(Arrgh. My threads asking for help never blend in with the other ones.)
So my computer started dying a few months ago. I figured it might be a problem with the hard drive, so I grabbed my old 320GB external hard drive that I'd never used and reïnstalled Ubuntu (my vastly preferred OS) onto it, and it seemed to work fine for a few weeks. Today I noticed that my computer is evidently slowly, slowly dying in much the same fashion as my DSi (crashing upon just the right amount of impact at just the right spot - easier than one would expect). It's too hard for me to buy new components and take my computer apart to replace them, and either way I come upon the problem which I now discuss: the fact that no one ships anywhere near where I live.
Specifically, I live in Alaska. It's quite frankly the best place in the world to live IMO (great politics, cheap travel and last but not least, no snakes!), but mail-ordering and online shopping is a real pain in the butt because none of the chains, only individuals, will ship here. Not Amazon, not Best Buy; heck, not even Walmart. The latter two even have multiple outlets up here, but they won't ship ordered stuff to their own stores for pickup. It's quite annoying.
I figured I'd have to do it eventually, and here I am now: I'm seeking someone in the States who can pick up an item or two that I order and reroute it to me via USPS. I know what you're thinking. "This is the stupidest thing a man can do", "that's too dangerous", etc. etc. It's also one of the bold things a man can do in desperation, and if need be I have LifeLock Ultimate, a way to contact law enforcement, and the knowledge to pay attention in case of an SSL drop. The "dangerous" reason was also part of why I put it in the VIP forum: I will likely be a lot more able to trust a PC supporter than a random new guy I find elsewhere on PC.
If you can help with this, please reply to this thread and we'll work stuff out either via PM or email. Thanks.
UPDATE: Also having a similar problem with people not only failing to ship to my location but also not shipping to PO boxes, my only possible method of mail.
