6th Gen Shiny Advice and Theory

You bring up a good point regarding finding the shinies... I've found a bunch in the friend safari and in a reasonable amount of time, but unlike you I haven't been catching things (instead one-hit killing everything) AND I have the battle sequences off. What I accomplish in a couple hours (the number of pokemon I run through) may be different from what you do as well.

I can't believe it.. this advice is golden! I killed everything and turned battle sequences off. Sure enough after 2hrs SHINY EEVEE! Thank you for the advice!

What's battle sequences and how do you turn it off

Settings (Bottom Right) -> Battle Effects Off. It doesn't increase your shiny rate, but I was able to a least go through more Pokemon in a limited time span. I also increased text speed. I'm not sure if this was luck, or killing actually is better than running away. Hence pokeradar killing.

spend hours in the safari and didn't find any shinies.

You also said that you found no shinies. It makes me wonder how much time you spent in the safari and if the safaris were FULLY registered. I'm just curious because most people I know who have spent adequate time (a couple hours) in the safari have at least one shiny to show.

But that's why I made this thread, to figure out the validity/disprove behind the theories and what else people have found. So hearing your perspective and those of others would be really interesting. =)

It also helps ease tension and anticipation imo if you go in with the intention of EV training pokemon rather than just looking for shinies. It makes time go by faster haha.

The thing I am most curious about is whether you have to be online or not. I've heard you only need to be online once at the same time as that friend, the same way you unlock Hidden Abilities in the Safari. I have also heard that both of you have to be online to get the increased Shiny rate.

This could be my problem as I've unlocked most friends Hidden Abilities by being online at the same time in the past but I don't have steady internet service which my explain my lack of Shinies in the Friend Safari. My only Shiny so far are from Breeding. So far nothing from chain fishing as I haven't really done it.

That actually isn't true. You only have to see that friend online one time (get their picture). Then offline or not, you have a chance for getting a HA on the pokemon. Tested & true. {:3}

Yes that's what I said buddy. :)

So if you and your friend are online then you have a better chance at finding a shiny in the friend safari?

We can't know for sure.

Personnally I've tried finding a shiny in the safari since yesterday night while following this rule, no shiny for me yet.

Chain fishing is much more reliable I think.

Congrats on your Eevee! =D

Well, I can't be certain how its influenced by whether or not you're online... but I know that when I found both, my shiny Zebstrika and my shiny Electrode (in the same safari about an hour apart), the person was not online (or I suppose I should say while I wasn't online). But I also found a number of shinies while the person may have been online... I wasn't really keeping track though.

Chain fishing is probably faster, but I also think that given the number and frequency of shinies found in the friend safari and with the relative ease of which they're found, it's pretty certain that at the very least they are more common in the friend safari than outside of the friend safari (excluding the use of chaining methods).

I can't really believe I've just been lucky 9 or 10 times with a 1/8000 ratio of finding shinies. Especially when so many other people are finding shinies as well.

Maybe if you're not finding shinies, stop focusing on doing such, EV train a few pokemon using different safaris or something like that. Hopefully something will pop up! Let me know. =]

By the way, I'm just going to list some of the things I've found. It might be helpful somehow, idk.

Kristin's Fighting Safari: 2 Shiny Pancham
Chang's Electric Safari: 1 Shiny Zebstrika, 1 Shiny Electrode
Pewsks' Normal Safari: 1 Shiny Ditto
StrikerS' Psychic Safari: 1 Shiny Sigilyph 2 Shiny Abra (only managed to catch one of the Abra's)
Armeliuz' Fire Safari: 1 Shiny Pyroar

I dont know if it helps but i scored a shiny Torchic using the breeding method. I stuck my event Blaziken in with a Japanese Ditto i got on the GTS and first egg they popped out was shiny. I've tried multiple times to get other shinys by using the breeding method and still nothing. After 30 some odd Ralts and multiple pain-staking Eevee's i have.only obtained the shiny Torchic
