Save the dub? Here's what I say: KILL THE DUB!!!!

Omigosh.... the dub isn't really all that bad, atleast they didn't destroy the whole anime like other ones they totally dub. The 4kids dub is totally fine like except the "puns" they totally use as their titles.

Like second of all, it's not 4kids fault that the movie is not in widescreen, it's Miramax... Besides, Widescreen is totally needed on HDTV, and most TV screen are 4:3.

I'd rather have 4kids dubbing Pokemon instead having PUSA dubbing with the new voices. =p

I mostly agree of what you said, especially about the movie "pan and scan" format. And like most people stated, they want to keep the original dubbed voice actors because people are used to them. For me I don't mind the old or the new but hopefully PUSA will not make those horrible edits like 4Kids does.

LLL was making one important point: The movie is "edit" in it's format. The people who drew those "arts" work their butt off only to be "pan and scan" thus we're not seening the whole picture or what I and some videophile like to say "I like watching a movie in it's original format". One reason why Miramax or 4Kids (I believe is really them that decided on the movie format) made the video "pan and scan" so it looks like you're watching the episode that's aired on TV but LONGER... and/or kids don't like seeing black bars of a movie when watching on a 4:3 TV... pfft. Disney didn't have THAT problem! Hopefully PUSA will FIX this problem... please!

And the answer is quite simple: if you don't like the dub, then DON'T WATCH IT!! It's just that simple. Don't come here and start complaining about it.

Of course, now I must give you a warning: if I see you complaining about the PUSA dub when it begins and saying that you wish 4Kids was back, I will not hesitate to bring this thread back up and come after you for being a gigantic hypocrite.

I agree with many of the things you say. I won't deny it. I wish the Pokemon movies were in widescreen (I don't care if it's "pan and scan", people still get cut off =P, at the very least there should be a Widescreen option). I think the edits of riceballs and Japanese characters are stupid, unnecessary, and an insult to the culture that drew them. I wasn't impressed with the recent job that a few of the voice actors had been doing.

I also agree with others saying that 4Kids is not the worst anime editor. *thinks of dubbed CardCaptor Sakura* @_@ But that doesn't mean you still can't complain about it. The US does not have the most corrupt government out in the world, but that doesn't mean I can't complain and suggest and wish for something nicer. Okay, the analogy might deal with two very different things, but it made sense to me... ^^; I think that LLL might have gone a little overboard, but she says some valid things under all of that anger.

This is why I personally was so unsure when I heard that Pokemon USA was going to take over. On one hand I thought it was great, and yet there was always that voice in the back of my head reminding me that 4Kids wasn't really so bad. We'll see I guess. I do agree though, most are against the new voices and not the new dubbing company. I may have my complaints about the old voices, but the new ones destroyed my soul as well. Good thing I have a backup soul.

Hhhhmmm well despite the fact that I don't care to much about the anima (The games mostly full my love for the critters) I'll agree, the Dub isn't the best, but it isn't the worst either. They could keep this up, and I wouldn't really care, but if they made improvements, I may watch the show a bit more (I miss the WB a lot because I stay up late, and sleep in but meh) Personally never liked daubs censoring things, it should stay as it was in Japan, but that's what I think.

I don't think anyone is unhappy over the fact that 4kids aren't dubbing the next season. I think it's mainly because of the new voice actors. On the bright side, the actual releases from now on should be of better content.

Also - I share your hate for 4kids, what they have done and are still doing to One Piece is unforgiveable and a disgrace to one of the best anime series' ever.

Agreed in some points...It's true that they try to nerf it...I mean,what's the point of changing the sad music in Ash-Misty-Brock seperating scene into some kind of victory/relaxing music? When I watched the jap. version I felt sorry for Ash,but in the English version it looked so ridiculous that I had to laugh XD...

I think all those cut-offs and bans made Pokemon kinda childish...Remember the first Kanto episodes...

-A Charmander was found nearly dead...
-A Pokemart was robbed by Team Rocket with a RPG and Assult Rifle...
-They also placed a REAL BOMB at Celadon Gym.
-An army of Tentacool invaded and mainly destroyed Aupulco,because they were under death treat.
-Sunken Ss.Anne episode...An accident,fire in the ship,Team Rocket found nearly drowned...
-Sabrina episodes,that scary doll of hers...
-In the first ghost pokemon episodes,Ash and Pikachu died...At least close...
-The major or something was thinking about blowing up all the exeggcutors.
-Another major left his Bulbasaur at sewers to death,he attempted to close Ash,co. and Team Rocket into the sewers by blocking all the exits with concrete...
-The episode with ancient Pokemon (the battle of giant Gengar,Alakazam and Jigglypuff) had an interesting plot...

Doesn't all these sound better,more mature and exciting than chewing-gum cannons,all the same Johto fillers and Ash getting exrtemely happy when he blows off Team Rocket with thunderbolt?

well... dubs so far hasn't beaten the subs in many many anime that I know of.. but I don't think the Pokemon dub is that bad.. at the very least, I felt that the Digimon dubs I watched in my country were far worst than any other dubs.. even the cutest of the cutest sounded like some mature old man... those are the dubs that were really terribly done ><;; Pokemon is already very good enough

They just cut out completely scenes which are too 'inappropiate for children,' but which we see in any Disney movie that comes out! Like, in the scene where Pikachu falls off a cliff in the second Pokemon movie- THAT WAS CUT OUT! It's completely suitable for children and they cut it out! That scene wasn't in the original movie AT ALL. It's just one of those scenes that get featured in a trailer, but then are never in the actual Pokemon movie.

The dubbers completely massacre the movies. 10 minutes of footage from the fifth Pokemon movie was cut out, not mentioning the fact that they didn't include the short, which makes it 30 minutes that are cut out!! Have you seen some Disney cartoon movies? At least they know that kids have to learn about violence or peril sometime in their lives! 4kids is horrible!

Nice using a movie dub as an example that was done three years ago. The Advanced Generation movie dubs are excellent.

And the part I hate the most out of all......
The dubbers just HAD to release every single Pokemon movie on FULLSCREEN while they were originally in WIDESCREEN! That's cutting 1/3 of delicate, HAND-DRAWN artwork! And that's while everyone now is getting widescreen televisions, so those people (including me, and I bet, most of you) see only 2/3 of the artwork. THEY ARE SO STUPID!! Those artists took a lot to DRAW that art! It wasn't drafted with computers, it was drawn by hand!

...The Advanced movies are done with computer generated aniamtion, IIRC.

This is why 4kids is losing their money! They have dug themselves into the deepest pit imaginable. If they weren't such IDIOTS, this wouldn't have happened.The only reason you want to save the dub is because you are used to it. Get used to a new one. It'll probably be better. Better than 4kids, anyway, because it's hard to be worse than them.

Though it wasn't very calm, it was very content-filled and to-the-point. My comments are in bold blue.

Let me get this straight, in the most content, calm way:

Also, the dubbers want to Americanize everything in the show so that it would seem like a western cartoon, while it would cost less to just make their own western cartoon.
Perhaps if a "domestic" version was made in itself, viewers would probably complain about quality. (much like DiC's Mario, Sonic, and Legend of Zelda cartoons)

When it comes to releasing DVD movies full-screen only, perhaps it's because they thought children would be discouraged by the "black bars." (which I think is a rather stupid assertion anyway. Heck, as an example, Paramount released The Rugrats Movie in widescreen DVD.)

So, my conclusion is this: Get a better dubbing company for Pokemon, one which actually respects the hard work put into the show and movies and reflects just that, by dubbing and ONLY DUBBING, not changing things STUPIDLY for an American child audience, because some adults like me want to enjoy Pokemon too!

Maybe so, but society has become politically over-correct to "tolerate" such certain practices found in Japanese filmmaking and screenplay.
Please, 4kids, die......
