Sarcasm/Being Smart

It's a wonderful thing.
This forum seems to be full of people that love sarcasm or being a smart you know what, so let me ask, do you do it often or is it just on the internet.

I know HEAPS of people with confidence on forums to lash out with this "attitude", so to speak, but never do it in real life.

Thoughts people?

I'm a chronic smart*** in real life :P and I use sarcasm frequently, but I only use it in a funny sense not in an insulting way.

**I realize you didn't mention some of this stuff, but I thought I'd point it out anyway.

First to start off, as a generality, sarcasm may be difficult to determine on the internet (especially as a result of people from different countries), that being said, being smart and being sarcastic are two different things. One does not need to be smart to be sarcastic, and vice versa. If we wanted to compare the two however, then the whole internet is full of it.

It really is just part of what the internet is... Plus people can act differently online than in real life, simply because they are more or less anonymous, they aren't in front of people, they are free to be whoever they want to be.

It is much easier on the internet to write to someone saying "Haha you suck blah blah etc" than it would be to let's say counter the debate (as one of many examples) with actual facts, or things to further the argument...

Unfortunately there are not a lot of these people...

I quite like to be sarcastic irl, but not online. XD; I prefer to convey it using tone, and online, it's harder. :P

Actually, I'm more or less just as sarcastic and cynical in the real world as I am on the Internet. If anything, I'm a bit more cynical on PC if only as a means to help churn debate and discussion and add some humor to it. :P
