Intelligent doesn't mean competent. Anyways, James was rich he doesn't need intelligence and Jesse's massive hairdo actually runs on brain cells. Everyone knows Meowth is the mastermind of the group.

Yeah this is what i was thinking. They seem to just go out and learn for themselves.

I'm sorry, but there's no excuse for Ash.

...unless he turned stupid because of Pikachu zapping him. That doesn't explain his sudden smartness in Advance and just-as-sudden return to stoopid in DPPt.
