4th Gen Protect?

i think protect means that the next attack against you will fail. its a very useful move!

It protects your Pkmn from damage for one turn. This can have many strategic uses. If Sandstorm or Hail are active, it allows you to let that chip away at your opponent before you attack and not take damage. If you predict your opponent using Explosion you can use Protect and they will kill themselves without touching you. You can also use it to see what your opponent will do and decide whether or not to switch.

ooooohhh! Ok. Thanks. I've used it before, but thought it was kinda ueless, but I didn't think to use it any other way but as a stalling move.

^Really? I never knew. What kind of item?
Also, Protect gives you an extra turn of healing if the Protecting Pokemon has Leftovers.
And apart from preventing the opponent from exploding on you like Mo Man mentioned, you can also use it in a 2v2 battle with an exploding partner while safely protecting.
Too bad Protect is breakable by Feint, sometimes Thunder (25% if it's raining only) and Shadow Force.

One more. Ninjask can utilize Protect to ensure a safe Speed Boost.

Protect can also be used to scout moves aswell.

Also its quite useful if you have a pokemon like Ninjask.

Use protect a few times and baton pass speed boost.

You can also use Toxic and a weather condition like Hail or Sandstorm to wreak havoc on someone. A really annoying set could be

Toxic
Hail/Sandstorm
Protect
Sweet Kiss/Swagger/Attract/Confuse Ray

Let's see anything hit you before it dies.

Protect is sometimes used to gain an advantage with one's ability. Ninjask and Yanmega are examples since they retain the Speed Boost. Protect is also useful if you have statused the opponent, it is useful for stalling out too. Sometimes it is used to see one of the opponents attacks they have in stock for you.

Does anyone know if you can teach both Protect and Detect to one Pokemon, then use them alternately to keep the success rate at 100%? I haven't experimented with it yet, and it would make for a *really* annoying adversary. XD

I got a Shedinja with Protect Endure and Skill Swap. It was an incredible move for my pokemon team.

yes i'd like to know an answer for this as well as i was thinking of adding a pokemon to my team if it is possible. Toxic then just keep protecting and detecting until they faint. make sure the pokemon is holding leftovers for extra annoyingness and yeah, a 3 move massive staller.
