    *~*Psycho's Shift*~*

    Chapter one: My poor brain

It's a cold winter day in Saffron city. Everything is peaceful. Except for the local hospital, where a young boy is being carried down the hall on a stretcher.

His eyes slowly opened and a low moan came from his mouth.

"What's his status doctor?" He vaguely hears a nurse ask.

"He's suffered severe head trauma and a…" The voices cut in and out.

    "…oken bones…." "….. Brain directly hit and then…" "…after fell, it's a miracle he…."

Looking over in a passing mirror he sees himself, brain exposed and blood caked all over his brown hair and jacket. Another moan is heard from him as he lays his head back down and closes his pained blue eyes.

    *~*P.S.*~*

The doctor that operated Samuel walked out of the surgery room, blood covering his hands. He breathed a sigh of relief.

"You've done well doctor. I can't believe he's still alive." A passing nurse complimented.

"… Yes, but I've no clue as to his mental state." He said. "His brain was practically split in two."

The nurse paused for a bit. "… What happened?" She asked. She almost didn't want to know.

"Samuel was competing in a local battling tournament and got hit by a psychic attack from a very powerful Noctowl and then fell off of his podium. It was almost 3 stories high." He said. "It's a shame really. Whole thing could've been avoided if the sponsors of the tournament had had better safety precautions."

"Oh…... well, I'm sure he'll be fine." She said, not eager to find out more. She knew that it was likely that he would not be alright. Humans weren't designed to handle the fierce attacks of Pokémon.

She'd once seen a video on the internet of a man being attacked by a Urasing. The Urasing had thrown the man around like a ragdoll before completely shredding him into pieces with a simple scratch attack. Ironically, the man in the video was trying to show his son how peaceful Pokémon were.

The nurse shuddered and hurried off to her next patient. Unlike Samuel, she would be able to shake this off and forget about it.
    *~P.S.~*

Samuel sat up in his hospital bed at night. He looked around his room, it was cramped with only a window and a door. Instead of his usual blue jeans and t-shirt he wore a hospital gown. Instead of his sleek tennis shoes he was barefoot. Instead of his generally well combed hair, a tangled mess was sitting on his head.

It was cold, and Samuel was still drowsy when outside of his window a Noctowl appeared. It cocked its head sideways and cooed a bit.

…The hell does this thing want…

Samuel looked around the room, and then turned back to the Noctowl annoyed.

"Go on! Get outa' here!" He said, trying to get the owl Pokémon to leave. Something about the pokemon freaked him out.

Just then another Noctowl showed up, and another, and another. They kept piling up at Samuel's window until he couldn't even see outside. They were all cocking their heads and cooing now. Suddenly their heads snapped back into position and they seemed to get larger as their eyes all lit up blood red and their beaks flashed open. Their mouths seemed like endless pits of hunger and Samuel was the perfect entrée.

"Help! HELP!" He screamed. He was desperately pushing the "Call Nurse" button.

Then, just as quickly as they had came, all the Noctowl flew away. The nurse ran in.

"What is it! What's wrong?" She questioned with a worried face.

    "I! It's the, the… I guess it's nothing. …" He babbled.

    I must be imagining things.

"Uh…, how are you?" He put on his best smile.

"Don't you ever do that again! That button is an emergency tool! Not a plaything for reckless teenagers!" She said, storming off with a an angry expression.

    Samuel sighed.

Well, at least those creepy *** Noctowl are gone. Finally can get some sleep.

Almost on cue, the Noctowls all burst through Samuel's window screeching with delight.

"AHH! Nurse! Nurse!" He fleetingly yelled.

The Noctowls all perched themselves on Samuel. One of them howled with laughter like a hyena.

They stared at him and their eyes lit up once more. They were glaring at Samuel like he was a Frog for dissection.

The first one dug its beak straight into Samuel's stomach, piercing through the squishy flesh. The others joined in as the pulled open his stomach. Then another group began picking at his stitches. Samuel could feel them popping out, undoing tireless work by the doctor. Blood was drabbling down his face as Noctowls feasted on Samuel.

"Ahh! Get offa' me!" He howled, flailing his arms like a madman. He moaned in despair as one of the Noctowls pulled its head up from Samuel with intestines covering its beak.

This is not happening! Oh dear God I don't wanna' die! Why me!?

Fear and pain were overtaking every sense his body had. Everything was happening in a terrible red blur. Then, as quickly as it had begun, it stopped. The Noctowls looked satisfied and flew off back out the window and into the night with beaks covered in gobbets of Samuel's flesh. Except for the one that had laughed. That one was still sitting on Samuel. Taunting him almost.

"Nurse, please…" He cried, jamming the nurse button. Blood draining from the top of his head.

Samuel then felt something odd, the opened flesh on the top of Samuel's skull was moving. It slithered around like it had a mind of its own. Samuel felt like rats were crawling all over his brain. Then a face burst out of the top of his head, squealing with a mixture of angst and sick pleasure.

    He finally woke up.

"AH!" He cried bursting up from his hospital bed in a fierce panic.

His mother was at the edge of his bed, with a terrified face.

"Sweetie! What's wrong!?" She asked, jumping to Samuel's side.

"It was…" Samuel looked around at his room. He peered at the window, searching for anything.

"A nightmare, just a bad dream." He said with his whole body shaking.

"Aww, sweetie don't be worried, you just go back to sleep." She cooed.

"I don't know mom..." He said looking up at his mother.

Samuel's mom was a bit taller than Samuel, standing at roughly five and a half feet. Her eyes were a deep brown along with her long hair. She wore a plain white t-shirt with tight fitting jeans.

"When is dad coming?" Samuel asked.

His mother got a cold look on her face.

"He's coming," she said almost bitterly, "Right now he has work to do."

    "Oh…" Samuel sighed, "It's probably important…"

He's never here is he? *******. Always at his job…

Then a knock was heard from the door. A tall man in a black suit walked in, Eyes covered by sunglasses with straight black hair carrying a briefcase. A grey feeling of dread followed him.

"Hello Ms. Archain. I'm Lucas Kryeg from Snyder Corp., the sponsors of the tournament where Samuel had his," He peered over at Samuel with an emotionless face and raised one eyebrow. "… accident."

Lucas straightened up his tie and sat his briefcase down on to Samuel's side table.

"I'm here to talk about the legal issues of our involvement in this tragedy." He said with the eyes of a snake.

That's the end of C. 1. Chapter 2 to follow soon.
Don't be afraid to post reviews my good people.

Finally, we can get down to the good stuff. Here it is,

Chapter two: Me, Myself, and I

    Lucas Kryeg ckeared his throat.

"Ms. Archain I know things are tough for you right now, but you can't avoid this. We need to come to some kind of legal compromise." The businessman said.

Samuel's mother huffed a bit and gave a dark glare.

"**** you." She said, an angry southern accent arising. "This is all your reckless company's fault. I aint compromising anything." she said,

Then Samuel's mother jumped up and got right in Lucas' face.

"Because we're suing you for every penny you got!" She said. "It just so happens my boy's daddy is one of the best lawyers out there and he's gonna' put you in the mud! So say good bye to your fancy private jets and go ahead and buy a bus pass cause from now on you're just another person." She said.

Lucas Kryeg didn't move a muscle. He only repositioned his glasses.

"Ms. Archain you need to be more careful." He said, getting up from his seat.

Samuel sat up in his bed and stared at Lucas with concerned eyes, Mr. Kryeg was circling Samuel's mother like a hungry lion.

"Snyder Corp. is a very big business, we have connections to almost every single thing you use in daily life. Electricity, water, the police, you name it." He said, moving in closer. "Everything."

"You can just stop right now if you're trying to intimidate me." She said defiantly, "Because you'd be better off trying to get Arceus himself come down here and do a tap dance for ya'."

Lucas finally stopped. He was inches away from Samuel's mother now.

"I'm going to ask you one more time. Will you at least try to compromise with our company?" Lucas offered through bared teeth.

    Samuel's mother narrowed her eyes.

"Compromise with the company who ruined my baby's chance at a normal life?" She growled. "Uh-uh, you just fly on back to your fancy company and tell Mr. Snyder that his license for murder has just been revoked.."

"Its ignorant statements like that that got you that horrible wound on the back of your head." Lucas snarled.

Samuel's mom's brown eyes widened in shock.

Lucas Kryeg took hold of Samuel's mother's face, and slammed her head onto the metal hospital bed. A horrible crunch was heard, but there was no scream, only the sound of blood starting to drip to the floor.

For the first time since Samuel saw him, Lucas Kryeg smiled.

Just then the door burst open and another man in a black suit rushed in. He looked angry and had a thick stack of papers in his hand.

Samuel's eyes were darting between Lucas, his unconscious mother, and the new man that had just walked in. He was in complete shock

Samuel shook his head. "Mom!" He screamed in terror. His brain was a whirlwind of thoughts and he could feel his recent medication start to course through his veins.

What! Wait. No, now. Go. RUN! No stay, they'll kill you if you run. DAD! ****! ****!

His mind buzzed from thought to thought, never dwelling on one for more than a half a second..

The man that had just entered started yelling.

"What the **** is wrong with you! I said don't kill anybody!" He screamed.

    Lucas gritted his teeth.

"We're not going to get caught! Plus she was being a ****." He replied, "That woman was immovable."

"******." The new man said. "Help me clean up this blood, we gotta' make sure it looks like nothing happened."

Then Samuel grabbed his head. It was numb.

    What the hell…

His eyes rolled back in his head.

    <><PS><>

Suddenly Samuel was standing on a cliff. It was nighttime, but try as he might, Samuel couldn't find the moon.

"Holy ****." Samuel muttered once he looked over the edge of the cliff.

There was no end. It just kept going and going.

"Like it Samuel?" He heard his own voice say.

Samuel whipped around to see a carbon copy of himself. The only difference was that this one had a devilish smile that practically covered his entire face.

    "Wha.." Samuel sputtered.

"Welcome" The new Samuel said, "to your mind."

Samuel shook his head. Surely this was some type of dream. He was having an allergic reaction to the new meds, right?

"Well actually, it's OUR mind. But you don't you don't need to be worried about that" The new Samuel said, "Whats wrong Sammy? You look scared. Don't worry nothing can hurt you here."

New Samuel walked over to the edge of the cliff and looked back at Samuel. He gave a quick grin before outstretching his arms and falling over into the abyss.

Samuel gasped an ran over to the edge, and then quickly ran back in fear. Rising up was a super sized Noctowl. The Noctowl was as big as a barn. It's eyes were red and its legs were nothing but skeletons. Sitting atop It was Samuel's copy. A dark aura was emanating from them.

"No…" Samuel said with a sense of dread surrounding him, "NO! This is a dream!"

A brilliant white light burst forth from Samuel.

Samuel's copy seemed displeased. "You're right Samuel. this isn't a dream." Samuel said ominously as the Noctowl flew forward and began hovering above Samuel.

    "It's a prediction."

The Noctowl screeched and dropped onto Samuel with its razor sharp claws glistening in the night.

    Can I haz reviews?

    two words: holy ****

i've never read anything like this before... seriously,

the plot is very well thought out, i don't know if it's because I'm reading this at 2 o clock in the morning, but i can FEEL the pain, the anger, and the darkness of your writing,

the level of gore is awesome, almost intimidating, and DEFINITELY not for the faint of heart...

i've personally read a lot of fanfics whose authors rate as R, and don't reach the expectation of an R rated fanfic...
    this one surpasses it,

i feel that the whole killing the mother was a bit out of nowhere, but i'm positive it'll make sense in the next few chapters, and i couldn't find any spelling or grammar mistakes in your writing (wasn't really looking though, i'll go back and check)

all in all, i'm VERY pleased, and look forward to more of your writing :D

EDIT: I went back and re-read it and it was STILL AWESOME!

Taunting him almost.

this is the only thing i found, technically speaking, "Taunting him almost" is not a sentence, therefore, i would go with a comma rather than a period, but i'd understand if you tell me that's too harsh :D

    again, can't wait for more!

    Chapter Three: Our Favorite Color

Samuel's eyes fluttered open. He was laying facedown in a pool of red. He took a look around the room and all he saw was the color. The whole room was covered in it. Some of it splattered on the wall carelessly and some of it organized into letters. Samuel groaned and tried to lift himself up; he collapsed into the floor again with an agonizing cry of pain. He set his head down again, resting it in a stained pillow next to him, taking comfort in the steady dripping noises he heard in the distance. His eyes were almost shut when he heard a door open. He flashed his head up in fear and saw a familiar face.

    His Father.

"Sam. Are you Awake? C'mon its time to get up now."

Samuel heard the words, but they just didn't register.

His father muttered a silent curse.

"I tried it the good way at least." His dad said, "Get your ass up Samuel before I get it up for you."

Samuel understood his Father this time. He stood up slowly, trying to dodge the deeper pools surrounding him. He staggered a bit.

"Listen Samuel we don't have much time. People are going to show up soon." His Father sighed, "Just… take my hand. I'll get you out of here."

Samuel reached out and took his Father's hand. He was pulled through the hospital rapidly. His eyes were focusing in and out. His Father told him not to stare too long in one place. Samuel could see why, the entire hospital had become a bright shade of red, it was almost blinding. One wall had been painted with the color to look like a large broken heart. Another had letters spelling out the words "Freedom is a *****." Finally the two reached the exit. Samuel's Father took out a bag and told Samuel to change into the clothes in it. Samuel looked in it and saw a pair of jeans, a large hoodie, tennis shoes, sunglasses and a black bandana.

"Dad, what happened?" When his father didn't answer Samuel tried a lighter question, "So what are the sunglasses and bandana for?"

"They're to hide your face son." His dad said concisely.

    "But, why?" He asked, frustrated.

His Father sighed. "I'll tell you on the train."

Samuel changed into his new outfit and his Father rushed him out of the Hospital and on to the street. Samuel gazed in amazement at the world. Everything was so colorful, not a hint of red in sight. His father flipped up the hood on Samuel's hoodie and made sure that his bandana was on tight. They were hurriedly walking to the monorail, the one that took passengers to Goldenrod City in Johto. Samuel was confused but either too tired or too scared to ask about it. The two heard the doors to the Hospital open, followed by a horrifying scream. Samuel looked up at his Dad.

    His Father just looked away.

The two reached the monorail station and Samuel's father took out two boarding tickets and made a quick joke to the vendor about prices. Samuel and his father took their places on the train. Samuel's dad breathed a heavy sigh of relief and started rubbing his forehead.

"You've really done it this time huh Danny?" He heard his Father mutter to himself.

Samuel and his Father shared a couple of uncomfortable moments of silence before Samuel broke the ice.

    "So…" He started, "What happened?"

His Father looked into his son's eyes. Samuel never noticed how hazy they were. How tired they had become. Years ago his eyes had probably been a bubbly blue. His hair would have been a sheen brown and his smile would have lit up a lighthouse. Right now though his hair was mussed up and dirty while he wore a small frown on his face.

"Samuel, there are things in this world that nobody knows about. Secrets that are locked away inside treasure chests in far off lands. But," his father paused for a moment, "The biggest secrets we can ever discover are the secrets that lie within us. From what I've seen back at the Hospital I'm guessing that you probably have a pretty big secret huh?"

Samuel dropped his head, he didn't understand. Then it came back to him all in a hurry. The copy of himself, the cliff he had been on and the Noctowl. Where had it been that the other Samuel told him he was? His mind?

"If you've got a secret, Samuel, there's no reason to hide it."

Go on Samuel. Tell him about me. I know you want to.

    "What!?" Samuel gasped.

Oh, Samuel... Naïve as ever. You're expressions are painted all over your face like the paint I left on the hospital, and soon, the world.

"Oh no…" He said to himself. "He can talk to me?"

Samuel locked his gaze with Dad.

"Dad. The red stuff in the Hospital. What was that?" He said worriedly.

Samuel's Father blinked a few times in bewilderment.

"Samuel? Are you ok?" His father asked.

"What was it dad." He asked again.

"It was… It was blood, son." His father said with tears welling up in his eyes.

Samuel's eyes widened in complete terror. He just hadn't made the connection yet.

What's wrong Sammy? You don't like blood? And here I was thinking it was our favorite color.

Samuel could hear the mad cackling of a Noctowl in the background of his head.
