Running from trainer battles

How many of you have been annoyed, frustrated, or discouraged by the fact that you cannot run from NPC trainer battles-even in Black and White (after about 20 years of development!) What is your reasoning for such a rule? (e.g., limitations of the game engine, liability issues, a way to save your money so that it doesn't get cut in half except if all your Pokémon are defeated?)

It's no secret that Pokémon isn't exactly known for reasonable logic, but personally, this has never been an issue for me.

The Pokemon world is heavily based on Japan culturally. If you ran from a trainer battle, your opponent will call you out for your lack of honor, prompting the player to commit seppukku or something. Not very kid-friendly is it? XD

Well, considering Pokemon battles are pretty much a sort of sport, running would be equivalent to forfeiting the match (an option you have in WiFi and Subway battles). I guess I don't see a problem with the option of forfeiting in-game; it seems realistic, but then again trainers are the main obstacle in the game. If you forfeit, you lose, and if you lose you've gotta battle the same trainer again and win if you want to get past him. In that respect, running from trainer battles would be kind of impractical. You'd just lose half your money and have to come back later anyways. If it wasn't a forfeiting situation and you just kinda ran off without any penalty, that'd be pretty game-breaking. Really you could just run through the game effortlessly! And where's the fun in that?

Basically you fight to win, to run from a battle defeats the whole purpose of the game, you have to battle for it to be pokemon. I have played with a run from trainers code, it is not as fun anyways.

I agree with Crazyme, even if pokemon is about catching them all, the real point is to battle. So i guess its more to help you proceed and excel at the game. Plus if you could run from every trainer besides gym leaders and other bosses...it wouldn't really be too much fun haha

Many of my friends like avoiding other trainers and sneaking past them, but I enjoyed battling w/ my Pokemon, although sometimes it gets quite frustrating, like team rocket in HGSS.

Also, w/o battling, where r u gonna get the extra experience points? I hate battling wild Pokemon, so I prefer just battling trainers.

Well, if you were able to run from all battles, how would you train? I think it would be dumb to be able to run from battles.

I don't think the development time has anything to do with it. It's just a staple of the game, that's probably why they don't change it. I think part of it is just your silent protagonist's natural personality; they're a fighter that wants to be the strongest, so of course they would take on any challenge presented to them. At the same time, being able to flee from Trainer battles would make caves and routes just....dumb, lol. No challenge.

A lot of younger people (and a lot of older people I assume) don't really like battling trainers just out of impatience. So I guess If you could run from every battle, a lot of people would just skip along, and end up very under leveled later on.
