Why is the menu for selecting what theme you want to use on the lower part of the page?

It would be a lot better to have it somewhere near the top. Then you wouldn't have to wait until the entire page loads before switching from a theme that you know right away you don't like.

I know you can change themes in your profile, but it's a lot easier to see what the messages look like when done from the thread you are viewing.

I don't know for sure, but I assume that would involve recoding every theme, if it is even possible. Seriously, it's not a big deal.

As stupid as this sounds, i think having it at the top would just cause clutter due to the already crowded nav bar and piss me off to an extent. But maybe that's just me.

    Offsite theme switcher

Many people have no choice in what kind of internet connection they use or the speed of that connection. Not everyone likes having their number of messages/topics per page set to the minimum either. So it often takes a long time for a page to load. It's easier with slow connections to load a single page with a bunch of messages than have several pages with a few messages.

There have been many times when I've seen topics that have messages that look like they contain whatever the maximum is that you can put there. Even if I switched to only a few messages per page, those would take a long time to load.

There may be something that is better, at least for some users. Is there somewhere to at least get copies of the themes to try using Stylish (or something like it) to load them instead of going through the site itself? Then users who have that wouldn't have to switch the theme every time they come here or save their cookies. It would also make it easier to get the theme you really want if you could edit it yourself. I've seen several themes I like a few parts of, but not any that I like everything in it.

also, for just general reference and browsing threads (not full reading or posting) try the archive version: https://www.pokecommunity.com/archive/index.php a much lighter, text-based version of the posts. (note: its backwards.. oldest posts first. so you'll have to nav to the last pages to find current threads)

I don't really have a slow connection (in fact, it's a bit too fast in FF), but it could be an useful move in case I have to access from my grandparent's Mexico PC (which is somewhat often) with unfortunately slow connection. But it would be tough to determine a good position.

User CP > Edit Options > Scroll down until you find the point where you can change your style. That's the most permanent method although I'm not sure what that has to do with your suggestion.

I've tried that before and it never keeps the theme I use when I clear my cookies. Storing cookies isn't really a valid option for me.

I've been wanting to find a way to edit the themes to get one I really like for a while anyway.

well if you don't want to store a cookie, there isn't much more we can (or will) do.. you pretty much are at the mercy of the software we run and how we decide to set up the community along with its various themes.

now, don't take offense at that, we do want every user's experience here on PC to be a good one, but you most likely are in a very small sub-class and well not gonna be directly served like the majority of users would.

I may have found a way to get the theme I use to stay, but I won't know if it really works until a few days from now when I can see if my settings for when cookies expire are correct.

Instead of using Firefox's built in cookie manager, I use the add on "CookieSafe". I have it set to block all cookies unless they are from sites I go to a lot. I had this site set to "temporary allow", but I would have to reset the permissions every time I reload the browser. I changed the setting to "allow" while I test this.

Here's what I did for storing the theme cookie.

Switch to a theme I like.
Remove all cookies other than the one name "bbstyleid".
Export that cookie to somewhere outside of my browser, but easy to get to.
Import the theme cookie before I load any page from this site.
