Here is where you can discuss Cinnabar Island riddles wrapped within enigmas in "Riddle Me This."

    My review to come forthwith.

I thought this was an excellent episode showcasing more of Misty's intelligence. Honestly, she got 3/5ths of the riddles right, maybe even 4/5ths right. I'm a bit surprised that Brock didn't even get one right, seeing how Brock's supposed to be the smart one of the group. Then again, he's the same guy who falls for Team Rocket's disguises even when it's absolutely evident that they are Team Rocket [eg, their disguises in Dawn of a new Era], and at one point even believed James's evident white lie about freezing to death in front of a church [if he was dead, he wouldn't even recount his experiences.].

Anyways, Misty still seemed to be wearing a towel even when she is actually in the bath. Most times, someone in the baths wouldn't even wear one if he/she was in it.

Ironically, a fake DP title/scan hinted that there was going to be hardcore nudity involving a Hot Spring. Apparantly a title called "I got a Ribbon in a Hot Spring Battle". While it's a good thing the title is fake, I still fear that such an episode will end up becoming an inevitability. Going by some of the increased risque factors in later episodes, it won't be unreasonable for the writers to consider doing such an episode someday.

    Well, good episode nonetheless.

The episodes around cinnabar are definitely my favorites. Magmar vs. Charizard is also my favorite battle. If I'm not mistaken this is the episode directly before that however... The riddle concept seemed a little stupid to me when I was a kid, but it really is pretty cool.

Indeed, but that's why we had Misty to see through the brittle, tissue paper lies. Heh. As for the eventual risque ness, I'm not sure. Yes, they have pushed things, recently, but there is a line. Especially, as the international fanbase wouldn't stand for it, and rightfully so.

I enjoyed the episode, as we finally got to Cinnabar after all the endless filler. And Blaine proved to be interesting, as he chose to disguise himself and his identity (vs. the previous Gym Leaders, Misty notwithstanding). Although, once he ditched the disguise, all bets were off.

I'll say this, since this episode was the only one that featured Cinnabar itself: a pity we couldn't do the labs and the Fossil revitalization. If I recall correctly, they converted the labs into tourist traps. Interesting, but also a pity, as a reborn Fossil would be one heck of a tourist trap. That always bugged me.

It was sort of random and wierd..I hate Blaine!!!

Yeah, at least SHE actually proved her intelligence. I don't really know why Brock was even stuck with the reputation of being the smartest member of the group in the first place, considering how he didn't figure out a way out of half of the team's Troubles, he didn't even see through most of the disguises (even the first time he ever saw through a disguise [Fire and Ice], he didn't even know it was Team Rocket underneath, and seemed to be saving face afterwards.), and in the case of Holy Matrimony, he believed what should have been a white lie made by James [Brock, if James truly froze to death in front of a church as a kid, don't you think that he WOULDN'T be telling said story?].

Also, seeing how the writers pretty much got away with that whole striptease issue in Brave the Wave (you know, May taking off her clothes in front of company, and Max telling her not to do that [his reaction heavily implied that she actually stripped and put on the bathing suit after taking her clothes off, not merely had a bathing suit underneath her clothes.].). Plus, going by their trying to go for implied nudity from Jessie and Giovanni in Hot Springing a Leak [with Giovanni, they were too close for comfort.], I doubt that they won't go that far someday. I mean, if the international fanbase objected, don't you think those two episodes would have been banned outside of Japan?

Yep, to be honest, I thought the way the writers incorporated both Sugimori designs into his character was quite clever.

Well, to be fair, they at least showed the interior of the Pokemon Lab when Team Rocket attacked, so it isn't a total loss.

I have to re-watch those episodes you cited, before I can assess, either way. I think it's slightly possible, given how things can explode at a drop of a hat. I mean, who knew people thought Jynx was racist until that Weatherford essay, a year after Jynx's American debut? With Dawn's short skirt and the producers' attitude toward her, I'm not going to say your contention is not plausible.

And, you got me there. However, the Fossil fan in me, at the time, was saddened. Heh.

This is one of the good Kanto episodes. At least Ash fights Blaine instead just recieving the badge as a present, lol.

    Charizard, ftw.

That's true. Misty did help out.

Anime in Japan tends to be a bit more adult. What May did is nothing at all. Even Bleach's fanservice is nothing at all compared to some anime/manga.
