I've reached the ending of the R/S arc and I couldn't help but shed a tear at Ruby's realization and pleads of Mimi's true beauty. Quoting my new favorite character: "Although this body may rot and decay, its heart will be eternally beautiful. Pokemon Feebas, I introduce, Mimi!" He really grows up and becomes a genuine and good-natured character.

When I first read the manga I rolled my eyes at the parts concerning Ruby, but he truly grows up through out the R/S arc. In the begining, Ruby's an arrogant, self-centered pretty boy who doesn't care about anyone but himself or his Pokemon. As he progresses on his journey, however, he opens up to others needs, like Wally and Sapphire, and aids them and ultimately becomes a purely awsome Trainer. At the end of the arc, I cried. I couldn't help it, the guy said the most sweet and sincere thing ever about his Feebas which he earlier scolded and caused to run away. I've never had such a deep connection to a manga character, not a single one of the other Dex Holders, but Ruby is an awsome Trainer in my eyes now.

What're your thoughts on the hot-blooded Contest Master, Ruby?

I wholeheartedly agree with you! Ruby is my favorite character of all time, and I try to live my daily life using the lessons I learned from him. Im so glad someone else has such a deep appreciation for him! lol
I dont think I cried, but I was deeply moved! :)

I also loved how he and Sapphire both broke the mold of stereotypical characters, him being slightly girly and obsessed with contests, and her being a wild tomboy and skilled at Battling. Way different than May/Haruka from the Anime. ^_^

Of course, the fact that Ruby is such a powerful battler is also something to be admired. =)

He is definitely more mature and it can be noticed later in the series.
I hope he comes back into the story soon somehow!

I didn't think much of Ruby at first since he seemed so lame but as the story progresses and more is known about his true personality he seemed like a cool guy. He also matures a lot over his journey.

I have no problems with Ruby maturing, but I hated it when Ruby matures, Sapphire becomes immature.
