Real life places in the Pokemon world?

I dunno, but since this has both showed up in the anime and videogames, I thought I'd address it here.

So, like the topic says, what's the deal with places in real life showing up in the Pokemon world? The most significant one I remember from the anime is when Ash and co. travel to California for the premire of that Psyduck/Wigglytuff movie...and in various Pokedex texts ingame, places are mentioned, like South America in Xatu's Silver entry and Mt. Everest in Delibird's R/S entry.

If there are anymore IRL places mentioned in Pokemon, post them; I'd like to procure a list. If the Pokemon world is supposed to be its very own world, how come places like California are showing up there? I live in California, and if California is in the Pokemon world, that is totally awesome. xD

In the first movie when Ash was in the boat with the "vikings" Ash said he thought vikings only were in South Dakota....

Heh, I know they were somewhere in the Pacific Ocean during the Orange Islands season. =P

Lol, I remember the "Vikings" bit.

Oh, and that episode with the Gastly at Maiden's Peak. I remember James picking up a penny, and there was a detailed close-up shot of it, with Lincoln's likeness. And then in the Pewter City episode, Flint charges Ash and Misty two dollars for sitting on his rocks. I assume the currency in Kanto is the same as America's. o.o

Yeah, the Viking bit was cute, lol. But, Ash said that he thought they were only in Minnesota, not South Dakota. ^_^ They try so hard to Americanize Pokemon so much that it's scary! They talk about every place in America but seemingly there was never any Pallet Town, Cerulean City, Pewter City, etc. in the reality of America. Funny how that came about. And Rifted, I think I read on the official Pokemon website about the Pokemon currency, and they said it was a currency of its own, or something like that. The penny thing I noticed, too, was edited because of the Japanese yen coin probably just so we'd understand it more if it was in our currency.

I can't think of any other places they mentioned, but I remember in the Mt. Moon episode, Ash was trying to figure out what Pikachu was trying to tell him. So they were basically playing charades and Ash said ". . .the Macarena!" -- which we all know is a dance that was popular in America a little before the show even aired here, but I just thought that seemed like an American pop culture kind of a thing. Who knows, it might've been popular in Japan, too. ^_~

Oh, yeah! Another thing was the "Neon Town" episode. It reminded me of Las Vegas or Reno. "The town that never sleeps."

Many places that they have passed in Pokemon do seem to remind me of some places in US but sometimes also of other places around the world.

In the log entries of the scientists in the chromatic series games (red, yellow, green, blue) in the mansion on Cinnabar Island, they mention Mew being discovered in Guyana, South America. They also mention Mew giving birth to Mewtwo, which is kinda weird because it would be giving birth to its own genetically altered clone.

All I know is that the regions are based on actual Japanese areas.

Yeah thats right, anyone ever heard about the Kanto earthquake?

In the last Master Quest Episode before Advanced, I believe Ash's mom served chicken. This has nothing to do with real places, but isn't that weird since we've never seen live chickens in the Poke world? Maybe it was a Hoothoot.(?) *throws up*

Hm, yeah. I never really thought about the real animal versus pokemon thing. It was probably a Hoothoot, possible a Pidgey. =P

Well, about Farfetch'd, I recall hearing that it's endangered because people like hunting it, cooking it, and serving it with its leek. o.o

*L* Obviously a paint edit made by 4kids, because it wasn't in the original. n.n() I recall someone telling me about that, and when you see the 'penny' being held in his hand, you can see the hole was left in the middle of it. X3

I've been thinking about the whole 'real places' thing myself. Wouldn't it be neat if they showed some coastal place in Alaska? (I'm from a small town on Kodiak Island in Alaska. It's real nice in Kodiak Town. Look on a map, then look at a large island under the bigger part of Alaska, and youll see Kodiak Town on the island. It rains A TON there, and it's always nice and green, and smells fresh =3) Sry, just a random thought.

This one is pretty noticeable. In an episode that was aired close to Christmas (I think. I don't remember the exact date anymore.) there was an episode about the North Pole and Santa. You have lived on an island in Alaska Pluslechu? *gasps and faints. recovers and notices that everyone's staring.* I've always wanted to go there!! I love how beautiful it is there(even though I've only seen pictures). The unspoiled nature is astonishing. Being in California, though, I haven't the slightest idea how I'd get there. :'( *sighs* Maybe it's too cold anyway.
