So has anyone been keeping up with this amazing remake series of movies? I've been a huge fan of the original series ever since I first watched it years ago, so naturally I was ecstatic when they announced the movies way back when.

The first Rebuild film (1.0) was released back in 07 in Japan, though the US dub wasn't released until 2009! Flash forward to now, I got my hands on the dubbed version of 2.22 yesterday and watched it as soon as I got home. It absolutely blew my mind! It exceeded my hopes and it's going to make it that much harder waiting for 3.0's release date to be announced. There's a lot of speculation that the date will be released with a Newtype interview of Hideaki Anno coming this June, so I'm hoping this happens!

Anyways, discuss please! Anyone else here share similar feelings towards this anime as I do?

I never liked the dub, so I saw the sub release about a year ago

It was ok. Shinji was a lot less annoying, but it only showed Asuka for about five minutes and the big hipped Evas still annoy me

Are you talking about the first or second film? Asuka doesn't really make an appearance in the first film, the second one is when she does. I'm pretty sure she only shows up at the very end of the first film, for the preview of the second movie. She's still pretty much the same as she was in the original anime though (minus being obsessed with Kaji.), and appears pretty much during the entirety of 2.0. I agree, Shinji isn't a complete wimp in these, which I really enjoyed.

What annoys you about the Eva's though? They're so kick ass!

2.0. Asuka gets a lot less screen time, especially compared to Rei and even the new Mari. She was there, but it felt like she was made a minor character IMO

But the ending was really good, the cliffhanger ending made me angry that we're going to have to wait years to see 3.0.

I like the monster looking Evas with the pillar shoulders from the TV show better though

Hmm, I don't get that feeling at all about less screen time and whatnot. :( I thought she had just enough. More of her is always welcomed of course, but apart from that I thought she had just enough screen time. :P

Totally agree about the cliffhanger. Then again, that's what they tend to do to you haha. I honestly thing the most we'll wait though is about a year, for the Japanese version that is (especially if that speculation about the Newtype interview ends up being true.) Finally, two years at most for an English dub, which is what I tend to get lol.

And I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the pillar shoulder thing. :(

    Spoiler:

    Those

I guess they just look more pronounced in the TV version since the upper body is the only wide area for the Evas.

Oh gotcha. Looking at some old artwork and comparing that to the newer design, they do seem a bit shorter.

That's interesting, I honestly didn't notice one bit. I think the shorter looks just as good though.

I'm pretty sure they're called fins.

Also, I like the movies. They're a lot better than the show from the two movies I've seen. Shinji not being a complete wuss already makes it better than the show.

Doesn't hurt that it's pretty too.

Definitely. The animation is spectacular, it's all so clean and smooth. The action scenes are fantastic and always leave me in awe! They've really done an amazing job remaking these. I'm dying to get even a sneak peak at the next installment.

    It's been a really long time since I watched the other movies but I remember seeing the second one and just kinda going "oooookay" because the plot was heading even more out there than the series. o_O;

But I'm still waiting impatiently for the third. The animation is superb and I immensely prefer the condensed plot of the first movie to the original show. It's just the second where I seem to remember scratching my head and being rather confused and weirded out, haha.

Totally understandable haha. They'd said before the release of the films that it would, for the most part, follow the same story as the series but that they would rework and add some things. So I was expecting small to large differences from the moment the story started and whatnot.

Though, I hope the plot differences didn't take away from you enjoying the movie. :( It really is just as fantastic and even unbelievable as it was in the original series! Just a tad easier to... digest? haha. :P

    I watched 2.22 in theatres.

Personally, I found that the second movie might be a little confusing if you hadn't already seen the show. I didn't even get the ending of 2.22 that much. I had to piece together some logical guesses. :U

    It was still awesome. n_n

I understood the ending, though it definitely caught me off-guard. After they say that the Third Impact has begun, I was like " WAIT! WHAT?!?! ALREADY!?" haha, way too soon for that! Good thing it's put to a stop (if you watch after the credits!) Don't want to ruin it for anyone. :P You get a brief view of the new Model #6 Eva. :D :D
