Well, I already built some teams around Groudon and Kyogre, but I can't find any real use for Rayquaza. It just doesn't have the defencive skills to stay alive for long in a battle, all it can really do is attack something and hope it faints. I tried my best to balance it out, but it still comes up short in a battle.

Rayquaza @ Lum Berry ** Sukai Ryu
    Trait: Air Lock
    EVs: 76 HP / 16 Atk / 93 Def / 152 Spd / 173 SAtk
    Rash Nature (+SAtk, -SDef)
    - Aerial Ace
    - Dragon Dance
    - Earthquake
    - Hidden Power [Grass]

I'd rather replace HP Grass with HP Fighting, to take care of any part Ice types that may try to Ice Beam you down. Meh, Rayquaza never seems to last long, especially when I face one. I can take one down with Dusclops easily enough (mind you, many things fall to my Dusclops, so not really a special case)

It can learn Brick Break =\.

I use more Rock Slide over Brick Break for Ice Types. Plus Rock Slide kills Aerodactyls and other fast, Flying Types.

One use for it is if you have a weather team, especially one with Kyogre or Groudon.
Why? Simple thing is, especially with Groudon, other people could take advantage of the SD drought gives. So you can send it out to deal with anything that might do that, and most that can can't hurt Rayquaza much.
It doesn't really need to be a mixed sweeper, but why not use Extremespeed? It's not terribly fast but it could take a huge chunk of health from dangerous DD'ers like Salamence.

I happen to think that Rayquaza is very useful. It never lets me down. It's a special sweeper that pwns everything. except my mates mewtwo... XD I like Earthquake, Aerial Ace and Dragon Dane, but the fourth move is a bit of a doozy. True, brick break is useful, but as Xilion said, rock slide covers things like aerodactyl and ice types.

I was also going to suggest completely changing it from a physical sweeper into a special sweeper. Its special attack is much higher than its attack, and with moves like dragon claw, thunderbolt, ice beam and flamethrower it can handle a very wide variety of opponents. Thats what I use on my rayquaza anyway, and it always comes through.

I'm trying out all your suggestion. Brick Break and Thunderbolt seem to work the best. Ice Beam wasn't that bad, and Flamethrower was just useless.

    try thunderbolt, surf, crunch, psychic
