Hi, new poster here.
Made an account to discuss this topic (I have no friends to talk to).
I was thinking about the latest games Sun and Moon and their respective region Alola. After beating Sun a while back in November, I thought about how good the region and its story was in comparison to older regions especially the ones that most people tend to dislike outside of nostalgia (Kanto/Johto).
That's why remakes are out of the question for most, and I agree that remakes would not be good as the old regions are outdated to a lot of the younger generations. But why do we have to make a new region with a new set of Pokemon or remake old ones with new mechanics/updated graphics? We already have established regions, so what's wrong with revisiting them outside of remakes?
This sounds dumb probably but by using old regions in new ways, its a way of returning in a new interesting manner not solely on nostalgia. FRLG/HGSS/ORAS all were the new regions with new graphics but they were the essentially the same as before. GameFreak could make a game about a old region, but expand on it with new lore, new characters, new plot, new areas and even new Pokemon. Kind of like Black 2/White 2 except there it would be way more expanded on. It could potentially make old regions like Johto or Kanto as colorful and unique as the Alola region. It's just a idea though.
This is also why I don't want a Sinnoh remake, the region would be overshadowed by Alola even if it's updated. Remakes aren't helping old regions, it relies too heavily on nostalgia. Also I chose the 2nd gen section because I love GSC, and the topic especially applies to Johto (in my opinion is the least developed region of them all and got overshadowed by newer refined ones and Kanto, the remakes did little to help it.)
