Hey guys so i ran a search for this and couldn't find any info about it, but you know how you can do Mystery Gift for events? are those events only available for a certain time, or if say someone from the boards had done it when it was initially offered could they send it to me too?

yes they are only available for a certain amount of time but you maybe able to get them if your friend has them and just receive from a friend

ATM there is only one wifi event currently running which unlocks the Winner's Path on the PokeWalker - you need Nintendo Wifi for that. As for the recieve from friends you can only do that over local wifi, not over Nintendo Wifi (and only with certain events as well I believe?).
