In most cases, we have only one rival in Pokemon games accompanying us throughout parts of journey. However, in X and Y, there were a lot more rival characters than that. What are our thoughts on the amount? Which rival in particular would we call our favorite? If we were to change anything about any of them, what would it be?

The opposite-gender character who actually wanted to be your rival was excellent, and I liked Trevor, who wanted to complete the Pokedex like I did (he must've known Sycamore would give him the Oval/Shiny Charm when he finished it).

Tierno, the dude who liked dancing Pokemon, was OK, but kinda pointless. Shauna is my least favorite in-game rival in the entire game series. Why was she even on a Pokemon journey at all? She didn't seem to have any real reason to go on one, unlike the other Kalos rivals.

I liked the amount of Rivals/Friends we got this time, hopefully we'll see a lot like that with Sun & Moon (which appears to be the case!). ^^ Trevor was my personal favorite as well, and my least favorite was Shauna.. I really tried to like her but I just couldn't. ;_;' She lagged you down towards the end of the game (when, I note, the world was in danger thanks to the ultimate weapon) and for her journey all-around she really didn't appear to have as much motivation as the rest (Tierno kinda didn't either, besides finding more Pokémon to dance..).

In my opinion, Tierno, Trevor and Shauna all play a part, be it big or small, in your adventure in X and Y. For Tierno, he loves dancing and Pokémon that learns and dancing related moves (Swords Dance, Petal Dance). Remember his Corphish back at Route 5 and 7 that learns Swords Dance and he had Roserade that learns Petal Dance and two other Pokémon at Route 19. Trevor is a really nice boy and he seems rather knowledgeable about Pokémon and he always compares the Pokédex with the player and eventually battling you in Route 7 and Route 19 and he has a pretty neat team, consisting of Raichu, Aerodactyl and Florges. For Shauna, I felt that she was more like a little sister whom just likes to go on adventures with her friends and just take joy in every little thing she finds cute and I like how she will give you her starter Pokémon after you beat the game. Not to take note that they are all kids.
