So this is a thread dedicate to discussing a legitimate remake of Gen 1 RBGY.

But let's just be clear, recently it has been evidently clear, we're talking about remakes, not reboots. If you do not care for a proper remake, you don't have to be part of the discussion. If you want to talk about a reboot, this is not the place.

Spoiler: What makes a remake, and not a reboot
The goal of a remake is to introduce the original game with just a few updated things and some slight expansion as an additional bonus all while still keeping it to the original feel. What makes a Pokemon game is heavily dependent on gameplay just as much as story.

For Pokemon, adding new game-changing feature such as mega-evolution, makes things harder to be considered a "remake". it makes it more of a reboot (a re-imagined game that changes more than it keeps true) because those features completely shifts the game. Game such as Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby.

Here is what i would like a remake to have:

    expansion on legendary pokemon:

    1) Expanding Legendary Pokemon story: Arcticuno, Zapdos, Moltres, have always intrigued me. But unfortunately, they have no story whatsoever. Some side story would be nice to expand on them. to me, the three legendary birds seem more related to Lugia/Ho-Oh. so i believe they should be hinted that they have some connection to them.

As for Mew, it would be great to see more plot related to it and Mewtwo as well. something not based on the anime of course.

    2) Yellow features but revised to fit into RGB remake: Yellow introduced some nice features, but it would be nice to see some of the features reworked and designed for RGB. for example, instead of Pikachu as a starter, you would be able to have Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. Minigames such as Pikachu surfing can be just a sufing game. OR make specific minigames based on the starters aswell, and leaving PIkachu surfing to just PIkachu.

    3) Settings/Options for Nostalgia/Retro: This is something that i believe will change the way some Pokemon fans will look into remakes. When Halo: Anniversary edition was released, they gave it the option to use the original graphics or the new ones. Now i'm not saying we should switch form 3D-render to 8-bit with a touch of a button. but the color pallet can definitely be done. I was thinking switching from Red/Green/Blue (Grayscale), Yellow (partial color where the coloring changes going town to town), or Default (standard modern coloring). Gamewise, it would be nice to see if you can turn on the original aspects, such as moving "special attack/defense" back to just "Special". (for those who want to want to experience that)

If people really want to change clothing of Red and Leaf, then i would hope it would be limiting to just the iconic clothing we've seen before. In Dissidia: Final Fantasy the playable characters were able to switch between multiple costumes, some based on in-game render, other based on concept artwork. Fans greatly appreciated the outfits. It can defintiely work for Red who has had multiple varying designs and same for Leaf.

And one last final option to keeping it retro is having fake "glitches", including MissingNo. who can affect many things in the game. Perhaps give it no defined form as it constantly changes, and make its attacks look "glitchy". But obviously completely optional (with no story whatsoever).

OVERALL IDEA OF MY IDEAL REMAKE: i believe the ideal remake is one that celebrates all the quirks of the original, while at the same time expanding and fixing some of the issues that made it difficult to appreciate at the time. I believe i covered most of them.

Heck yes! Looks like pretty good ideas and thus it will never happen. Just think how switching off the atk/sp.atk split would mess up online battles now. With the retro graphics, I think there should be a retro music option too and have the 2 choices seperate so you can choose to use just one or both. Or it could be like a battle simulator minigame thats in 8bit like in the anime. Another thing that would be good is if your starter followed you around maybe.

That's true, unless the option was available.

i completely forgot about the music, yes it would be very good to keep the original 8bit sound as well.

That's a good idea as well. i thought i implied it in the second option.

    EDIT:

Another option i think would be great is if the bar depletion would take its time as it did back in RGBY time. I know people complained about it back when they first played first gen, but after playing Gen 3, the bar goes down way too quick, doesn't give me that suspense. i would like that to return.
