Alright so I've been on this forum for about a week. I hope this is the right place for this, anyways what is so great about shiny pokemon? I just don't see the big deal, aside from the fact that they look cool.

That's really all it is. The envy of other people, too I suppose. The chances of finding one are slim, sooo...

They don't (with the exception of a couple) actually look better than their normal colours, it's just that they're different and rare, so they're a collector's dream. If you look at a sprite sheet of only shiny Pokemon, it looks weird and discoloured.

Yea I mean Charizard looks pretty sweet and so do some of the Legendaries but there are others that are just like they're color has been diluted.

In my opinion, Shinies are really just for the brag factor to be honest.
There isn't really anything overly special with them other than they're rare to obtain.

I have shinies, and I really don't use them for anything. They're rare, and whether they look better or not is just a matter of personal opinion. Many do not look better than their normal counterparts, IMO. It would have been nice if there was actually some benefit to having them, but it's too much to ask of GameFreak...

People Just Like To Collect Them And They Usually Look Cooler Than There Orginal Sprites.
But To Be Honest To Me There Just The Same As Any Other Pokemon.
Just Because There Is Like A 1/1872 Chance Of Getting One Makes Them Rare I Suppose.

Anything that's rare and hard to get will automatically cause some people to go after them.

Though, in D/P/Pt there's the added draw of it the challenge of chaining with the Pokeradar--then it becomes a skill to get them, instead of just luck or cloning.

I agree with the above comments that they don't necessarily look better than the originals. Some do look awesome, for sure (and that's pretty subjective I'm sure) but lots of shinies don't look particularly exciting to me. Shiny Charizard? Spiffy. Shiny Mothim? Very pretty! Shiny Granbull? Meh.

I kinda like that they added the variety, but there's nothing inherently better.

Yeah, many of them look hideous. Like Weaville (one of my favourite Pokemon) for example. What were they thinking?!?!

But on the other side...... Zangoose, Seviper and Butterfree's Shiny versions are AMAZING :D

I was very tempted to restart my FR to try and get a shiny charmander, but I figured I'd rather play the game than listen to prof. oaks boring speech for like 6 hours. May as well try and breed for them, seems easier
