Discuss what you think about Shiny Pokémon. Was it a good idea to put in Shiny Pokémon in GSC? Do you have any Shiny Pokémon? Have you encountered any Shiny Pokemon? Discuss all about them here.

I have caught: shiny meowth, hoothoot, ditto, magnemite, gyarados, tentacool, and a spearow.

I have seen these shiny pokemon and had no poke/great/ultra balls or another mistake: goldeen, and a grimer.

The only shiny I caught in GSC was the red gyarados in Gold.

I haven't encountered any Shiny Pokémon except the red Gyrados in Crystal.

it was definitely a good idea, considering that you can breed pokemon to get shinies, which is very useful to me (a breeder)

The Red Gyardos was the only shiny I got in Crystal. Shinies aren't anything special, just different and rare. They are as strong or as weak a non-shiny. I'm sure you knew that:).

I have a shiny Spinarak in Silver (and the Red Gyarados, of course) And I might have some others, I don't know, I didn't log it :P

Could it be that shinies were put in there to fill empty slots? So we wouldn't get the whole Missingno. glitch again? I'm not a programmer, so I'm just guessing from what I've read..

No, shinies are just when you get lucky and the game is programmed to sometimes give you an alternatively coloured Pokémon.

not necessarily "luck". you can greatly increase your odds through breeding, then it becomes a little more than luck. chance would be a better word. of course in the wild you only have a 1:8,192 chance to find a shiny. that would be something you could call luck.

It's still luck, even IF you increase the chances, as there is still a chance of not getting the Shiny.

Also, tge breeding means you actually have to already have a Shiny, so it doesn't help for people who haven't got a shiny yet.

i'll settle with the luck thing, but with breeding you don't have to have a shiny. the pokemon just has to have the defense/special genes of a shiny, and it can pass those down, possibly producing a shiny.

Haven't even seen a shiny other than the Gyrados in about 50 hours of Crystal. One day..

I really hope when I do find one, it's not a Swinub or Zubat or something.

By the way, do Pokemon only have one shiny color variation?

    yeah they do

I think shiny pokemon are over rated. I have found 3 shiny pokemon though. A bagon ,a Nicada, and A groudon(god I was lucky on this one) But i really don't look for them cuz i like my pokemon to look normal....as normal as they are XD

just wondering, If I breed say a male shiny with a female non-shiny of a different species do I still get the reduced odds?
