Remake, or Sequel?

Suppose that a certain video game that you enjoy finishing can be eligible to get a total remake. For example, the Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker is getting a HD remake on the Nintendo Wii U. Or, let's say that it might get a sequel, like how Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World was a sequel to the original Tales of Symphonia.

Just thinking about this, do you prefer if video games recieved a total remake from the original, or do you prefer if they have a sequel to the other? Why do you prefer one other the other, or, does it solely matter on the video game itself?

Feel free to share any thoughts!

It solely matters on the game itstelf.
For example i want an emerald 3D remake not an Emerald 2 because i think the story is perfect as it is now.
A sequel is essential when there are blanks about the characters. What happened to them, where did they go?

I love a good Sequel, a new storyline but hints of the previous, new characters to intervene with and new, exquisite features. But I also like a remake which adds new interfaces etc., so to be honest, it just depends on what the game is. say, if you said Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky - I'd say sequel. But Mario Kart (Wii), remake. It solely depends on what the game is.

Neither, to be honest. I have the least objection against straight up ports. They aren't a needless sequel, and don't mess with the original game. The only time a remake is needed is if the original game is buggy beyond repair.

Besides, some remakes come out worse for wear. You'll definitely find cases of this for Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land compared to Kirby's Adventure, screen real estate and action lag being just two of the offenders.

I also don't mind remakes if they mask them into looking like a port. Insert Taxman's Sonic 1 and CD here.
