3rd Gen Shiny Pokemon Question

Lets say I catch 50 magikarp to try and find a shiny I then save and then shut off the system. I turn it back on and start fishing again will that log it in as 51? also for everyone pokemon of the same you find does that log it in as another one even though its not in the same spot? sorry im kinda confused how the ratio works. Can someone help me understand?

I think you're refering to the odds of catching a shiny. The odds are 1/8092 (ugh, now im second guessing myself). Each time you encounter a pokemon there is a 1/8092 chance that it will be shiny. If you encounter one, catch it, then go again and again, the odds are still 1/8092, every time you encounter a pokemon. You can find 5 shinys in a row (though incredibly unlikely) or you can find none like me... You always have the same chance at finding one, no matter if you've looked in that grass before, or if you caught 50 of the pokemon. Its always a 1/8092 chance... so good luck shiny hunting! =P

I think it would fit in Simple Questions thread or Ooo... Shiny thread. Anyways aren't the odds 1 in 8192? I donno but I know for sure it's 8_92.

You're best chance to catch a shiny, is go in grass as much as possible. It'd be pretty hard to catch a shiny by just going through the game instead of actually searching for one sometimes. At least you have some chance...

Thanks guys for the help. Ive been fishing in the same spot for days for a shiny magikarp, ive caught so many people in town now call me magikarp lol.
