4th Gen Red.

Just because he is a man from KANTO doesn't mean the man couldn't have traveled abroad at any point in time.

But, I wouldn't mind perhaps two battles with Red. The first battle would be with his classic team, and later perhaps with a more national team.

Two battles? No the whole point was that he had one battle, it was eerie and awesome with that crazy 8-bit battle them. He wouldn't be taken seriously if he had more than one battle, plus he was strong enough he doesn't need to have level 90's to be badass.

They will make him look very similar I think, however with the graphics being a lot better I would assume there will be some differences. I would like to see the same pose though, very mysterious looking of a very good trainer.

I agree. He shouldn't have no 3rd or 4th generation pokemon. This guy was the original Pokemon Trainer from Kanto. There is no reason for him to have those pokemon since he is basically the icon of those games. If he used 3rd and/or 4th generation pokemon then that would tarnish his look. Red was based on the anime character Ash with influences from the manga character Red (really I am not sure but it seem possible or maybe I have it switched wrong) which is why most of his pokemon were from Kanto since those were pokemon he used. I have no idea why they gave him an Espeon but still the pokemon he used were to represent the homeland that he came from.

Think of it like this. If they made sequels to the DPP games and you get to battle Diamond or Platinum then would you want them to use just 1st and 2nd generation pokemon. Of course not. It wouldn't make sense if they did use them. They should be using 4th generation pokemon. The same for Red.

Still I wouldn't mind battling the guy more then once. It be great training but it is ok if I battle him once and only once.

Very good trainer or deranged mute? ;)

That's the magic of Red. He doesn't need to say anything. If he did, they might make him sound lame. Him saying .... is part of what makes this battle against him so freaking awesome!

I'd imagine they'd use the sprite from FR/LG. That's the most updated one they have, so it'd be the easiest one to use.

Either that, or a team of super-leveled cave Pokemon from his self-imposed exile at the bottom of Mt. Silver's caverns. :D

LOLworthy. I'd love to see Red with a team of super-leveled cave Pokemon.

I think I they would use his FRLG design since that is the most up to date one they have of him. I don't see too much change in his design except it will be cleaner because of the DS graphics.

The only thing I am worry about concerning Red is that they will shadow out his face like they did for GS or would they make it where his face is seeable. That what made him cool when you battle him back in GS. It made him intimidating if you ask me. Going though a long cave and in the end find a mysterious character who just puts you though one of the toughest battles in the franchise. The shadowed up face just made him look tougher.
Not necessarily. The sprite in G/S/C of Red was the same sprite that was used for Red in Pokemon Yellow. So in my opinion they didn't really try to conceal his face.

I personally think red should be renamed to ash, and that his sprite should look similar to the older anime ash! being that Red=Ash, this should work.

Red can keep his Pikachu, but we don't need the anime exerting too much influence on this game...

I hope for a similar to Fire Red/Leaf Green sprite. But I'd like to see him change a bit considering Heart Gold/Soul Silver take place years after Fire Red/Leaf Green.

I want him to look good. That's all. Whatever changes they make, it should make him look awesome. One more thing: He should have a good pose!;) His AI should be the highest. And about his pokemon: Levels should really rise.

What i want to know, is Red's name staying as "Red", or 'FireRed"
He will stay as red lol XD.

Since Pokemon are now following you around, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case - Red with a Pikachu by his side ^^

Even if it's a minor change such as opening the jacket for the FrLg trainer, it's fine. I just hope his Pokemon are stronger and at higher levels than Barry's.

I agree with this 100%. Annoyed me no end that his party reached higher levels than Red's did. Red symbolises the series for me, and to have him 2nd best takes away the epicness of the battle.

I hope they employ a similar system in these games as they did in FR/LG, and have a sort of R2 mode, where the Elite Four's Pokémon get higher levels after defeating them once and a certain task is completed (i.e Ruby/Sapphire plates in FR/LG). In teh first battle, his Pokémon have the same levels as they did in the originals, and in R2 they are all 10 levels higher.

That's very likely! I can see it as well. Gamefreak would be fools not to utilize that Following system on Red.

As for his sprite design, I wouldn't mind a little upgrade from his FR/LG one. Like someone else said, it would only make sense for him to look pretty much the same as in the previous remakes.

Don't you think 10 is a little too low? I'm thinking more like twenty (putting their pokemon in the range of lvl.60-70). Of course, you have to beat the eight Kanto gym leaders before rematching them, and only after beating the E4 again can you face Red (team upped in level such that his signature Pikachu is lvl.91)

Nope, game Red was first. Ash and manga Red and all other variations came after, but the Red in the game was the original.

As for why he has an Espeon, look at it this way: all his members were one-time events in Yellow (well, you could get Snorlax twice, but whatever). Since Electric, Water, and Fire were already covered in his team, it wouldn't make sense to have Flareon/Jolteon/Vaporeon in his team, and I guess they just chose Espeon over Umbreon.

I figure Red will be in his FRLG incarnation, maybe in the original pose for nostalgia's sake, and his team will be the same, just with higher levels. I think the Platinum rival's team was just a way of saying "hey, see what we're doing here? Yeah, wait until you see what we're doing next." Of course Red is going to once again be the most powerful challenger. Why wouldn't he be?

I liked Red's FRLG sprite but I think that some changes may be made in his sprite to make him look better. I personally think that there is room for improvement.
