I have a game idea that I have no idea how to go about creating or even go about starting. I have some general points that I would like to use but I don't know what the best way to implement them is. I will list some points below:

    1. I want the game to be in Gen 2 style graphics. (GSC) They don't have to be animated sprites like in Crystal, but the style is probably my personal favorite style throughout the generations of Pokemon.
    2. IF POSSIBLE, I would like to have an original region. However, trainer sprites and names would be used from the base game. HOWEVER, if doing an original region is not practical, I can work with that.
    3. Character Selection: I have a list of characters the player could choose from to pick. No need for gender choosing, but you can gear the text format to the character selected. Also, have the default character names and not the ability to name yourself or rival.
    4. TM's would be original TM's and used much like how we use them in modern games; unlimited.
    5. Now here is the biggest and I know hardest point: Pokedex. I would like an original Pokedex using Pokemon from all generations. So Pokemon past Gen 2 would need Gen 2 style sprites. Kinda hard to find those for the most part. I already have a Pokedex built of 320 Pokemon, just not sure how to implement it.

I guess any tips or tricks on how to go about doing this would be great. I have tried doing a disassembly but I have not had any success with that and its been frustrating. I have thought of using Essentials but I am not well versed with RPG maker. Plus, I have been having difficulty trying to find Gen 2 sprites of the Pokemon and Characters that I want to use.

Who would primarily play this game? My kids. Im just a dad trying to do this for them when I have time. I started playing Pokemon since the day the games came to states back in the 90's. I am just looking for any kind of help and guidance. Any kind of info would be really helpful.

    Thanks in advance! :)

    1. I believe this has what you're looking for. https://www.mediafire.com/file/4hbt3wiuhoc2ugy/Pokemon+Essentials+GS+v1.1.rar
Creating a new tileset is as simple as extracting it, importing it, and adjusting certain values in the databass (such as collision and bridges)
    2. Making fully originally trainer sprites is quite difficult (because it's pixel art.) but it's very easy, although a bit time consumer, to take the old sprites and adjust them in any image editing tool. Change their colors, or cut off their head and replace it with a snake. Alternative you could "borrow" trainer art from other people online (they should be credited of course).
    3. I can't help with this, but it should be doable. Really just a matter of looking at the event at the start of the game, and if that doesn't help check the script section.
    4. It's very easy to make new TMs and new abilities as long as those abilities don't have completely unique effects. For example it's easy to make a poison sting that's fire type, or a hydro pump that puts people to sleep. Just check the PBS for Items and Abilities.
    5. There are people doing this. And the Gen2 pixel art might be learnable if you have the time. I reccomend to start looking online for gen 3 sprites, once you find those look for gen 4. However their might not be every generation available.
