard.}

OOC: This is what happens when Melissa has lots of free time...:

Mara & Squirt
------------------

"Nah... it's alright, let's work," Mara said to Coran. She began to rumage through things around the room, coughing once in a while from all of the dirt and dust that had been kicked up. Once Squirt had left the room for a moment to go throw something away, Mara leaned over to Coran.

"I just didn't want to push Squirt too hard...," she whispered to her, "I mean, she didn't look right earlier. I dunno, I just feel like she's afraid of something. A trainer knows her pokemon, even when said pokemon is actually a human now, and I know something's not right." She paused, looking to see if Squirt was on her way back. "But if Squirt wants to work, then I guess it's alright," she added, smiling a bit.

Growlithe watched the conversation take place, and made a mental note to himself about it. Whatever was bothering Squirt... he would get to the bottom of it sooner or later. Sooner the better though, he could tell something was wrong too.

OOC: The ball's in your courts!

Coran sighed, and ran a hand through her hair. "It's understandable, I'd probably collapse with shock if I suddenly found out I was a furry pink quadruped, or whatever. I mean..." she dropped her voice and leant closer to Mara, "..Teioh seems to have adapted okay, and so has Biggs and Limpy. Squirt... she started off as a pokemon, though. She can't remember being human much. She might feel vunerable... I mean, she's remembering things now, isn't she? She hasn't got a shell to hide behind either."
She returned the smile, and glanced at the window. Dust motes danced and swirled in the sunlight.
"Maybe we should give her some recovery time...." she suggested, before finally remembering Teioh. "What do you think?" she asked.

OOC: Pwhee! *Catches ball* Almost forgot about this RP...shame on me. <_<

IC:

"Well..." Teioh replied after a while, having been silent this far as he attempted to come up with the best approach "I agree. I think it's best if we just let her have her way for now...it's a big change...becoming a pok?mon I mean, and I bet it's just as difficult the other way around." he took a pause "I guess...I kind of had some help with my own adjusting..." the boy-Espeon added after a while "But anyhow, let's not fuss over Squirt too much, I think it would only make her feel worse. Let's wait until she's ready to tell us of her own will."
