hey all! i'm new to this board, while internet surfing (and procrastinating for a big project thats due next week), i decided to look for a good pokemon community message forum since all my old haunts are dead (or at least no one talks about pokemon anymore).

so i guess my first post is a request to rate my team! it's an old team thats probably way outdated by now, but since a friend of mine just started playing and I have someone to finally go against in real life, i thought i'd see how my old team was (its been so long since i picked up my ruby cartridge that im not sure if i even remember what all the moves *do* :\ ). and here it is:

Absol: Swords Dance, Shadow Ball, Aerial Ace, Double-Edge

Altaria: Dragon Dance, Aerial Ace, Ice Beam, Earthquake

Hariyama: Endure, Reversal, Belly Drum, Rest

Manectric: Thunder Bolt, Thunder Wave, Roar, Attract

Houndoom: Sunny Day, Solar Beam, Crunch, Flamethrower

Marshtomp: Surf, Earthquake, Ice Beam, Rain Dance

i'm not sure about what hold items to use, and i havent got the natures for them all on me. anyway, any suggestions are welcome!

edit: oh yes and the version i have is ruby, and at the moment nothing else (which i guess means i have to wait til i get reunited with my gamecube and colloseum to get the houndoom, right?)

Thanks! I have a question about HP though... It's Hidden Power right? Is there a way to get HP a certain element on a normal game cartridge without cheating? I'm not quite sure how to do it, but i see that HP is quite a popular move here...

And also, EVs. This is probably going to be the stupidest question ever, but do excuse me for asking >.<;; I don't really understand EVs (i have read the info on this forum).
Back when I was still paying attention to pokemon (GS), the big thing was base stats of the pokemon you caught, like catch a pokemon with good base stats and rare candy it to 100 (which was easier to do back then too... are there any item dupe glitches in the new games?) and then have it fight whatever until its stats matched up to the best stats.
But now what we look for in pokemon is not base stats, right? When you get a pokemon, you should make sure it's of the right nature? And then somehow rare candy it to level a hundred and dont use it to fight any battles against anyone in the game, and then make sure it fights certain pokemon which give certain points to a certain stat you want to increase? And if, say, I wanted to have my pokemon be a certain level thats not 100, is it ok to just rare candy them to like level 50 and fight pokemon for the EVs from there? I want to make sure I have this right, because to me it sound weird. Is there anything I forgot in this process, or is the whole process wrong? >.> Seems like a heckuva lot of work, but ill ganbarimasu!

Thanks for all your help!! m(-_-)m

oh and a note: i dont have FRLG but a friend of mine recently got both, so I may be able to pursuade her into letting me play on her cartridge
