Second City Challenge

    The idea of this challenge is simple. Beat the game with only Pokemon caught before entering the second non-hometown city in the game for the first time. In Gen I and its remakes, that's Pewter City. In Gen II and its remakes, that's Violet City. In Gen III, that's Petalburg City. In Gen IV, Jubilife City.

    Alright, onto the rules.
    1. No trading, unless it's to evolve a Pokemon and immediately trade it back. This includes in-game trades, unless they occur before the second city.
    2. No hacking or cheating, unless it's to create an HM slave not used in battle.
    3. Emulators are allowed.
    4. HM slaves are allowed.
    5. Challenge ends upon beating the Elite Four.

    Yeah, I'll eventually do that accidentally on my own. I'm working on a speed run of Red and I'm only going to end up using Nidoran M and Squirtle. Go ahead and sign me up, maybe it will make me do it faster.
     
    I'll do this, sounds fun! I think I shall do it on... Red! What about Mr. Mime in Gen I? You get him before the city but after you leave.

    The rule is before the second city, not within it, so that trade can't occur, metscolts.
    Also, Saiddun, since you can't get there before reaching the second city for the first time, you can't do the trade. Although the point's moot in that case since you can't get an Abra pre-Pewter.
    Should I post a spoilered list of which Pokemon are available pre-second-city in the first post? I already have a semi-complete one for my own records, and I think that might help.

    Named myself Gladius and my rival Saddius.
    Got a Bulbasaur, named it Thesaurus.
    Lost to my rival in the lab battle.
    Delivered Oak's Parcel.
    Caught one of everything available (Pikachu, Caterpie, Weedle, Spearow, Nidoran f, Nidoran m, Rattata, Pidgey). Still deciding which will go on my team.
    Leveled up Thesaurus, the Caterpie (The Mighty) and the Nidoran m (Beeblebrox) a little.

    I just beat Brock and I have Squirtle, Butterfree, Rattata, Pidgey, Nidoran male, and Pikachu
     
    I'm training before I enter Mt. Moon. Brock was easy as cake.

    Yeah, in the originals, Gust and Karate Chop were Normal-type attacks. Doesn't make a lot of sense in hindsight.
    Also, I definitely forgot which levels gave which attacks in the originals. Will definitely have to grind more pre-Mount Moon.

    Okay, I made a lot of progress. To make a long story short, I'm in the entrance of dark Rock Tunnel. God bless the old games in which you don't need lousy Flash to get throgh dark places (you can see the walls and stairs).
