    Pokemon: Sandfall Edition (desert story)

ignore the "serenade"- I took over the project from a friend

Some say that it's better to have loved and lost than to never have loved at all. They're right.

    Backstory
If you've lived in Scarabia your whole life, as I have, then you know about the monumental changes that came about four years ago. Before then, the government was terrible, cruel. Corrupt. The government enjoyed hunting down people it branded "exiles". Blaming the problems of society on them, publicly ridiculing and mocking them, capturing and torturing them, slaughtering them.

The worst part is that most exiles had done no wrong to earn the status. If one man commited a crime against the government, he would be branded as an exile. All the male members of his family would be branded and exiled as well. Don't ask me why- but it's been that way for hundreds of years.

    Until four years ago.

A man named Cross, an exile himself for being the son of an exile, rose to stand against the government. He was more than an upstart, though. He came at the right time, during a depression when the government was weak. He was smart, charismatic, handsome. He won over the people, despite being an exile. He wed the daughter of a noble, a girl named Cheres who fled her house in fear of an arranged marriage. Cross and Cheres led the revolution on the corrupt regime, leading and army of exiles. They shouldn't have won; they couldn't have won- but luck was on their side.

Cheres became the Guide of Scarabia, aboloshing titles of noblity. Cross took his place by her side as the Representative of Scarabia. In the past four years, the two have turned the entire empire around.

But, of course, the impact of the old government is not easily forgotten.

I loved a man named Ismael, and he loved me too. His eyes reminded me of the Crystal City from the legends-deep, mysterious, beautiful. I promised him that I would take him as my husband. We had known each other for one year, and had grown closer than any others ever have or ever would.

But he was an exile, because his uncle had stolen a banana from a government food stand. The old regime took pleasure in hunting us down. I did everything I could to hide Ismael, but it wasn't enough. They stole him from me, and they took him out into the desert, where they-they executed him.

I was never able to fulfill my promise to him.

I voewd revenge on the government, and I got it. I joined Cross, and I personally led a large group of exiles in the march on the then-capitol city, Caste. We were victorious, and I felt that I had avenged Ismael, at least to a degree.

    But my heart remains empty.

Now I have returned to seeking a legendary treasure, a city made of crystal. It is said to be somewhere out there, in the vast sea of desert. A personal quest of mine, to hunt for a city that many have claimed no longer exists. The wealth means nothing to me. The potential fame and glory- nice, but not my goal. I search for the city to seek its beauty, to look into the endless crystal and see unfathomed beauty. Beauty that I have not seen since Ismael was taken from this world.

I have vowed to find that city or perish trying.

As I get closer and closer to finding the city, I find that the old government has not been completely destroyed. Remnants of the old regime, unhappy, arrogant nobles and war generals have created a small group planning to overtake the country once again. I get caught up in battles with the dangerous group, and in avenging the death of Ismale a second time, I will find that I am the only one who will be able to stop them.

Soon it becomes a race for the Crystal City. A race between me and the old government, and one that will determine the future of Scarabia.

    Weapons System
I am what many would call a gunslinger. I take my own weapons into the pit fights, relying on my marksmanship and skill with the revolver. Many call me the best with a gun, and I am inclined to agree with them.

Throughout my battles, though, I must keep a constant eye on my ammunition. I keep reserves of bullets in my pack, but I must reload in battle. If I do not have bullets with me, I must run if I can. Reloading in battle is vital, as is collecting enough extra ammunition to keep in my pack.

There are various weapons available to me, from six-round revolvers to nine-round revolvers, to semi-automatic pistols to the monstrous gatling gun. Scarabia's technology is largely focused on firearms and weaponry, one fascination of the old regime's that I must admit that I share.

    Wish me luck.

    Serren Kraye
This is me. You've probably gathered a lot about me already. Before you get to know me, I'll seem to be the silent type. But that's because I rarely pay much attention to things going on around me. I'm incredibly cocky, I'll admit it, but I have good reason to be- I'm the best gunslinger this side of the Sandfall.

    Ismael Sturge
Ismael was murdered five years ago, almost a year to the day before Cross and Cheres defeated the old regime and took palace. He was an exile through family, and despite having done no wrong himself, was taken by the government's mercenaries and executed in the desert. I loved him deeply in the year I knew him before his execution, and since that day I have thought of not much but him. I have already avenged his death in the Cross and Cheres revolution, yet I long for him every day and night.

    Treshire
Treshire lives in the capitol city of Shaw, and he's a pretty mysterious fellow. He's one of the few people that I would call a friend, yet at the same time I wouldn't trust him unless I knew that he was making a profit. He's a greedy little guy, but is a source of all sorts of information. He claims to have seen the Crystal City before. I don't know if I believe him or not, but if anybody has, I would bet that it would be Treshire.

    Dune Knight
This is the beast who came into my hone five years ago, taking Ismael from my bed. He almost killed me that night as Ismael and I fought him. Many times I find myself wishing that he had. As far as I know, the Dune Knight has no loyalties but to himself and to gold, and will, like many others, serve the highest bidder without any care for morals. Rumor has it that he himself is an exile. If that were true, it would just go to show how corrupt the old government was. Hiring exiles to hunt exiles...

    Rone
Rone is the owner of the pits in Caste City. He's often done favors for me, allowing me to enter fights that have been booked and closed for days. He is a genuine businessman, and knows that when I come to town, the crowds gather to watch my gun in the pits. Outside entrants to pit fights are rare, especially under the new government when jobs are easier to attain, and Rone knows the value of my service. He is constantly pressuring me to settle in Caste and work to fight in his higher-level pits, promising a life of fame and wealth. But I can do no such thing.

    Ice
I do not know much about the young man who calls himself Ice. From what I have heard, he is the son of a former government noble, but his life has been reduced to hiding and leading a group of bandits who claim to represent the old government. People say that he might even rival me with a gun. But I don't believe them.

    Screen Shots

This is the title screen. Simple enough. Note the usage of the cursor script. The image doesn't give the full effect; the altered cursor sounds are important to my story.

This is a shot from the introduction. I'm narrating, and the scene in the back...in the background is Ismael's...execution.

    [PokeCommunity.com] Sandfall

The city of Caste. Formerly the capitol of Scarabia, which is now Shaw. I am talking to a construction worker, as the new government has issued lots of new construction throughout the empire.

Lucky find in this chest. 10 bullets could load my six-round Old Revolver almost twice.

    [PokeCommunity.com] Sandfall

I am in the desert, here. This area is familiar to me, and not far from Caste city. I am on my way back to Shaw.

    [PokeCommunity.com] Sandfall

Haha, my mistake. I went to reload my weapon, but it had a fresh round of bullets in it already.
In this shot, you can also see how I like to fight my battles. Notice how I prefer to fight alone?

Seems like non-pokemon games are non-cool, despite being original. Changed the title to gather some more attention.

    Edit:

****in' A. It doesn't really change the topic title, just the title of the first post. :(
