Question About Swap Breeding (not about the actual process)

I was looking to try out swap breeding for a shiny Pokemon and was wondering about something. Foreign Ditto's are ridiculous to get from the GTS. Am I able to do it without a Ditto?

For example, let's say I have a foreign male Ekans and a female Magikarp. I go through the process, find a shiny Magikarp, and then reset. I then swap the Magikarp for a female Deino. In theory this should work right? I am not changing anything in regards to the Masuda method.

I understand that Ditto makes the process easier but I don't HAVE to have one right? Also, in case this makes any difference I am looking for a Shiny to use in a playthrough, not to have perfect IV's or competitive battle with or anything like that.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated! Have a great day!

    Hi!
As long as the Pokémon holding the Destiny Knot stays the same, the results won't be different. So you'll need a Pokémon able to breed with both Magikarp and Deino, and you must absolutely not take it from the Day Care. Hope this helps :) If you have more questions don't hesitate to message me directly!
