This would pretty much be a feature that lets members know when they've been quoted in a thread, and shows them the posts that in which they were quoted.

Personally, i think it's a good idea. But it should be an optional feature if the feature uses PM's cause people like me keep their inboxes close to full.

I'd love this, I think it would be incredibly handy, I love to know when someone quotes me. It means I've said something interesting, and it would promote more discussion because sometimes people just forget about a thread after they've posted in it :)

This has been asked for many times and I don't think it was possible to implement at the time since there are more important things to do, but don't quote me on that.

It would be a nice feature, but I am not bothered either way.

If I had this option, I would have it go to it's own page on the User CP and show the last 20 quotes you were in. That way, it wouldn't spam inboxes.

Yeah, that's what I would say. When you click Notifications, one of the options would just be "New Quoted Replies", and that would send you to another page with a list of them.

The only problem with this is that quotes can be written in manually as well as done by clicking "Quote". For example, if you click the arrow next to Team Fail's quote, it links to another random post (the post posted just before yours on PC because I changed the number down one) because I changed the numbers. Who would get notified for that? I think that puts it on the "hard to implement" side, but I really hope I'm wrong because this would be really cool.

I don't see how it boosts your ego. If it does, plenty of other things probably do so more than a simple quoted post page. Even if it drives some ego into you, I don't see how that harms anyone unless you're bragging left and right, but I have a little more faith in the community not to do that.

I actually search my name on PC just to see if anyone quoted, so I can reply back as well. I love seeing quoted things so I know if I should reply, or just to read what the other person wrote. Works just fine, in my opinion.

The only reason I can imagine this to exist is to boost our members' ego. "HEY LOOK ____ QUOTED ME IM COOL NOW" or "I GOT QUOTED ____ MANY TIMES YEAH" yeah sure knowing who quoted you is cool etc but honestly it's not that important and will just up the ante insofar as the ego factor, which we all know after rep is not something in need of any modification.

Let's not do this, please. It seems like it'll both be a strain on the server (how is it going to search for who quoted you again? oh, run through the entire server? makes sense) and it'll be pointless in the end.

I honestly love the idea, but I have to agree with Vrai here. The stress on the server would be ridiculous, as well as how it's going to detect you got quoted.

Or if you said something in a thread and wanted to know if you were replied to without having to check the thread multiple times a day. ._. Maybe you posted in a thread in a section you don't usually check, or you don't want to check the thread unless someone replies to your post. I'm not sure whether or not it would be server intensive though. :'3

I honestly never thought of it as rep, just for the utility feature. If you could only see the last 20 times you were quoted it would be pretty useless for a reputation-gathering feature anyway.

I reaaaaaaally want this feature. It works as a notification like when you get a new VM. I'm on another forum that uses it and you won't believe how helpful it can be. There are times I get into a thread and post a bit, and then totally forget about it. I feel bad leaving someone hanging when I could have given them a response. I like being the person to end a conversation, most of the time. I guess I just like having the last word? Either way, it's incredibly helpful and I don't see any negativity in implementing it. Ego boosting as an argument here? Nobody else gets the notification. :||

Though this isn't the exact plug-in I'm talking about, it gives a good picture for what it does since it's the same purpose: https://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=112498

    That!

I believe that the last time this was brought up, there was a reason why it couldn't be done, but I can't imagine it would add too much stress to the servers. It also doesn't seem like too complicated of a plug-in. I really would like it to see it happen. :D

I think last time it didn't go through because some people are quoted constantly, depending on the thread. Though, it's not gonna make anyone's eyes bleed if they have to deal with getting a few more notifications.. xD

The constant notifications could get annoying especially if you're posting in the DCC where you mostly always get quoted. Maybe an option to have or not have it?

Or an option to turn on quote notifications for a thread, the way you can subscribe to one. That way people who want it don't have to choose between things like turning it off for the DCC but leaving it on for other threads.

If it's not a total hassle to implement, this would be a nifty feature to have. It would be handy for the ROM Hacking help threads because people would be alerted if their question got answered.

I have a question. If we did implement this, would it work for manual quotes as well? Like, if I physically typed in

would it still come up as a notification for me or would it not? My reasoning being, sometimes I quote someone and I break down their tl;dr that I quoted, responding to each individual part. Would that give that person like eight notifications?

Bumping this, was going to make a thread about this but it was up already.
Anyway, a shortcut to the post who was quoted by you or activity in a thread you've been active in would be cool.

The idea sounds cool. Should be optional though. I know I for one just want to quit a thread cold turkey sometimes. Y'know? Wouldn't help if I got notified everytime I was quoted. |D
