PS1 emulation problem

Alright, so I used to have a PS1 emulator- ePSXe to be exact. It worked perfectly. But, I wanted to do a Let's Play(for those who may not know, this is basically recording yourself playing a game and doing a commentary on it), but when you load an ISO the emulator always goes full screen. The problem was, the mouse kept somehow, even though I made sure to move it out of the selected recording area(I know, I just said it goes full screen, but I had to record a certain part of my desktop otherwise the gameply would be a small square in the corner, and everything else would go black..dont ask, I dont get that either) when I used CamStudio to record the gameplay. So, I downloaded a patch that would allow me to change the emulators screen settings so it wouldn't go fulscreen.

And then...everything slowed down. Every ISO I played lagged, despite the fact that they ran fine before I got the patch. So I got rid of the patch to see what would happen...and yet the emulator still lagged. So, I deleted the emulator and redownloaded it....and now, the meulator simply refuses to run without that patch, and with the patch, it lags like crazy. And every other emulator I try lags as well.

So...does anyone know of a way to fix this?
